Lots of space and love the breeze from the lake in the summer. Cute, small feeling neighborhood with friendly people. Continently located to Mariano's and Asia in Argyle. Very close to the redline, lakeshore drive, and the bus is right out front. I can make it to downtown on Lakeshore in 20 min max, and 10 minutes to Lakeview.

I have lived at 5040 for more than 10 years. I love it. The design of the building is such that every unit gets cross ventilation and light from more than one direction, so the apartments are bright and cool in the summer and toasty warm in the winter. The proximity to public transit is the best in the city; 147 Express, 146 Local and Red Line make it easy to live without a car. The park and the lake make the nieghborhood beautiful. Feels like living in NYC. My unit does not have pests of any kind.

The unit I rented was infested with mice, I was offered a cat or sticky traps. The previous sticky traps was how I found out about the mice before they started drowning in my dogs water bowl, the smell was horrible. The management would come into your unit without any notice and mess with your stuff saying it was an emergency. Got out of there as fast as I could. The condo was great, well lit, great area for me if I had only known about the mice and the breaking and entering I never would have wasted my time and alot of money!

Yes, the courtyard is amazing - until someone blasts their eclectic choice of music out their windows at 7am on a Saturday morning. Yes, the people who live in the apartment are a community - one which doesn't particularly like outsiders (read: renters). Yes, the apartments are spacious - the roaches, waterbugs and yellow beetles (which come out at Spring and stay until winter) like the space to spread out as well. The hallways smell like cabbage soup, and the elevators are great if you are daring - you take your life in your hands just stepping into one. The radiator heat is great, when the 50 year old water heater is working to capacity; you will probably walk around indoors in a winter coat. Lastly, maintenance is great - at not showing up. My kitchen pipes leaked for the entire two years I rented there. The place was a nightmare.

I lived at 5044 Marine Drive for just shy of three years. I loved it there. The staff, the management, the amazing courtyard---all of it was great. They are a social, community focused bunch. Living there was like a membership at a relaxed country club. The manager, Grace, she is the best---she keeps the ship running smoothly. Her crew---they must be retirees from one of those luxury ocean liners--they take care of business nicely and efficiently. I have never had one problem with the staff at all. The building has an art deco design, and it is cute as can be. They accept pets, and all were well behaved. A park is directly east of the building and it is (dare I say meticulously) maintained. Parking is a creature from the black lagoon. If you have a chance---move there---tell'em Sol from C-1 sent you. (No kickbacks, just good vibrations.)

I was an owner-resident at Marine Drive until very recently, and I miss it so much! It is a warm, low-key mix of seniors, immigrants, young professionals, families, singles and couples, gay and straight. There are monthly teas, occasional receptions and an annual concert in the lovely, landscaped courtyard.

The building manager is tough-but-fair, the engineers, guards cleaning staff are first-rate, and the Board is approachable and accessible. Parking's a bear, but the building has a cab-light, the el and several bus lines are right there, and there is an Enterprise Rent-a-Car two blocks away.
