The building manager is a horrible person who is blissfully ignorant of all of the violations within the building. She also just defers to the super who is a mansplaining fool It is not worth the rent, the amenities are falling apart, it smells like dog piss in the kitchen they rent out which you have to pass every morning on the way to the gym. The new handy men are incredibly unskilled and wind up further breaking most of the appliances that are broken. The elevator breaks every other day bc they used cheap parts when they built this building.

The building is nice, as are the amenities when you can actually use them but the management is awful. Here are some highlights: 1) Lived here for 3 years. Emailed management many times, almost never got a response without calling or visiting the office to follow up. Unless you’re a prospective tenant, renewing your lease, or trying to make a payment, they aren’t responsive. 2) Parking in front of the building was a disaster. It was a private street and supposed to be a loading zone. Instead, people figured out really quickly that management wouldn’t tow anyone and so they started parking anyplace that could fit a car. The building staff would take up many spots with their own cars. It made standing/loading/unloading extremely difficult and very unpleasant. When raised with management they mostly ignored the problem and blamed everyone but themselves with no accountability. Occasionally they’d send out a toothless email that everyone knew was just an empty threat. 3) You’ll spend ~$150 / month for the privilege of using the amenities only to find that they are frequently rented out so that Dermot can make more money and unavailable for your use. 4) Elevators were frequently out of service, which really stinks on the right side of the building where there are only 2. Be prepared for long waits to get to your apartment usually when you’re in a rush. 5) Similarly, the steam would frequently break resulting in no hot water for long periods of time. 6) Multiple appliances broke throughout my time there, sometimes it was weeks of waiting for parts / repair. 7) After turning everything off in the apartment, moving out and handing in my keys, the staff then ran up the electricity bill (I suspect while painting the apartment for the next tenant) and stuck me with the bill. I spent ~$150k in rent over the years but they still found a way to extract another few bucks out of me. If you’re moving out of a Dermot property, be sure to hand in your keys at the very last minute or they’ll do the same to you.

21 West End is a high rise "luxury building". At least it is trying to develop into one. As of five months of our occupancy there are many kinks that still need to be worked out. Air handling within the units is very bad. Some apartments are always hot, winter and especially summer. Air conditioning units are noisy as are other air handling units in the apartments. There is no doorman but a very sophisticated tv monitoring system "guards" the building. Unfortunately, you can typically walk by the front desk without being stopped and get right into the building. The staff is very nice and they try to help right away. The apartments are well equipped with high(er) end appliances and a small washer dryer unit that takes a very long time (hours) to do a small laundry basket. Overall it has been a very good experience but many things still need to be addressed. Some may never be able to be fixed.

21 West End is a gorgeous building with beautiful apartments and a lot of amenities. However, the amenities are not always open or even operating. For instance, the outdoor patio/bbq area has still yet to open and Management has not given any information as to when that will happen. The gym in the building is quite small and isn't cleaned well. The maintenance crew could do a better job in this area. All other amenities seem to be kept in great shape and cleaned well. Due to construction all around the area, all residents must walk towards the back of the building to use the shuttle that the building offers. Only issue is when the weather isn't great, walking around the block isn't fun or enjoyable. Most of the outside benches are occupied by construction workers either eating or smoking. The apartments are spacious and have great appliances that are easy to use. Bathrooms are done well with enough space and offer a lot of counter space as well as storage. The shower/tub combination is done well so you feel as if you have enough space. The bedrooms have great closet space for folding and hanging clothes. The apartments are done well that you don't hear your neighbors. I would say the best part of the building is the staff. Everyone from the leasing office, to the porters, doorman, maintenance crew are absolutely friendly and accommodating people. Lately the building has allowed 70 units to be occupied by Fordham students so the building now feels a little like a dorm. Hopefully this doesn't become a college dorm and lose its uniqueness.
