I lived here in 2011-2013. The building management is not trustworthy. I received the apartment in unclean condition. The toilet curtains were not changed and were left really dirty by prior tenant. The toilet and sink were not cleaned. However, I left the apartment in clean condition and had taken photographs. To my surprise the deposit amount returned was in half. When I requested Super of the inspection letter I found it quiet shocking as the letter was full of lies. I had to pursue this legally as I found the management was not interested in reviewing the photographs. I did receive everything in the end plus penalty. Highly dubious affair overall.

I was happy with the doormen and never had any issues. The building management is the worst. You can only talk to them by email. They completely ignore you if you have any issues with the apartment. The super doesn't fix the issues in timely manner (or doesn't fix at all). I had mice in my apartment. Please, make sure that you make a video / pictures when you move out as they take a part of your deposit without providing the evidence/ statement. Then they completely ignore you.

Difficult to get repairs and maintenance work done. I'm living without a functioning smoke detector, which is illegal. Two of the doormen are unpleasant and curmudgeonly. I *dread* interacting with them. One yelled at me on my move-in date because I asked for a copy of my mailbox and lobby door key. You need prior permission to bring small household items into your apartment. So if you decide, on a whim, to purchase a plastic storage container at Target like I did, you will be told that you can't bring it into your apartment without prior move-in permission. The overnight doorman is wonderful, though. The building manager is unreachable. Laundry room hours are inconvenient. Cheap, old fashioned fixtures throughout my unit and the hallway. Still the rent is lower compared to similar buildings in the neighborhood. It's noisy if your unit faces west 58th st (there is a fire station less than 2 blocks away). If these things are not an issue for you, do move in.

Central Park Muse is a great little building in a great location. If your apartment faces the street and on a lower floor, I have heard it is quite loud, and there currently is a building being constructed on the block. My apartment is on the other side of the building and it is very quiet. I live in a Jr. One Bedroom. I have never had an issue with the Super, he fixes things promptly, but I have only needed his help about 3 times in the last 2 years. The doormen are courteous, they get your packages, dry cleaning, etc. I have never had a roach or mouse in my apartment and they do fumigate. There are 5 washers and 6 dryers so you can do your laundry all in one sitting if you get lucky! The neighborhood is great. Safe because there is always people around even late at night. You are very close to Central Park and all areas of the city are not too far away! I have been very happy here.

This is a horrible building in a semi-horrible location. This is by far the noisiest street I have lived on in my 10 years in New York. There is constantly construction on the street with jackhammers, con edison, verizon, and general construction constantly disrupting the weekends (because the neighborhood is mostly corporate, be prepared for 8AM wakeup calls on Saturday by the jackhammers below). The building itself is one of the worst ever. Mice, rats, and roaches abound indoors at this apartment and exterminations do nothing but stir them up so you know they're there. The super and the staff who are pleasant enough on days when everything is running smoothly, usually forget how to speak english when something goes wrong and/or gets mad at the TENANT. The weekend doormen are worse than no security at all, stopping residents regularly because their airheadedness can't remember week to week who lives there, but they regularly wave delivery people through. There are two elevators that are out of service on at least a weekly basis. Usually not both at the same time, but sometimes. The management company is painful to deal with. The apartments are in average condition. THe hallways smell. The only redeeming characteristic to this building is that you are near many subways.
