I have live here for about 6 months now. The move in went smooth and fast as they have a loading dock and a freight elevator to use. After moving in to my 4th floor loft on the north side of the building I noticed that the construction across the street is loud and hard to live with. The construction starts just before 8am and goes all the way till 8 pm. This is at no fault to the mgmt company who does a great job at helping when they can. A few times the noise started well before 8am and after speaking to the office they called and had it stop. There's a door person on duty from 6pm till 6am each day and they are helpful. There's a good laundry room and exercise room. The penthouse and roof top deck are great. Parking can be hard and from what it looks like will get more difficult after the construction is complete. don't forget that this place is a loft and noise can be heard in the unit. Noise in the unit can loud if There's more the one person living there, as the bedroom wall is only a half wall. There's a quiet time of 10pm till 10am. The few times I needed something fixed in the loft they were fixed within 48 hrs. Sometimes less then 24 hrs. If you are planning on moving here make sure that you either don't mind the construction noise or ask for a unit away from it. Cars are broken in to nightly mine was broken in to 3 times.

The extras are pretty good in this Besidence but the apartments themselves are not that great. The walls are thin. The mgmt isn't the best or not even in the office. Cars are broken into almost nightly . I wouldn't move in if I were you.

I lived in a 1br, 1ba in River West Lofts for 3 years. Positives Units have new kitchens, carpeting, bathrooms Views are good from many units Quiet at night Affordable and good restaurants/bars nearby (sushi X, Thalia, DeLux) Exercise room is okay Maintenance guys are helpful and responsive Negatives Units are a little bit Eteep, esp given the current renting climate You can hear your neighbors at times

In summary: Pdeal for youth. Both of my neighbors smoke cigarettes and pot... As one reviewer stated, you can smell it strongly as if you were lighting up in your place. My husband and I have also been taken back by the noise level at incredibly late night hours - loud music, yelling, screaming, you name it. It's a nice place and mgmt is great, but we won't be staying for long.

I moved in August 2007. The apartment was decent. A one bedroom loft with 900 rsf and bay windows for $1380/month is good for the area. Not the best deal in town, but not bad. The walls are incredibly thin and I routinely heard my neighbor's awful music selections at 2 in the morning and could smell smoke and burnt food constantly. There's also a lot of crime in the neigborhood. 2-3 cars were routinely broken into a night around the neighborhood during a week. The roof deck is amazing and by far the best aspect of the building. The mgmt is terrible, but. Call to the office go ignored and follow up is almost unheard of. I had several issues regarding billing issues that were completely ignored, and instead of working to resove they charged late fees. I also had some bad service attempting to add an occupant. Despite filling out all the paperwork in person, and weekly follow up calls, the occupant's name wasn't added to the mailbox and call box causing numerous mail delivery headaches. Despite regularly posted hours, they tend to work whatever they feel like, which seems to be 11am to 3pm.

I LOVED my Alat there... by far the best space I have lived in. but, my car was broken into, and a few months later was stolen. Finding a parking space is difficult in the first place, but it's better if you don't have a car if you live here. The actual building is nice, and the rooftop deck is AMAZING!!! The bad part of living There's that the walls are so thin, you can hear every word of conversations next door and above you, which means other people can also hear everything you do. The mgmt office staff is great, and the security people that are regulars are really nice. If you don't mind people hearing you and you hearing everything your neighbors do, then it's a awesome spot to live!!!

Compared with other reviews here, I had a different experience. Don't own a car, so the frequently mentioned break-ins don't affect me (or at least not like someone who parks outside). They recently added parking. I can hear my neighbors too, but I live on the top floor, next to an elevator. So I only have one neighbor. They are usually quiet and were never loud at night. As for maintenance, the mgt isn't fast to respond to emails and not always available during their own posted office hours. But the maintenance staff is great and quick about things. On the other hand I seem to be paying a lot more for my unit (1BR, 850 sf) than others. I moved in Sept-08. My biggest complaint is the old construction. It looks great. But brick is cracking and falling. So the 2 feet along the outside wall is constantly covered with various sized pieces of brick. And the windows leak so There's often wind noise - no problem with heat though.

I've lived here a number of years, and look forward to living here several more years. In fact, as I compare my experience here with previous living experiences, and to the horror stories told by friends of their current living situations, I treasure living here even more.
The three managers are all extremely friendly and quick to respond to any maintenance request I've ever made. The maintenance staff is also courteous and efficient. The building itself is an historic landmark and great care is taken to keep both the exterior and the inside public spaces in great condition. The amenities are on par with any other--and more Extravagant--building on the Gold Coast or in Lincoln Park. But because we're in River West, the neighborhood itself is less congested and much less "precious".
Having lived in both, I prefer the semi- industrial look of this neighborhood.

Mostly satisfactory overall, but there are several significant issues: 1. sound The walls are remarkably thin—I can hear my neighbors sneeze and catch every word of their phone conversations, not to mention blaring music. The wooden construction transmits vibrations throughout the unit in an intrusive way. 2. heat Expect roughly a week without heating during cold weather due to the two-pipe heating system, which mgmt can't resolve. A space heater is essential! 3. poor structure design The ground-floor package room, located near the mgmt office, has limited access—you can only reach it via the freight elevator or through the first floor, which is exit-only. When the freight elevator isn't operating, there's no practical way to retrieve packages (and the exterior gate closes between 6-7pm anyway). If you're not careful, you're forced to leave the structure and re-enter from a different entrance. Picture yourself stuck outside in pajamas when it's 20 degrees... 4. The windows appear to be single-pane without proper insulation. They accumulate condensation after showers and become completely frosted over in winter. 5. No range hood above the stove! The fire alarm goes off constantly while cooking. I wonder if other residents actually cook here...

My boyfriend and I are currently residing here and our lease expires at the conclusion of next month. I have quite a complicated relationship with this complex. To begin, I am a senior in college and many of the occupants are older and consequently prefer not having visitors around as often. I respect their perspective, though it did create challenges for me. Positives- great mgmt team- Terry is delightful and I will really miss him. Stunning lofts- The exposed brick is absolutely gorgeous. Modern kitchens. Incredibly tall ceilings. Private fireplace in unit. Upkeep is always prompt- Whenever something has broken in my unit it has been repaired within 24 hours. Front desk attendant- Andrew is Astounding and I will truly miss him. He consistently goes above and beyond. Structure- The structure itself is magnificent, contemporary and extremely safe. Terrace- You get an Astounding panoramic view of the whole city. Delightful to relax up there and spend time during warm months. Fitness center- fantastic. Negatives- Vehicles- Street parking is absolutely Awful. Ask any tenant here. My vehicle has been vandalized TWICE over five weeks. And There's permit parking throughout so if you have overnight guests they will receive a citation if they don't relocate their car by 9 am. Sound- This has honestly been my BIGGEST frustration with the complex. I can hear my adjacent neighbors coughing, phones buzzing and timers sounding at 6 am. But I did encounter a particularly difficult situation. The neighbors beside us were a violent couple and my friends and family could hear him striking her, both of them fighting at all times, profanity, arguments about intimate matters. It's something I hope never to encounter again. I genuinely adore River West and treasured calling this residence home for the previous year. sadly as a college student my friends can occasionally get rowdy and one of my visitors made a terribly careless choice that River West disapproved of. I would certainly recommend this structure to prospective residents. It's stunning, delightful and truly feels like home. I will miss you River West but I am simply not prepared to abandon having social gatherings and guests over until 3 am on weekends. I am not 35.
