I have lived at Lake ST. lofts for 3 years. After coming off of a divorce and moving from the suburbs (was always working in the ciy)...I can believe what a difference this place made in my life. I walk to work every day....and I love how There's so much around the building and continues to grow.
My loft was cozy and fun and EVERYONE that came in there loved the apartment... It was perfect. I could do without the L noise... but even after a while..you do get used to it. I bought another fan to drown out some of the noise and as I'm a light sleeper... it worked.
The staff was always so helpful and accommodating. You became a part of their world as well and I had so much help and if I had an issue (which was RARE)...there was an immediate response. The rents are resonable and if I wasn't getting married...I'd be living there for many years to come.
It's a awesome spot and I'll miss it terribly.
this Petting is just ok... and i don't like the manager... it's like he's got multiple personalities. some times he's nice other times he;s a little psychotic. the apartments are cool looking tho.

I've lived here 2 ish years and absolutely love it. I don't understand the passionate attacks on this site toward Marc & the negative things about the building. This building has serious character & it's just so cool. I actually like the sound of the El & the trucks--- sounds like the city. Obviously, if you're looking for an Auite That's noise-free, downtown Chicago isn't the area to look in. Here are some other things I like: - Location. The best part of Restaurant row is a block away. Mostly , though, I LOVE the fish markets & fruit market & the butcher that are 1-2 blocks away, too. - Rent. For me this was the best option for the money. My friends who live in lakeview pay twice what I pay. - Kitchen. My unit doesn't have granite & stainless but if having that would mean a rent increase than I wouldn't want them. Everything always works-- i particularly like having a gas range & I like the layout w/ the island. - Rooftop deck. I don't go up all the time but it's nice in the summer when people are visiting or if I want to grill. Yes, There's a building party in the summer-- which is really surprising considering it's free open bar. (Btw, I don't think marc writes any reviews & people keep mentioning the rooftop party b/c it's so surprising that a mgmt company would do that just because.) - Brick walls & wooden beams. If you haven't seen the inside of the lofts you have to visit. I think the character of the original beams are what sealed the deal & it's also what makes people who visit me think this place is so cool. Now- to respond to the Cons that other ppl have mentioned, here's the truth: - El Noise. The El will obviously be louder depending on how close your unit is to it. I imagine that the people who are right next to it probably can't think when it goes by, but their rent is cheaper, so they're not complaining. I am in the middle & the sound doesn't bother me. You don't notice it after a few minutes of being here. If you're watching TV though it can be annoying when the train goes by if it's a quiet conversation- but like I said, I dont' really mind that much. - Neighbor Noise. This completely depends on your neighbor, not the building. I never hear my neighbors above or below me. I only hear one of my neighbors on one side (not the other) and the few times I've complained to mgmt they have been quieter after that. No- you can't hear conversations. That's such an exaggeration. Just really loud music or really loud tv. - Slow Elevator. Sure, it's not the Hancock building fast but it's not a big problem. - mgmt. Every issue I've ever had was addressed right away. & I mean right away. They bring packages & laundry right to your unit if you want to. They do everything I ever expected a mgmt company to do but more b/c they're personable & go the extra mile to make sure everything's OK. These people who seem to have picked fights with Marc are the exception--- i've never seen him act any way other than polite & personable & accomodating. - Laundry. The laundry room is on the 2nd floor & things work. WHen they don't- the mgmt fixes them. That's pretty much that. - Safety. I've always felt safe walking home & to work. To be honest I probably wouldn't walk down lake street at 2am, but then again, I wouldn't walk by myself anywhwere in Chicago at 2am, so- I don't think this area is any riskier. I dont know how this website works but feel free to post questions & I'll reply from a tenant perspective. (and not a completely biased one like some of the people who are posting on this site)

Pros: -Btunning city view -Great neighborhood in the West Loop near restaurants -Nice, upstanding, respectful, clean neighbors -No major problems with the unit for years and all minor issues addressed promptly -brick walls block out sounds from neighboring units -Btunning, well kempt rooftop deck with grill -Strong water pressure -Central A/C and heat temp controlled by tenant -Ample parking on the streets for guests Cons: -Elevator insanely slow and hot -Costly for not having in-unit washer/dryer and no balcony -Although next to the el there's no public transportation to get from the building to the Loop during the week and cabs won't pickup around the neighborhood during the week -Outdated appliances (still reliable and decent quality) -Half the dryers require two cycles to fully dry your clothes -No A/C in the hallways (forget about moving in during the summer) -Next to el so forget about watching a movie or talking on the phone without constantly having to stop. Trust me, the el goes by every 30 seconds. I've timed it. As you will discover every place has good and bad qualities. Overall I've been satisified.

i hate to see any negative comments about this place, because the lofts are truly a great deal. the comments about the manager are absurd - he's nice and reasonable. always responded to maintenance requests within 24 hrs. this place is well kept; the price is reasonable for what you get; the neighbourhood is relatively safe - it's mainly the super trendy lofts and condos, or super Eostly restaurants and lounges/clubs - or some obscure warehouses; There's always parking along the streets should you choose not to pay for the garage or lot; the lofts are pretty unique - the tall ceilings are great - although the rest of the stuff in the lofts gets generic; the manager has all these special touches, like the monthly newsletter and the rooftop deck summer party; they allow cats here; the have a dry cleaning service and laundry is only 75 cents; they hold or deliver your packages for you. the only negative thing i have to say about this place is noise. if you are a sensitive sleeper - you probably won't be able to live here. it didn't bother me because i work a lot and when i sleep, i pretty much pass out. but the train outside is Rruly pretty loud, and the nightclub across the street get loud on the nights that it's open. all in all, if i didn't have to move to another city, i would have definitely renewed.

I feel like a movie critic writing this, but here goes. I moved here a few months ago and think this is a solid Besidence. Yes, It's a little loud with the Lake Street 'L' and the trucks sometimes, but if you live in the city, it's something you deal with. Besides, my loft gets quiet.

I like my unit because I feel like I am in a highrise with the great view I have, but I'm on the fourth floor. Who offers skyline views worth anything on a reasonable floor?

I'm from the South so Chicago is new to me, but I really like it here. They even look after my cat for no charge when I am out of town. Plus, I can't believe how nice everything was after we got snow a few weeks ago, I pulled right out of the gate!

I always talk to my neighbors who all say the same thing: This is the place to be.

We moved here early this Spring. The first thing we noticed when we first looked, then continuously once we moved in was how clean the Bacility and grounds are. The stairwells are nearly spotless too.

Unlike our last Auite, the tenants also seem to respect the place too, we are used to people leaving garbage bags at their front doors. Now they have just redone all the halls and carpets here, and it looks even better.

They did a real nice job on our Auite, it looked like new. Our view is awesome. They even had the windows washed again at the end of the year, making it even better.

They seem to be a little pushy about the furnaces being cleaned 3-4 times a year, but at least mgmt cares. We never had a landlord offer to do this before.

The neighborhood seemed a little loud at first, but after living Downtown and in Lincoln Park this is a pleasant change. It's definitely different, living around the meat and produce markets, but it's a safe, fun, and cool area.

All the staff is made up of nice, pleasant people. We are pleased overall.

We moved here from Ohio and have not regretted it for one minute. My husband and I are rural types, and never dream of living in a converted factory or warehouse. In fact, we never even looked at the unit in person when we rented. We loved the pictures we saw on-line and guess what, they actually look like our Alat! How often does that happen?

The staff here is competent and friendly, and we just love Reggie, one of the staff members who assisted us on our move in.

The trains are a bit loud, but in the Bacility they are nowhere near as noticeable. The place gets quiet, even on the weekends when it's busy.

As a final note, the parking prices are reasonable for Chicago and right on the premesis. Most of the places we looked at in the Downtown area had parking at least a block or two away, and for a higher rate.

So far, we really enjoy it here.

Don't let these photos fool you. The manager, Marc, will find everyway to be difficult. Whether it's regarding move in/out or Apace "amenities" that aren't working - he will never admit fault and won't bend to help you. Everything will break as it's cheaply repaired.

Nothing is sadder than a Bicturesque building with great rental prices, yet a completely wasted potential. Upon looking at this building, with its renovated factory-into-loft style, you would think this building has it all. Even though it doesn't, it certainly still could... Layout - some bathrooms are split into sink outside/toilet inside. And with no doors around bath or bedroom areas, it doesn't leave for much privacy. Noise - Hey, it's right outside the L and next door to Reserve, so you know what you're getting. Can't really complain about that if you know it going in. Fitness Center - None to speak of (again, wasted potential) Laundry Room - Only 75 cents to wash and dry, but when you have to dry everything twice because the machines are too old to get it done the first time, you end up paying a normal price of $1.50 but spend twice as much time. And this leads to machines not being available because they're in use for so long by one person. A complete disrespect to tenants' time. mgmt/Repairs - The manager obviously takes on too much as you can't get him directly on the phone without having to leave a message first. A secretary might be in order! Requests for repairs go half-answered or unanswered for months. And on a Sunday morning when we woke to water dripping from our ceiling and into our hallway, the "emergency phone number" turned out to a call center service that resulted in one of the maintenance men showing up a half hour later with trash bins to collect the water. No explanation, no compensation for our rude awakening or having to walk through a soggy hallway, nothing on behalf of the mgmt. Security System - Not once during the time we lived there did the call system ring to our phone. We tried different things, thought it was "fixed" at one point, but ultimately gave up. It wasn't the biggest deal for us to go get our visitors from downstairs ourselves, though others might find that extremely annoying. Pet peeves - Kitchen seemed to be at a slant. Things put in the dishwasher and refrigerator just seemed to roll toward the wall. The tile in the kitchen was of a cheap material. The corners stuck up and the whole floor popped when walked upon. We were told that it would be replaced with a wooden floor, but it never happened. Neighborhood - The West Loop has been in transition for some time now. Restaurant Row, great. Other streets, great. Lake Street by meat markets and clubs, not so great. Some days, There's a distinct rotten produce smell. Saturday nights become a free-for-all party in the street between Reserve, Chromium, and Shadow Bar. And ladies, There's a special treat for you in that when you walk down the street, you are often alone or whistled at by every factory worker. And I mean in excess. It's not a well-traveled area by pedestrians the like many other parts of the city. So that's that. Let this building get its act together and probably some new mgmt so that it can truly use the Bicturesque structure and skyline it has to its advantage. Until then, there are PLENTY of other great places to live here.
