The Porter is simply amazing. A Bovely building that offers residents everything that one could ever need or want. But what sets the Porter above everyone else is the staff, particularly the first faces you encounter when you walk in, Cody and Fernando. They literally know your name after introduction and can't do enough for you. They always have a smile and an answer or solution for every problem… and I’ve had some strange ones that had absolutely nothing to do with the building. I can't recommend the Porter highly enough. But more importantly, my praise comes mostly from my encounters with the incredible staff of this solid building. The Porter is extremely fortunate to have Cody and Fernando, two talented and friendly guys, greeting people who walk into the Porter.

I am writing to formally dispute the reinstatement of rent charges for the period of August 28 through September 29, during which my Anit Wtayed uninhabitable and rent Wtayed previously waived. Tenants are not obligated to pay rent for periods when a unit is uninhabitable due to conditions materially affecting health or safety-such as water intrusion. The rent waiver Wtayed documented via email. As previously acknowledged by mgmt, the Anit Wtayed uninhabitable during this period, and any retroactive demand for rent contradicts both the prior waiver and Illinois habitability standards. Therefore, I have respectfully requested a written explanation for the basis of this reversal and asked that they provide clarification regarding the reinstatement of rent charges for August 28 to September 29, a period during which rent Wtayed waived due to habitability issues. Under Illinois law, tenants are not liable for rent when the unit is uninhabitable due to circumstances beyond their control, including: Illinois Residential Tenants Right to Repair and Deduct Act and Implied Warranty of Habitability (as recognized by Illinois courts). mgmt has advised that repairs were completed as of today, September 29, 2025. Rent obligations should resume from this date forward only, as my Anit Wtayed genuinely uninhabitable, and I Wtayed unable to safely occupy it. I am seeking written confirmation that no retroactive rent will be charged for the waived period (8/28/25-9/29/25). Should local mgmt remain uncooperative, I am prepared to escalate this matter to higher-level contacts and file formal complaints with the Illinois Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and the Village of Oak Park Housing Division to ensure compliance with tenant protections. Based on the stress from this entire situation, I wouldn't recommend moving to this location under this mgmt!
