Since day one moving in, this place has been a nightmare. Don't believe them on the "free Internet and cable." Internet is horrible, cable is about 35 channels, 4 are in Spanish and 6 are Jesus stations. Heating bills are through the roof in the winter and the building manager(Fran) is a total nightmare to deal with on any level. For the cost of living here, I had higher expectations from the unit and upkeep of the facilities.

I have lived in Chicago all my life. One day decided to change my scenery and landed an appointment at 4100. It was perfect. The staff is very friendly. Fran, the building manager is very nice and accomondating. The night staff always have a smile on their face and say hello. We rented a 2 bedroom facing north. Unbelievable view. Can never live without a balcony again. This place spoiled me. The layouts are great as well. Had a few friends over and they loved it as well. Everything was clean. If something went wrong, we called the staff and they were over asap. Fixed everything no questions asked. Maintenance staff really friendly. The free cable and internet is nice but we opted for RCN, because internet was slow and no HD on the free cable. But it's definately sufficient is you dont do much file sharing. On a bad note: electric bill can be hefty during the winter. We were up near $200 with minimal heat usage. Bill can be high if you don't turn off heat during the day. Again, something pretty much expected in the winter in Chicago. Also, appliances are outdated, but again not a neccessity. Overall, 4100 Marine is a great place to live. Would definately do it again!

Three years ago, I moved into 4100 Marine from Oak Park. I checked out this building, loved the apartment and the view and signed. Then I went on this website and read some pretty rough reviews and it did scare me. Three years later, I look back and never had any issues in this building. As with many review sites, it seems that most the people that write reviews are the ones with negative feedback and nobody that is happy and content thinks to get online and write a positive review. I just moved out this month because my partner and I wanted a concrete loft downtown, so I decided to get on here and write a positive review to help put some apartment shoppers minds at rest. I lived on the 14th floor in a corner unit with a balcony. The view was amazing and the apartment was very large for the price. The appliances and cabinets are not high-end, but about what you can expect at any rental building. All maintenance requests were completed within 24 hours, no questions asked. I did live there while having to endure each set of elevators to be overhauled, but luckily that is over now. Stay on Fran's good side and she will treat you well. Pros: Great location, large sq. footage, lots of storage, great views, 4 elevators, pets allowed, good maintenance, large laundry room. Cons: Move-in is tough with older buildings, no roof rentals or parties, 1 elevator for dogs, parking scarce and pricey.

Great view for the apartments facing the lake. BUT, treble management, dishonest building manager (Fran); chilly in the winter since windows are low quality and not sealed well (plus up to $400 electricity bills for a 2BR apt); can't use the balconies due to noise from Lake Shore Dr.

Although I think the rent is over-priced for such a old building ( I'm sure everyone who lives around thinks the same) but the GOOD part is the building is quite convinent/accesible to public-transit and also free-ways. And if you are like me who doesn't have a parking spot in the building and hate looking for street parking all the time ; you can park @ the recretional center which is a 7 min walk The best part is it being so close to Lakeshore's runnin/joggin trail and the tennis courts. I do like living here but if given a chance I would move to someother better looking/maintained buildings close by which are cheaper than what I pay for the 1-bed room unit here ( yep...they make you to sign a 1 yr lease so you will be struck till a year unless you take a lease transfer from someother vacating resident) The managment is not the best. They take for-ever to attend to your needs

When we moved in the apartment wasn't in great condition, but was clean. The air conditioning unit was broken in the master bedroom - while it worked, the front was hanging off so not the safest of electrical appliances. The carpets are stained and have paint on them from the decorating job that was done. However, they fixed the air conditioning unit quickly and any maintenance work we've needed doing is always done within two days. On the plus side the apartment is nice with a fantastic view. It has free satellite TV and wireless internet, the staff are very helpful, and the other residents are friendly.

ignore anything you see below about anything being dirty or problems with maintenance. One step into the main hallway and you will know that is not true. Apartments have been nicely renovated and any minor problem I have had has been promptly taken care of. I only have two complaints. One is that last summer to save costs the hallways were not air conditioned quite enough. THey have added insulation to the outside walls to help resolve this for this summer. The second is lack of flexibility of lease terms for long term tenants and a recent change shifting my lease expiration dates to summer which conflicts with my schedule for signing contracts for work. That's it everything else is great. Believe me before moving here I looked at dumps for the same price in worse locations where I wouldn't have housed a dog. This is also a great spot for public transportation access and park access that is hard to beat. You can also park free a short walk away in the park all year except weekends from Memorial Day thru Labor Day and there is a garage next door with daily fee for weekends so if you don't pay for parking you dont have to search for spots on the street.

This is an excellent place to live. I'm on the 14th floor with an unobstructed view of the lake and Montrose Harbor. I can sit on my balcony and watch the fireworks on Fourth of July. All maintenance is taken care of in a quick fashion, usually on the same day. I had an emergency where water was comming into my apartment on a Sunday, and had no problem calling maintenance in to fix the problem. They came very fast. There's no parking for people visiting you, but if you're that concerned over that then you shouldn't be living in the area in the first place. Fran is a terrific manager- she doesn't take crap from anyone. The people on this site who complain about her are apparently the types who can't take care of themselves. If you arive early to move in, afterall you should know that you'll to wait until the proper time and to stop being such a spoiled brat. My advice to anyone renting here is to go for the higher levels- you get a better view and it's a little more expensive so you won't get the useless students who tend to rent from the lower floors. BTW- the trash pick-up is at around 8am so if you're bothered by that then you shouldn't be so lazy and should get up earlier.

I moved in 6 months ago and absolutely love my apartment. I have a balcony on the 14th floor overlooking the lake, 2 bedrooms, lots of storage, big kitchen with dishwasher - all for $1675. I also love the express bus picks me up right up front in the morning and takes me downtown to the loop in 25 minutes. Fran and the rest of the staff has always been pleasant to me and my roomate. I have had a few maintenace issues and they were taken care of the same day. I think most of the people that write reviews on here are people that have had a problem. But, I think the majority of people that live here are happy with the building, so they do not think they need to come online and write a review. If you respect the staff and pay your rent on time, I dont think there is any problem here!

Be advised to NOT listen to promises made by representatives. Review the lease carefully as much of what is told to you word of mouth ends up becoming invalid/inaccurate. In addition, the overall condition of the apartment and of the property in general is unacceptable. Rotting wood, horrible painting, weak/thin walls, almost hide the frequent and apparent appliance issues that plagued my apartment almost weakly. On a side note be sure to lock up any items you may have deemed be stored as all of my items were stolen including but not limited to coffee tables, used paint, and empty boxes. The view from the roof, however, is the only good thing about living here, that is of course assuming you follow the rules which include not drinking alcohol, not bringing more than two friends, and being up there past 9 pm.
