“Mahalia Place is the WORST place I have ever lived in my 13+ years of being a Chicago renter! I ended up breaking my lease 5 months early due to a hug”

Mahalia Place is the WORST place I have ever lived in my 13+ years of being a Chicago renter! I ended up breaking my lease 5 months early due to a huge infestation of mice! mgmt and maintenance acted like rodent droppings all over my kitchen each morning weren't a big deal. I also had an issue with other residents not adhering to the rules and policies written in the leases regarding noise, garbage disposal, loitering, and occupancy. mgmt turned a blind eye to residents having 10 people living in 2-bedroom units and partying in the outdoor spaces until 2 o'clock in the morning. It was mandatory for me to fill out paperwork yearly regarding my employment and salary, yet most of my neighbors DID NOT WORK! I was hesitant to move into an area that was labeled as "mixed income housing", and rightfully so! Great attention and detail was paid to the units of Chicago Housing Authority voucher holders while those of us that got up and went to a job every day to pay the increasing rent and utilities were swept under the rug concerning repairs. I was also asked to bring loads of information regarding my vehicle and insurance to the mgmt office to obtain a parking permit while my neighbors' visitors were allowed to park in (and take up) resident-only spaces. I won't even expound on the trash and debris you walk through just to get to your vehicle! The neighborhood also left much to be desired with the only business being the typical liquor store (which will accept EBT cards, but not bank debit cards), chicken joint, and corner store. You can't get decent groceries or restaurant-cooked food for MILES! If you enjoy living in a food desert with neighborhood thugs selling drugs in front of the Apace buildings and prostitutes walking the street, this is the place for you! I stayed far too long because of the affordable rent, but here, you truly get what you pay for!
