“Pros: Management is responsive. Amenities are in good shape, though the pool is mostly used for kids classes. Neighbors are great. Cons: Occasionally had cockroach issue.”

“Pros: The public areas and amenities are always well kept. This building has one of the best rooftop areas in the city, seriously. Nice sunset views and plenty of seating, well spread out for privacy. The building staff are responsive, helpful, and friendly. Overall, there is good communication about packages being delivered, water shut offs, etc. Cons: Hallways definitely need to renovated ASAP. Sometimes it takes more than one request to get a repair done, especially with heating/cooling. Usually the problem gets fixed in the end, though. There isn’t enough storage for incoming packages, and sometimes they’re all over the place such that desk attendants can’t find what they’re looking for. Advice to landlord: Start hallway renovations soon. Improve package storage and organization. Make sure you’re paying your staff well — they are all worth it!”

“Windermere is the trashiest building ever. Stellar management is horrible. The super is a ----! Worst management ever. Anytime you ask for maintenance, they tell you the building is old and there is nothing they can do about it. They leave tenants without heat, water and basic essentials for months. They enter apartments without permission.”

“Great building, nice room, but poorest management ever. The super in this building is the probably the worst I've ever met. He was "nice" when you just moved in and gave you a hard time when you decided to leave. He seemed really mad most of time but nobody knows why. Anyway, if you are not planning to stay here for a long time, think twice, carefully!”

“It's very odd how all the reviews below are so positive and posted around the same time. That's just not the case here. Despite the recent renovations, you'll find that the building never managed to reach its full potential. When there is a problem - and there are many - management is unresponsive. It could be a much better place to live with more professional and knowledgeable staff. As it is, it's very frustrating here and I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I wish I had taken the advice of those who had warned me. It's been a nightmare.”

“Rented a place for my daughter while she was at Grad School at Columbia. Liam and the rest of the staff were amazing through the rental process and during her stay. They went over and above to help us. The building is beautifully renovated and in a great location. The move out was also easy. My daughter's only complaint was that it was sometimes noisy as renovation work seems to be ongoing as old tenants move out. Would definately recommend and would rent there again if the opportunity arises.”

“I chose the Windermere because of the great looking renovation, light, and privacy of my studio apartment. The amenities are great, especially the roof deck. The best thing, though, is that the management of the building has always been very responsive. There is an in-house management office and always someone to respond quickly to an email and send up the super or whatever might be needed. It's a terrific building! - JRL”

“I loved living at The Windermere for two years! The building had everything I wanted: an amazing location, phenomenal amenities (gorgeous roof deck, sparkling pool, clean exercise facilities) and, most of all, friendly and helpful staff. Pia and William from the management company are truly incomparable - they will bend over backwards to help you. My one bedroom, two bath was delivered to me in perfect condition - clean, everything in working order. The few times I needed something minor fixed (lightbulb changed, smoke detector battery replaced), the maintenance department attended to it within minutes (honestly). The only reason I left is because I purchased a condo. I highly recommend The Windermere.”

Maintenance always ready to help and fast in the response. They will never leave you without giving a solution to the issue. Great amenities always clean and available. The building is an amazing spot for families. Right in front of best schools and day cares in the area, hippo park and express metro. Cannot find a better location that meets all the requirements for a quality living in Manhattan.”

“I chose the Windemere because I loved the amenities! The roof is newly renovated with beautiful furnishings, lovely seasonal plantings, a bar with refrigerator, a large gas grill, lounge chairs for sunbathing and a 360 degree view of the city and sunsets over the Hudson. Also a large indoor roof lounge that is beautifully decorated. My reason for moving to NYC was to care for my grandson. It was very important that I had easy access with a stroller and a playroom for small children. A pool and a gym are included in the amenities. It's great to live in a building with nice and friendly people to greet you upon arrival each time as i have with 24 hour doorman amenity.”

“I love living in this building. The location is amazing. Very close to the subway, the park, great restaurants and food shops. It genuinely feels like a neighborhood and not the crazy hustle bustle of NYC. The amenities of the building are awesome. The maintenance crew is always working on things to make sure the building is in top shape at all times. The leasing office is always open and willing to discuss and questions or concerns. Overall very friendly and attentive staff. I will miss it!”

“After two months of research, my family and I chose the Windermere as our place of residence. The apartment is modern and renovated and the building has a fantastic roof deck and lounge. Liam from the leasing office handled everything extremely courteously. Along with the concierge service, the building made the move-in process and dealing with all the accompanying paperwork very easy for us. The staff is very friendly and the online system is very effective in notifying us when packages have been delivered. The building itself is beautiful renovated prewar with a large and beautiful lobby and the amenities (pool, gym, lounges and roof deck) are well-maintained and easily accessible via the key card provided. I had few service requests and the service has been impeccable, all resolved quickly and with no hassle for me. Thus far it has been a fantastic experience. I highly recommend this place with no reservation. I am very pleased with my choice.”

“I have been at the Windermere for just a few months. Having lived in several NYC apartments, I can appreciate the benefits of living here. The location on West End Ave. is great. WEA has the advantage of being noncommercial and thus relatively quiet. Yet you are just off Upper Broadway with the subway and all the shops and restuarants and commercial activity one could ask for. But the most important benefit of the Windermere is the staff. The concierge desk and staff in general have been extremely helpful in allowing me to quickly settle in. My experience here has been excellent and I highly recommend it.”

“I genuinely enjoyed my time as a tenant at the Windermere. I was in a beautifully updated studio apartment with luxury finishes [stainless steel kitchen appliances, radiant floors in the bathroom etc.]. Repairs were always addressed efficiently - often within a 24-hour period through the online request system. The staff, from the leasing office to the concierge team, were always friendly, professional, and accommodating. The building itself is ideally located - on a quiet block with little to no street noise and easy access to the subway [less than two blocks away]. The top floor featured an amazing tenant lounge [no reservations necessary] that opens up to a shared rooftop space where I could enjoy a glass of wine with a few friends. Yes, the reviews about water outages are true. However, the building staff always notified tenants well in advance, so you could plan accordingly. I would still be living there if I didn't have to relocate to the west coast for work. All in all, a great building!”

“I read the reviews and was very hesitant to move in, however I have been pleasantly surprised by my entire experience and now residency. Everything from the initial move in set up by the on-site concierge, to the condition of my unit upon taking possession has been wonderful. The doorman are nice and greet me as I enter and the super as been nothing but responsive with all my inquiries. The building is well maintained and I use the beautiful gym daily. I have never had heat or hot water issues that were described and Ive lived here for several months. The pool not being open is the only "negative" but at end of day how much am I really looking to go swimming?? When it opens no one should have anything else to complain about but Im sure they will find something. I would definitely recommend the building and to base decisions on reviews written over a year ago is ridiculous!”

“Literally the worst building we have ever lived in. The ariconditioning leaked twice and was never fixed during the summer. We woke up to no hot water the day before Thanksgiving. On Sunday the toilet blocked and there is no hot water to one side of the apartment when the second bathroom and kitchen are located. And, they market themselves as a luxury building. And by the way, the lifts never work properly.”

“It is 7:00 P.M. Thanksgiving Eve. The Hot water and heat have been off since this morning. A storm is howling outside. This building had a very haphazard renovation that causes the hot water, heat, elevators etc. to malfunction on a regular basis. It is being rented as a luxury building. This is a masquerade. Look elsewhere.”

“Just don't do it. Heat a problem in winter, Hot water in the shower hit or miss, sometimes no water with no notice. Noise from above squeeky floor boards and next door, Sewerage wafting from toilet unfixable- fills bedroom with clouds of bad smell, elevators slow and temperamental, little to no assistance in the lobby. Arec is the only one who helps. No roof deck, Gym, etc. Do not move here, unless you get one of the rent controlled spaces that are seeping electricity from the renovated ones.”

“no amenities yet; management lies about everything, or they just don't care the renovations were done so shabbily that they are coming apart wherever you look; RATS on 92nd street every night; gray commercial carpet and GRAY appliances = terrible choice!! pool is tiny and no roof deck till winter at earliest -- for bigger apartments there are better places in the neighborhood - check 89th and 90th street”

“Construction has been shoddy--exposing tenants to toxic paint fumes, lead paint dust and asbestos. New tenants are moving out in droves. Management puts fancy flower arrangements at the front desk every week, but the building is run extremely poorly. The onside property manager position has been a revolving door since January 2011; we're on manager #5. Two rat violations have been issued in the past month.”

“problems with plumbing refuse to get fixed by management. We have had the smell of sewage in our bathroom since we moved in. Management's suggestion "just open the window". Management constantly lie. Some of the workers there are very nice and they try hard, but management is difficult and obnoxious. Finish in the renovated apartments is nice, but given the issues we have faced (some have been rectified) and the fat that roof deck and pool still are not complete, these are way over priced. We get a lot of noise from above and there must be no insulation between apartments and our neighbor washes her dishes right next to our bedroom every night at 11pm.. Ugh!”

“The best thing about building is location. Otherwise, I would not move in! There are no services on the building. Nothing works as it should even though it looks good. I can't wait for the lease to end!”

“I have lived in this building for close to a year now. I must say, I can not wait until my lease ends. Worse mistake I've ever made. Where do I start? First off management is a joke. I've seen 2 managers and 2 supers since I've been here. The first building manager didn't have a clue as to what she was doing and the new guy is just as clueless if not more. Looks like they find these people on the corner somewhere. The first super I met was another joke. They guy didnt have a clue on what to do when he came to my apt. I come from a construction family and i am fully aware of how things work and it was sad that this guy would explain things to me that made no sense at all. The second super (in less then a year) seems promising. He seems to know what he is doing and is (unlike everyone else) concerned about helping out. Honestly, he seems to be our only hope. I doubt he will last long in this mess as it will take God himself to clean this up. Building is way under staffed. There is one handy man for a 23 story 340 unit apt building so you can imagine how backed up on work orders they are. I always only see one porter at any given time for this large building. I have seen the super on several occasions cleaning the lobby and elevators. The water situation here is unbearable. Water gets shut down constantly without notice and theres always some excuse. Having hot water is like hitting the lottery. The heat here only works for 30 mins at a time so during cold nights we all freeze for 30 mins in every hour. Theres an infestation of silver fish that the exterminator himself said he can't control. Construction workers are rude and loud. They leave a mess everywhere they go for the one porter or super to clean. I was promised a roof deck and pool months ago and still till this day nothing. I have been to the basement and roof and it is clear that they are 6 months away at the least which would mean that I went through my entire lease without having the amenities i was promised and have been paying for. They gave me a year long membership to the equinox gym which should have rose a flag for me but leasing promised that the pool and gym would be available for use soon. Leasing has force fed this apt to me and everyone else renting in this building. I would never recommend a building like this to anyone.... EVER!!!!”

“noisy and dirty construction is ongoing and no end in sight. floods happen often, no hot water, no cold water, no notice - no roof deck, swimming pool is a joke - mice and bugs like never before - terrible management - 3rd new super in last 12 months - workers always getting fired”

“The building smells awful to say the least. There is not real trash chute but garbage is located at the emergency stairs. We've been without water for 10 days in January. My heat never hasn't work properly. The concierge is a joke, they don't even keep your fresh direct boxes for an hour. The elevators don't work a lot of times and when they do you have to plan ahead because they take so long. There're no amenities so far, and I wonder if they are really working on that. More than have the building still have the old tenants that damage the little things that are done and are very happy to shout out loud to the people you have over how stupid you are paying what you paid when they pay 300 dollars a month. This is for sure the worst building to live in, a nightmare!!!”

“I wish I saw this website before I moved in. I only searched it because I wanted to see if I was crazy or the only one that feels like they were sold a dream and trapped in a nightmare. Youre better off in a walkup with no amenities. These apartments are way overprized. Building is horrible and management completely ignores your concerns. I wish someone had warned me, stay away!”

“building management is poor. latest indignity is that we have had no mail service at the building now for almost three weeks. management rearranged the mailboxes, apparently without coordinating with the post office. management posted a notice in the lobby, in which it lied to the tenants, and falsely blamed the stoppage in mail service on the hurricane. no idea when mail service will be restored. this is the first time that i have lived in a building without mail service.”
