“Pros: good light, good super, good location Cons: massive issues with pipes, water leaking through walls”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Unit 2A Pros: You're close to the train and the park, and there's a laundromat and grocery store at the end of the block Cons: 1. Rats. There were literal rats in my apartment. All they did to resolve this was to patch up the hole in the wall, as far as I know there was never any extermination attempt made. I could literally hear them in the walls, they were so loud it would wake me up at night. 2. Mice. There were also mice in the apartment, which again, nothing was ever done about in any useful capacity. 3. Literally never knew who my super was, it was impossible to get ahold of anybody, let alone get them to actually show up at the time they said they would. 4. There were no security cameras in the hallways, package thieves loved this. 5. Noisy neighbors. Yelling, screaming, slamming doors, throwing things, punching the walls, you name it. 6. The water would get shut off randomly, with no warning, for hours on end. 7. The heat would go out for days at a time in the middle of winter. When it was on it was so hot I had to keep all of the windows open otherwise I would burn to death. 8. They refused to fix multiple leaks in my apartment until after I left, which meant that they took from my security deposit to cover those repairs, even though I didn't cause them. 9. My door was broken and I could not get back into my apartment. I was able to use a neighbor's phone to get in touch with our super. His response? "Can't you try climbing through the window?" Advice to landlord: Please consider another "profession"”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Neighbors are great, it's a pet friendly building and there's barely any noise (may have more to do with the area than the building). Cons: Landlord is a slumlord.”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: - Short walk to the D train. Cons: - Owner is a slumlord - Illegally cut our electricity for two weeks - Roaches - Owner has inspectors/city employees paid off, so even if you report issues, they will never be fixed. - Structural and water damage that the owner refuses to repair - Mold - If you report any issues to management, they will just blame you, and do nothing Advice to landlord: Throw yourself over the Verrazano Bridge”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Unit 9C Pros: Building has a lot of potential. It's a short walk to the subway. Building is quiet for New York City. Cons: Practically everything is falling apart. Heat randomly disappears. Management is unresponsive and apathetic.”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Nice location, quiet (really thick walls), apartments get good light. Neighbors are all very nice. Cons: Management is largely unresponsive. Trash is out of control; I see rats almost every time I take my trash out. The apartment itself is sort of standard nyc crappy: walls and moldings have been repainted to oblivion; the floors were improperly finished and the polyurethane is delaminating in sheets. There have been occasional problems with the heat and hot water during the winter. The front door breaks constantly and will remain open for *weeks* at a time—it's a safe neighborhood, but still. Living in NYC I've learned not to expect much (especially from old buildings!), but this property feels a notch below average, and management is very hard to get a hold of.”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Neighborhood is nice Cons: All you need to do is google the landlord. He communicates terribly and his response depends on whether you catch him on a good day. - The building is terribly maintained. The hallways are incredibly dirty and never cleaned unless there's an actual biohazard. When they are cleaned, it's done very poorly. -There is constant trash in the entry way and all along the block where the trash area situates. It's not maintained properly and attracts rodents inside. -The buzzer for the front gate broke down soon after we moved in and will likely never be fixed. -There is nothing stopping people from entering the building and stealing packages. Truly no security at all in place. We've even caught other tenants stealing packages! - Roaches and mice thrive here. -Management refuses to spend money to fix any of the issues with the apartments. There's a rotating door of supers who come and go - The building is LITERALLY falling apart. Just take a look at the exterior and you will notice the absurd amount of poorly patched cracks. - Every time it rained heavy our apartment would experience leaks. This is not our unit alone as many neighbors said the same - Paint is also sloppily put over any and all problems. Our doors don't shut correctly because there's just years and years of paint built up on top. - Water gets turned off periodically without any warning for hours on end. This has happened multiple times in less than a year of living here. We once went without water for a day. -Heating is also unreliable, and at one point did not work for a week in the dead of winter. We were left with no heat or hot water. At some point our heater starting shooting water out from the side and it never got resolved so we just couldn't turn it on. If you google the landlord and management you can find many articles about their unethical practices. Do not live here.”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Nice neighbors, super lives in the building with his family, very nice man. Lots of heat in the winter Cons: The owner is the worst, can not get a hold of him ever. His secretary barely answers the phone. Wanted to increase my rent to way too much above market value Advice to landlord: invest some money in your building, stop putting paint over paint over paint, looks bad”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Great neighborhood , close to park & great food Cons: Infested with roaches. Landlord stole our security deposit. Google “Jack Guela” the owner for more details.”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: A lot of sunlight comes in and the rooms are spacious for a Brooklyn apt. The area is cute too! Cons: The landlord and management is rude or unresponsive and have not kept the terms of the lease. The Super never responds to calls and there is a roach problem! The garbage disposable area is located outside the building and has overflowed onto the sidewalk. Also the neighbors play really loud music throughout the working day multiple days of the week.”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Close to train Cons: Noisy noisy noisy. Kids constantly pressing the intercom as well. Oh Advice to landlord: More”
— 874 43 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Super close to an express train, beautiful parks, and grocery. Management mostly leaves you alone which is great until you need them. The walls are THICK so you rarely hear neighbors. Bathtub is HUGE. Cons: So many maintenance issues. Though the Super is incredibly nice, he is overworked and under equipped. We had so many leaks that couldn’t get fixed because it was structural and would involve replacing pipes that the landlord doesn’t want to pay for. No heat in the winter because fixing our heater would mean tearing it out and replacing it. There is zero communication from the office about important things and they have lost our rent checks several times. Packages constantly get stolen. Very little natural light gets in because the view is the wall of the building next door. Windows are old and inefficient. Advice to landlord: Pay the money to take care of your property instead of letting your tenants suffer with leaks. Putting bandaids on maintenance issues only means more expenses later and the tenants should not have to foot that bill.”
