Favrot is not a five star hotel for sure, but based on my own experiences: It was a very good choice for a short term stay, for people who are new to the city , it is located in the heart of medical center so you find yourself very close to metro and bus stations and also if you want to study , it is surrounded by world-famous hospitals in which you can find good libraries. Although I was there for a couple of months only, but for me it was like an international airport u get to see people from Asia to Latin America, you get to find friends that might be life long friend and become like your close relatives. the architecture is old-fashioned with no doubt but the strategic location , no worry for paying bills, wonderful staff and good access to public transportation make it a good choice for the new houstonians!!! But after all , I think people in charge should seriously be thinking of building a modern complex instead of Favrot

This is an uninspiring old tower block which has seen better days. There are 13 floors and a basement. The price implies the quality of the facility will be a lot better than it actually is. The rooms are incredibly dark, with tiny windows that do not open. You have to rely on lamps to provide light inside even when the sun is shining outside as there are no main light fittings except in the bathroom and closet. It was reasonably clean when we moved in, though the furniture showed signs of use. The room was air conditioned, but it was difficult to adjust this, the dials hissed violently when they were moved. It is also quite a loud unit. There is a helicopter which lands on the building next door throughout the night (and day). It varies, though, some nights you'll hear it once, some nights it will be every 45 minutes throughout the night. As a result I've rated it as often noisy. I think it depends who your neighbors are too. We had one quiet set and then a group who were much noisier. Generally the noise is not from other tenants though. The staff could be more helpful. When you turn up to sign in they make you sign lots of forms - including release forms telling you there is asbestos in there and lead paint. To me they gave the impression they were very busy and didn't have much time for me. Others seemed to really like them, so perhaps my experience was not the best. 11am-1pm and 3-5pm or something were their office hours, weekdays only of course. If you knock on the door at 10.57am, as a lady I saw did, you will be told in no uncertain terms to go away and come back at 11. You have to sort your own internet connection out, which will cost upward of $30 / month and I think there may be a set up charge too. You have to contact the telephone company to arrange this. I opted out of an internet connection because what they were offering wasn't great. If you read the tenancy contract small print it says they are entitled to repaint the rooms at your expense when you leave. This is a bit unnecessary when the tenancies they offer are as short as 1 month. If you are entitled to your deposit return expect them to hold onto it for as long as humanly possible. In terms of location, the Favrot Tower is centrally located in the medical center closest to the Methodist Hospital. I had to walk to the far end of the campus and it took 20-25 minutes each way. The nearest supermarket at about 1.3 miles away is Kroger on the Old Spanish Trail, there's a Randall's on Holcombe but thats about 2 miles. The Fiesta supermarket the office recommend is also a bit of a trek, but easier if you get the Metro Rail to Smithlands. We walked to all of these and frankly it is not fun trekking with drinks and food. You will need to be prepared to buy cutlery and crockery, pillows and linen, as none of this is provided. The oven is unlike anything I've used (it grills from the bottom). With retrospect I should have invested in a toaster. You aren't too far from the zoo, and there are a couple of places to eat. The food court near the John P McGovern Commons is generally poor, but on the other side of the building there's a Chipotle, Subway and Starbucks and there's a McDonald's in the Texas Children's Hospital. The Rice Village is about a 1.7mile walk away, and going straight down University Boulevard is probably the easiest route from here. The Rice Village has shops and places to eat and drink. Anywhere else? Unless you can afford taxis or have a car with you it will be difficult. Everyone complained about parking, from which I inferred that parking is an absolute nightmare (rather than everyone getting one assigned spot, because I don't believe this to be the case). For all the above listed reasons, I would recommend that students and professionals look elsewhere for accommodation. I know it is difficult when you aren't from the area, but these apartments capitalize on that and profit from providing overpriced and very basic rooms.

This is the perfect place for the medical center associated people who are new to Houston and/or do not have a car. Right next to the metro area and at the cross section of multiple bus routes, it is very convenient. Very safe are monitored by cameras and Houston and university police. Fully furnished apartments and all utilities paid. These are not the apartments for people who give a lot of importance to ambiance as these are fairly closed, surrounded by tall buildings, windows do not open, parking is expensive. But people who can go without these things are great. There has been no insect issue with me. I have lived here three years. When all Houston was devastated by Hurricane Ike, this building stood and never lost power as it is connected to the hospital grid. Granted it is old, but the staff is superb and very prompt. There has been a price freeze so that is stable.

I have been there for over two years and the management is very friendly, for the moiney it is the best deal in the medical center. And yes the poarking is a problem, as it is in any other TMC institution.

I lived in Favrot since 1999 (for approximately half of these 10 years); and I continue to live here. I guess this is the best sign of convenience and quality of this place. The staff is very friendly, qualified and helpful. The apartment building is in the heart of the Medical Center, next to Methodist Hospital, just across the street from the Medical School. Free Medical Center Bus service brings you close to grocery store during work-days. So, I perfectly survived without a car. Remote parking with possibility to park next door during off-hours and weekends is available for ~$60 in your Institution. The apartments have everything to start life in Houston. It s very quite here. All utilities are included. Nearby areas are green and safe. The only concern is gradual increase in prices. But, may be this is typical for any apartment? I would definitely recommend this place, at least for starting your work in the Medical Center. Plan to book an apartment well in advance.

While I was studying in Baylor College of Medicine, I lived in Favrot apartment for 6.5 years. For medical professionals and medical students who would prefer convenience and safety, I would totally recommend Favrot to them. Located right next to the Methodist hospital building, I felt safe going back and forth between school and apartment even late at night, while my friends encountered break-ins and armed robbery in some other condo community. The concrete building also stood strong against hurricanes for several decades. You need to be working or studying in the medical center to apply for a room, though, and the waiting list is long. The administrators are friendly and helpful. If you are single and could endure parking off-site, aged facilities, and comparatively high rent (the monthly rate is current set at $920/$1030), I would definitely recommend it over all other apartment complexes.

Only one apt located in the center of Texas Medical Center, surrounded by all the major hospitals and Baylor Medical School, UT Medicine, Dental, Phulic Health schools. Leasing Manager and other staff are great, polite and warm-hearted (not seen in other places). Top-class service, everything is very well organized. UT police surveillance vedio system, 24/7. Highly recommended for young professionls, short-term visiting scholars. The only issue is rent is too high compared to the other apartment outside of the Medical Center, and monthly rent is inceasing every year since I moved in.

I lived there only for 3 mths, but still, it is great ! Every thing is taken care of, safety, security, cleanness, noise, and the staff are so friendly and professional. the only bad thing there is in the 3 bed room units, the bedrooms dont have any windows, and the other units does have a fairly small windows. But if you live in the thireen floor you will enjoy the scene of a helicopter landing on the roof of the very close hospital.. you may find that noisy after a while. another great thing is you dont have to pay any bills, they offer short term leases with no extra fees for that, and the gem there is veeeeeeeeeery nice ! Oh, another good thing is that almost the TMC buildings are withing walking distance form the apts tower, so you can walk, if the weather is OK !

Very disappointing 3rd world standards for a supposed first-class institution. Shower, bathroom and kitchen (Only one between 3 people!)look like they have been there 50 years. Infested with cockroaches- I lived in fear of these creatures and yet signs everywhere warned tenants that they are in violation if we did not report their presence (as if!). Charged $10 if you do not remove your car from parking lot before 8am- what a joke!. No sense of atmosphere other than the 1950s decor and very poor lighting in the apartments. It felt like I was living in a cave in the last century.
