When I started to look for an apartment, I found most apartment rating websites with only bad reviews. The best advice I can give you is to go talk to the residents of the apartment complex to see what they like and do not like about the apartment complex. I have been a resident at Ashley Crest Apartments for about two months. I was not paid to do this review. HERE IS A LIST OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS ABOUT ASHLEY CREST APARTMENTS: GOOD THINGS ABOUT ASHLEY CREST APARTMENTS 1. Small Apartment Complex: 168 units. Only 1 bedroom + 2 bedroom apartments with limits on the number of people you can have in the apartments. 2. Gated Community: Gates are closed 24-7 every day of the week. One entrance/one exit. Some other apartment complexes leave the gates open during business hours. 3. Senior Citizen Discount: 10% discount off rent if you are age 60 and above. 4. Application Fees/Deposits: Cheap. Some apartment complexes are charging $200-350 in non-refundable application fees. a. Application Fee: $40 non-refundable fee. b. Deposit: $100 for 1 bedroom/$150 for 2 bedroom + $150 for an upgraded 1 bedroom/$250 for an upgraded 2 bedroom. 5. Rent: There are 3 tiers of rent for a 1 bedroom (710 sq ft) or a 2 bedroom apartment (902 sq ft) a. Not Updated Apartment (1 bedroom $725/2 bedroom $879): Formica countertops, wood grain tile at entrance way, kitchen and bathroom, pressed cardboard cabinets, ceiling fan in the bedroom and no washer/dryer connections. b. Updated Apartments I: (1 bedroom $825/2 bedroom $979): Have updated kitchen cabinets, countertops, ceiling fan in bedroom and living room, crown molding, washer/dryer connections, water sprinklers inside units. Only a few apartments have these features. c. Updated Apartments II: (1 bedroom $875/2 bedroom $1029): Have updated kitchen cabinets, countertops, wood floors, new carpet, ceiling fan in bedroom. 6. Promotional Rates: The apartment complex offers different promotional rates throughout the year. Right now, if you move in by November 1st you will get $300 off your rent. 7. Bedrooms: Very large (12 ft X15.5 ft) compared to other apartments nearby. 8. Living Rooms: Very large (11.9 ft X 15.1 ft) compared to other apartments nearby. 9. Pest Control: Bugs. Free pest control each week. I have been here several months. I have only seen 2 roaches in my apartment. They may have come in my boxes when I moved. 10. Parking: Reserved parking space ($15/month). I have had no problems finding a parking space at night. Most of the other apartments I visited said if you get there after 7 p.m. there would be no parking spaces. Other apartment complexes are charging $25-35/month for reserved parking. 11. Drains in the Parking Lot: There are numerous drains in the parking lot to help with water drainage. 12. Electricity: Separate electric meters for each apartment. I pay under $40 per month for a 1 bedroom apartment. I use blackout curtains on my windows. 13. Water/sewer: Allocated. My monthly bill is about $16 per month for a 1 bedroom. 14. Fees: No hidden fees. Other apartments are adding junk fees that you are required to pay as part of your rent. No valet trash fee $25/month, no extra monthly fee for pest control, no excessive fees added in addition to water/sewer rates, no excessive reserved parking rates $25-$35/month. 15. Laundromat: Cost $1.25 for washers and $1.00 for dryers. The dryers run for 45 minutes. 16. Closets (3): (1) Large walk in closets in bedroom with three rods to hold clothes, (2) Closet near entrance and (3) Closet between bathroom and bedroom 17. Quiet Apartment Complex: I have found the apartment complex to be very quiet. 18. Safe Apartment Complex: I feel safe at this apartment complex. I have not heard of any break-ins or crime in the apartment complex. BAD THINGS ABOUT ASHLEY CREST APARTMENTS 1. Flooding: The apartment complex flooded during Hurricane Harvey. This was a once in an 800 year flood. This was unavoidable. Many houses as well as apartments were flooded in the Houston area. Prior to Hurricane Harvey, the apartment complex made numerous changes to prevent flooding. Ask the apartment manager or assistant apartment manager what was done to prevent future flooding. 2. Bus line: Not on a bus line (according to one resident). 3. No washer/dryer connections: There are a few apartments that have the washer/dryer connections. There is an onsite laundromat with 10 washers and 10 dryers. 4. Laundromat: Not air conditioned. Does not have any ceiling fans. However, you can call the service company for the washers/dryers and the maintenance man will come out usually the next day. 5. No gym: Most apartments with gyms have only a few machines like the treadmill and the elliptical. There are many gyms nearby. There is a Fitness Connection, LA Fitness and Planet Fitness that is nearby. The Planet Fitness is open 24 hrs a day. 6. Ceiling fans: Only one ceiling fan in the bedroom in most apartments. Some apartments have a ceiling fan in the bedroom and living room. You can pay to have an extra ceiling fan put in, but you cannot take it with you when you leave. 7. No pantry in kitchen: I use the closet between the bathroom and bedroom as a pantry. 8. Living room: No light fixture in the living room. However, there are outlets on every wall in the apartment.

Im currently living here and there is a mold problem that has caused me to go to the Dr. The manager simply told me that we all live with mold so its okay. But it is not okay. I had a rat problem, it was scary to live there, I knew that rat was there watching me every day, and it went on for about 6 months. The neighbor next to me smokes weed and cigg. inside so it goes right through my wall!!! The mold smells nasty I don't even go there anymore.

I was checking out the comments on some of the reviews on my apartments and I was truly surprised at some of the comments. I moved in here almost 2 years ago by myself after my separation. I haven't lived by myself for years and needless to say I was a little hesitant but the office staff made me comfortable from the day I walked into the office. Anytime I need maintenance they respond quickly. (Usually the same day). I have never even seen a roach here. The only negative sometimes is the parking is full if I come home late at night. They do have assigned spaces for rent but it has never been a problem. I recommend my property all the time and plan on being here for a long time.

THE ABSOLUTELY WORST PLACE I've ever lived. Bugs, bugs, bugs!!! Don't bother to tell them when something is broke - they won't fix it. I spent 5 months with a hole in the wall in my shower - they fixed the broken pipe and never came back to put the tile up to cover the hole. It went down hill FAST when Helena left. She may have been ------, but she did stay on top of things. LOOK AROUND! There are MUCH better places available, and they don't cost that much more.

BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS! The whole complex is infested and they dont do anything about it! We had to through allll of our furniture out and so did many of our neighbors. Everyday there is furniture piled up by the dumpster because ppl are throwing it out cuz of the bugs. Do not live here unless you want to start from scratch!

My mom and I have lived here for about 8 years. So I guess it's a decent enough place to live. Over the years we've had some interesting experiences. We've had leaks, broken stoves, leaks, infestations, more leaks. All these things are common with even the best houses or apartments. But bottom line, I think the maintenance staff does a decent enough job to hold the place together. One problem is the leaks. Its usually in the same spots in the bathroom. We live on the first floor so water comes dripping down. I'm not sure if its because the pipes are actualy eroding and breaking or just condesation from the air conditioning. Any time we do have a leak, we call it in and the staff comes to fix it. These frustrations have been made up to us in other ways. The management staff has taken care of us. We've gotten our apartment repainted, our stove was replaced, things like that. The worst thing is the plumbing though. Atleast twice a month the sewage overflows from a drain in the parking lot. There's poop and toilet paper puddling around outside. They do have the plumbers out to fix it every time, but I think its time to get some major maintenance done if it keeps happening this often. I'd recommend these apartments, but try to get one that's close to the entrance.

I have been here since January 2010, and besides these apartments being older with not much insulation in the walls [but my light bill is only $100 for a 2 bedroom], everything is good. Becky and Maria are wonderful, and the maintenance guys are awesome. When I had problems at the beginning of the summer with my A/C going out, they were VERY quick to get it fixed. I live in the back towards the exit, so I don't hear much noise as far as people go.. just cars going out and passing by my unit. I still reside here. Oh and with 2 kids, i do need a washer/dryer in the apartment which these do not have, and the washroom they do have is to dang hot to be in, so I always drive to a nearby washateria.

Move in here in July of 2008 and was a little nervous about it. It was an older complex, but I eventually fell in love with it. Becky and Maria in the office are kind and always willing to help. It is quiet for the most part, in the 2 years I can only remember 3 incidences where noise woke me up at night. Parking can be a problem as it is first come first serve and some of the people have 3-4 cars to each apartment. It seems to go in waves. Last month I couldn't get near my unit, this month, I'm right in front. The only reason I'm moving is no washer and dryers in the unit and with a child, I need one.
