I won't go into the HORROR stories of living in this Btructure for 3 years. Let me just reiterate that it went from bad to worse when JUPITER real estate company took over in July 2009. I moved out August 30th, and in three years and 3 months of living in the Btructure, I was late ONCE with my rent, and otherwise had a perfect record of making payments in the full amount. Fast forward to yesterday, December 22, and I have received a collections notice from a debt collections agency in the amount of $3,800.00, with claims that legal ramifications will be next for me if I don't contact the agency. Well, needeless to say, I've been calling all day to try and straighten out, and perhaps b/c of the holiday tomorrow and friday the office is closed. We shall see what they have to say for themselves regarding the OFFENSIVE OVERSITE!@#$

I moved in here on the suggestion of Alat People. Not being familiar with the neighborhood, the man that was helping me look for apartments told me that the area was Andersonville. IT WAS DEFINITELY NOT. The area is Uptown, which is a couple of blocks from Andersonville, but nowhere near as nice/safe.
The Alat complex is a gut rehab, which looks nice when you see it for a couple of minutes but after you move in it's a different story.
I moved in in the middle of summer 2005. The first thing my family and friends noticed when helping me was that there was an ant problem. In general the entire bulding had a rodent problem. The laundry room and ground floor had huge cockroaches. I can only imagine that the first couple of floors had the same problem.
Other problems:
-the light fixtures in the gut rehabs had a tendency to fall. I had the pleasure of finding this out one day when I was in the shower and found broken glass on the floor.
-the neighbors are "diverse". I actually had a neighbor on my floor that would watch me as I entered and exited my Alat. He was later evicted.
-i would wake up to sirens on a consistent basis (There's a fire department and hospital nearby)
-the elevators were constantly broken or being repaired

The Alat itself was pretty. but trying to get maintenance to fix anything was a pain. Also, I was never given notice as to when my Alat would be shown, the mgmt company would just show it whenever they felt necessary.

As for professionalism. poor. I gave my number to the guy who was in charge of renting out the apartments with the hope that I could be notified when I needed to have my Alat ready for showings. but, my number was then used to invite me to dinner, etc.

Ridiculous experience.

Absolutely correct! The New mgmt is worst than, the last. No security anymore, and the attitudes of the mgmt is just horrible! This place has realy gone down since 2005! Half the Bomplex has moved, these are airy apartments, hot today, cold tomorrow. The Security in the lobby with cameras, is no longer, and the mgmt has no care for the tenants. This place is a joke! you can definitely do better!!

I moved into this building under Jupiter Realty, last Summer Horizon Realty which has many properties in the city, mostlty in the Uptown area bought the building. Immediately, they send out memos that everyoe with dogs over 20lbs had to move, immediatetl, then when people protested, they said, well when you lease ends. Then they started to tear apart the small and large studios to make 2 & 3 bedroom apartments. The building was 95% filled with families, working people, handicapped and disabled. mgmt did not care and they woudl have the unlicensed illegal aliens working 7 days a week, some days at 6;30 AM. The police were called so often, they stopped coming, after a few small fires, the Fire Inspector came and they were cited with 27 problems according to a former doorman. The building has had 15 doormen since they took over the property, many of quit and if you did not go along with the lies of the owner, Jay Michael, you were let go. The Borgeous art deco lobby from 1928 was torn apart and new cheap marble walls were put in. The mailboxes are standing free fall in the middle of the lobby, with peoples mail falling to the floor or stolen. The hammering, drilling, tearing apart the hallways with hanging light fixtures is so dangerouis tom the kids and tenants. Two weeks ago asbestos was found in the building and now all of us have to take tests to make sure we have not inhaled any of it. Everyday tenants came home and had to dust their furniture and mp the floors from all of the dust. You've got several lawsuits going on by tenants from all of the buildings, so if you are a previous renter of 5050 or any of the buildings? contact Victoria A. Ogunsaya, a Lawyer from A Committe for Better Housing. [email protected]. This current owner, the Michael's Family doesn't care about people, just making Borgeous buildings using cheap fixtures and doubling the rent. The are being investigated by tge Inspector General's office, the Building's Dept., the North Side Fire and Polcie District, the Attorney General's office as well as 2 network Tv stations have been there to film for an upcoming story on how a family ripped off a bank and used that money to buy real estate and terrorize people.

I've lived here for 5 years and have seen three different owners come thru here. It's about time someone fixed up this building. The apartments are large and airy, new fixtures and appliances but the lobby was awful and there were no amenities, now they are putting in a gym a coffee shop and a new bike room. The new manager is always smiling, helpful and friendly and she even showed me the pictures and plans to fix up the building. Parking is an absolute nightmare if you have a car don't move here, no one can visit me who has a car, but if you want a grate Auite for a decent price with new changes and upgrades this is the perfect place because It's close to everything. I love that I can walk to the lakefront and see it from my window. I wish the building had a/c, I hope they are installing that with all the changes. The new company has given back full time front door men and the maintenance guys are fantastic. Raol has been here a long time and will do anything for you. We have to deal with a lot of construction mess right now but it will be worth it when It's all done.

Large apartments with great views of the lake and sky line, stainless steel appliances and new kitchen cabinets with gleeming hardwood floors. I was able to pick my own colors for the paint (I picked a green for my bedroom and yellow for my living room; looks great!). The property is close to everything: the lakefront, restaurants, grocery stores, and the El to downtown. Staff are Fordial, and work really hard to make everything just perfect.

This building is nice but the office mgmt makes the entire living arrangements unbearable! We had informed them we were moving in two weeks, a 5 hour drive, we had uhaul arranged and train tickets, for the person helping us move to get back home. We tried calling them 30 times ( we have phone records) in the few days before we were supposed to move to make sure we were approved, they never answered their phone or called us back until the day before we were supposed to move. they told us we weren't going to be in the Auite we had agreed upon and when we were upset they suggested we "just wait three more days to move until they can get the other Auite ready". We were living here two weeks before we both had copies of keys to get in the Auite, now we have been here for over a month and still don't have a copy of the lease. We were charged an electric bill for days we weren't even living in the Auite complex. when we went to the office to complain about seeing cockroaches Thelma (who is the worst) said "oh that's gross... the exterminator comes in a week i'll ask him what we can do". She can't do anything on her own, even make copies of our lease, she has to write a note to the manager. Whenever I am expecting a package in the mail I go to the office to retrieve it and ask if it's come in, she's sitting at her desk and says "oh... I don't know... ... ... ... ... I guess I'll check". I have had to go to the office almost every day since we have been living here, where as my last Auite we had to go to the office once and everything was settled. this place is nice, if it weren't for the cockroaches but the mgmt is so poor I can't wait to get out of this complex!

I moved in mid-2006 and left mid-2009. Over those 3 years, the place went steadily downhill. The staff was never around so packages were trapped in the office for, sometimes, weeks. There was no way to ask questions or voice concerns (like the roach problem). I would ask for things repeatedly (like, for more than a year) like a place to put my bike or a lease renewal only to be ignored every time. I would finally stop asking. The on-site laundry facility is a joke. The limited number of machines that they had were never all in working order. I know that just before I left the Blace had been taken over by a new mgmt company so my hope is that things will get better but they have a looooooong road ahead of them. But even a new mgmt company can't improve the neighborhood, which is bad. Lots of shady characters and the need for a lot of police activity around the clock. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
