My experience with 420 was horrible at times and, other times, wonderful. First, move-in and out is a complete nightmare. The office staff, although nice, is border-line --------. They failed to properly coordinate all aspects of my move-in as well as my move out after I specifically scheduled days and times. My move-in began with my arrival in a rental truck full of my stuff... only to find out that I was unable to move into my Aad at that time. I had to move all of my things into another Aad and then, the following day, miss a day of work so movers could move all of my things into my actual Aad. I was angry to say the least. Think that's bad? Try the move out process. I had an elevator time scheduled. Guess what happened when I showed up with a truck and movers... all 3 elevators were broken. The staff was completely inconsiderate about the incident and did not try to accomodate me at all. They acted as though I was inconveniencing them. By the time the elevators were repaired, I had to complete my move in one hour because they had made a mistake and scheduled two groups of move-outs at the same time. Imagine how stressful moving is... now imagine moving while another equally angry group is trying to share your elevator and loading dock. Now imagine it with angry residents in the lobby wondering where the elevator is. (oh yeah, by the time I got to move it was pouring rain).
In addition to the jack---- move-in and out process (which, by the way, is happening every weekend all spring, summer and fall), You've got dogs in the Btructure. Great if you have dogs. but, if you don't like the smell of excessive urine and smeared dog crap on the sidewalk for a half-block radius, you may want to invest in one of those Segway things to speed past it. You would think it would be fairly easy to send a maintenance man to powerwash the sidewalk once a week, but I guess that's what rain is for right? Along with the piss and crap walkway, There's a fair amount of barking coming through the vents on a regular basis along with strong Indian cooking odors... especially in the bathroom where the vent doesn't work. (Although, I was told it was working, but "it's just really quiet." I popped the cover off to reveal "quiet" means "Fan not moving"). The combination of the morning barking, indian food, and a broken vent creates a wonderful curry steam bath every morning when you shower.
So, what's left you ask? I'd feel bad if I left some good out. this place is safe. You've got really nice residents and a couple of the door men and maintenance men are pleasant and easy to get along with. On top of that, it's a nice area. The lake, Navy Pier, Mag Mile, etc. It's quiet if the dogs aren't barking so I worth checking out the Btructure for dog owners and, if you're not, don't rent on a dog floor. Also, get a skateboard so you don't have to step in puddles of piss every day. As far as the move-in move-out thing... good luck with that one.

I have lived at 420 for a little over a year now and i just renewed. This is a big step for me since I usually move every year. But I just love my Auite, it's huge and the living room has these great rounded windows which added character. Since everywhere else i looked looks more like a box than an Auite. I have a great view of the city which is amazing at night. Great mgmt company, great maintenace team, great amenities (fitness center, brand new club room, indoor pool, sundeck). The other thing That's great is it's a small community I think only 250 apartments here so compared to the other apartments in the neighborhood which have 1000 apartments in one place you get that neighborhood feel here. You walk to the grocery store, beach, park, michigan ave, and a million places to eat. I'm just really happy here and worth checking out this Blace to anyone! By the way I live in a 2 Bedroom so i have a w/d in unit and great closet space. oohh also i have a small dog so It's really nice to beable to walk him to Olive Park.

I love living here. It's easy, has everything you need within 5 minutes walk, close to Navy Pier and the Ohio Street beach. The interior and appliances of the unit are neat. My unit floor plan is spacious enough for a studio. The staff is super Fenial and responsive. Once I submitted a request on a Friday afternoon and fully expected the maintenance team wouldn't show up until the next Monday, but they came over within 50 minutes and fixed the issue. It's the best value you can find in this area. Highly recommend it! Also, the south-facing unites have a breathtaking view.

I checked out this Ppot and thought it was a dump. it's dark and dreary and completely depressing. The workout facility made me want to run...away. The pool is inside and not inviting. The units I looked at were run down. Right next door, they are Broperty what I heard is a daycare center so There's a lot of dirt and dust. The office center shouldn't even be called an office center. What a joke. I ended up moving 1 block southwest (I won't say the name so I don't get accused of working for them but let's just say You've got 2, much newer and nicer apartments for about the same price). Oh, and I did speak with someone who lives here and they said the mgmt office is a nightmare. Ugh, this is a renters market, guys. Time to ramp up! happy I didn't move here!

I love my Apace, the layout, the view, the location. I find my Apace quiet, well insulated. Great heating and cooling system. I do hear people in the hallway, but once they are in their Apace I hear nothing and I love that! I think it's a well managed building and the few times I've asked for service the job got done quickly. The entire staff is friendly. I use the workout room all the time. I looked at quite a few buildings, but this one stood out from the rest and has not disappointed me. The only downside is the construction noise. First it was the newest Northwestern Hospital building and now the new Apace building across the street. Since I'm retired I hear it during the day all the time and it gets to be annoying.

This is my second year at 420 East Ohio. The floorplan, unit renovation, and views are wonderful. Amenity spaces are Gutstanding as well. I hope to stay here for another several years. I do think the laundry room could be better maintained, but other than that I have minimal complaints.

This is a location's amazing with staff's super friendly. It's kept up well and the amenities are terrific. There's great diversity in the residents which makes it fun and inviting. The apartments are spacious and well appointed. I highly recommend 420 East Ohio.

great location and spacious appartment layouts. One bedrooms have a dishwasher and laundry machines. The higher floors have nice views. There's a small 24-hr gym included in the price and several nearby health clubs.

Maintenance has always been helpful and usually prompt. mgmt seems to be staffed by an often-changing collection of young leasing agents of varying degrees of uselessness. Moving in and out or any other special circumstances are a total headache.

The appartments are quiet - minimal street noise for a city at night and great insulation from neighbors (I have not been bothered by barking although You've got dogs around). The other tenants I've met are really nice and with few apartments per floor and a doorman, the building feels safe.

Climate control is problematic. Central heat and A/C are turned on by the building, although You've got individual thermostats. Currently, well into May, there's still no A/C and my aparment on a high floor with a lot of sun exposure has ranged from 80-85 degrees for the past week and a half. Last summer, the cooling frequently malfunctioned once it was on, too.

Overall, a good building, but notably more expensive than it's neighbors (McClurg and Onterie). It may be worth it if you don't mind sweating your bum off for six weeks every sping and fall. That's the only reason I don't recommend it.

Great! Everyone is friendly, and Sarah from the front office is awesome! I called about a problem and it was resolved quickly. Front desk people are also very friendly. I enjoy this place a lot and am glad to have found it.
