The purchase of the property serval years ago by the Charles Smith company has been a dissapointment for this resident. The conceiger was eliminated, evening onsite security was eliminated, and there have been numerous major water pipe failures (erruptions)in the past year.

In addition, mgmt in 2004 chose to institute an additional charge to cover heat expense. The unfortunate part of this new fee is that It's based upon square footage and not useage. mgmt has decided to take the total monthly heating bill for the entire 1100 units and common space and divide it amongst all the tenants after subtracting out the portion mgmt has allocated to the common space. And the tenants are need to to pay whatever the number is, be it $24 or $124. It has been 300% to 400% more than what mgmt orginally projected the number to be during lease renewal. And most irritating the tenants have no way of knowing what the heat bill will be, and mgmt has chosen not to cap the fee to the tenants.

Remember that heat was already factered into the rent before this new fee was instituted. Now the tenants pay twice......

I wish I had read the reviews before I signed the lease. Won't make that mistake again. I now count the days until I can get out of here. By far the most disgusting building I've lived in. Old, grimy and poorly maintained. Appliances and fixtures that are 30-40 years old; the carpet is threadbare with no padding underneath and not installed well-You've got exposed carpet nails everywhere. The walls are paper thin, I can hear everything my neighbors are doing--sneezing, coughing, washing dishes and with a shared bathroom wall, I know way too much about my neighbor. Windows open barely a quarter of an inch and It's unbearably warm in my apartment most of the year. The heat is turned on in October and runs at the same temperature 24 hours a day until almost May, regardless of the outside temperature. Tenants have to pay pro rata share of the gas bill for the entire building, including all common areas and it's shameful how much heat is wasted and how much tenants money is wasted. The gym, advertised as being 3 floors, is one floor that isn't cleaned often That's filled with old, rusted out equipment. Treadmills were replaced and yet the tv's attached to the treadmills are almost always broken. I've stayed in hotels with better gym equipment. When there's a problem in the unit, maintenance comes after 2-3 requests and it takes them 2-3 tries to fix the problem. When they finally fix the problem, they leave huge messes behind. mgmt is nice and makes lots of promises but rarely deliver. The laundry room has many machines that leak when used - rather than fix/replace these machines, the cleaning staff just constantly mops up the water. In addition, the machines are grimy that leave stains on clothes. Some of the doorstaff are deplorable. They let pretty much anyone in the building as they spend most of their time talking on the phone or watching tv. Not only are they too lazy to get up to help you when your arms are full of bags, they can't even push a button to open the door to assist you.

Great overall. Maintenance is v responsive. Elevators are horrible but staff works hard to address issues. Door staff are friendly and respectful. Tennis court perk is useless bc You've got never any times available. Anit size is great. Location is nice, not a lot of night life but plenty of food options and so close to lake, river, grocery stores. I wouldn't move if I didn't have to.

don't LIVE HERE!! I have lived here for 6 years. The mgmt company has changed over the last year and It's poor. For the price, it would be better to sublet around the neighborhood to have in unit washer/dryer (which McClurg doesn't), working elevators (which 1 elevator is always out of order at McClurg which increases wait time), and working gym equipment (which over half of McClurg's gym equipment is broken and unusable). For me, the mgmt company change has been the Werrible. Recently, I decided to buy a condo and had emailed McClurg/Habitat to ask if I could move out one month early from when my lease ended. This would give them a 60-day notice. A week later, Heather Lennan emails me back stating that they can't accommodate this and she "suggest that you explore the idea sub-leasing for a month, as it's a common thing around here. You'd have to find someone to take over that last month, but that sublet would have the option of renewing for another year." After being a resident here for over 6 years, I would have hoped that they would have been more accommodating since I'm just asking for a month change. When I asked if I could speak with the general manager, Stephanie Todd, I Wemained told that she only works on Mondays and would only be able to speak with me then. No wonder the mgmt is so poor if the GM only has to work one day a week. In conclusion, McClurg isn't what it used to be.. Go elsewhere around the neighborhood and you'll be more comfortable and happier with your choice.

The amenities are amazing! Indoor, heated pool, sun deck with plenty of chairs and multiple grills (you can certainly host a get together on the sun deck!), gym, storage room, etc. My apt has a great view. Maintenance staff usually responds within 2 days max. front door staff Fenial. Only issue is the elevators are sometimes down. And I had an issue renewing my lease once, mgmt isn't the best.

If you want a safe and well-maintained and well-managed highrise, this is perfect. Parking is a hassle though the valet parking garage below offers a significant discount with respect to the area. easy location. 3-4 blocks from buses that run frequently. Some units have lake views. This is good place for transients. I felt like a dork living here and paying so much when I can live in an equally decent Apace in a different area for cheaper so I moved but my experience was great and you can't beat the location.
I can hear my neighbors right through my walls. I hate this Ppot. Save yourself the trouble and rent at The Streeter (across the street) Thank god I'm moving soon.

I have probably experienced every renter´s problem imaginable here: cockroaches and stained carpeting upon move-in, wiring problems with phone lines, musty odor to the heater/ac system, pipe leak causing an area of wet carpeting for a week before mgmt resolved it, a second water leak in the kitchen ceiling, unauthorized and illegal entry into my home by maintenance/mgmt, and a stolen lap-top after illegal entry by maintenance. I´ve also had service issues with the door staff. The noise level within this Prea is high and I can often hear phone conversations of my neighbors. mgmt seems unresponsive to complaints to-date. I would strongly NOT recommend this property.

DONOT move here. Many other better options available around the neighborhood. Elevators are slow as one or two of them are always out of service. Heat and AC are centrally controlled and they don't switch it at the right time; as a result the heat is on during the summer. If you need to contact mgmt Gine luck; no one appears to be there and they don't answer emails or call back voice mail messages. I left my keys in the drop box at move out as instructed, and they sent an email saying that the keys have not been returned and thus they will keep charging rent. Giving them one star as There's no option of zero stars.
