The building allows owners to smoke, even in the hallways, which gives the entire building the feel of a cheap bar. There are certain floors that have no ventilation and smell all the time of second-hand smoke.

I rented here for 3 years, my rent was much cheaper than most places in the area (1050/mo) so that's why I stayed. I had a junior one bedroom, the size approx 650 squre feet. I liked the location of the apt buliding close to downtown and where I worked, you do hear a lot of ambulances since the hospital is one block away. Negatives: Biggest negative for me was moving into and out fo this building. They are extremely uptight about when you can move and will fine you for the slightest things and require a move in/move out fee and security depositi for the elevator. YOU CANNOT MOVE ON A WEEKEND! There is NO LOADING DOCK. There is this ramp you have to go up and down when you are moving in/out which makes moving a huge hassle. While the doormen are pretty nice, the people who own condo's here are extremely ---- and will fine you for everything! Its an old building so often there are problems where they will shut off the water or will be working on something or the other. Overall it was good for me for the price but if you are not getting a deal on rent like I was, I think there are much better places to rent/buy in the area!

We looked all over before picking this building, and it was well worth the effort. While all our friends were in tiny convertibles or 1 bedrooms with tiny living rooms for the same money, we had an entryway/dining room open to a huge 20x16 living room. Great when other places were making us claustrophobic. The net result is a huge open feeling that goes from the door all the way to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Get a south-facing view (the even numbered units) and you can look left to see Navy Pier and the fireworks twice a week without leaving your condo. We were in an 02 unit, and the fireworks framed up perfectly between the buildings on the way to the lake. Also, the 03 and 04 units are only 725 or so square feet, like most 1BR condos, compared to the massive ~875 of the 01,02,05, and 06 units. We picked on space and the open feeling of it, since there was nothing available for the money with similar size. The other stuff just ended up working out, like the fireworks, and the quiet. The 24 hour doorman and the upscale hotel-oriented area is so comforting that it makes moving to a house in a small town seem almost unsafe. Parking is rough, but we didn't even need a car, we left it in the suburbs. CTA is pretty good, and an entire smaller city worth of stores is packed into walking distance anyway. When your out-of-town friends come, ask the doorman about the discount parking stickers for the garage on the next block. Get your groceries delivered and you never have to leave the building. Or walk a few blocks to the beach and Navy Pier, or 2 blocks the other way to the Mag Mile. The odd thing is that the doors have almost 0 sound insulation effect, so you can hear people in the halls, and when you're in the halls, you can hear if people are talking loud or playing music. But if you go back into the apt, you hear nothing. Odd, but we were glad it's not the other way around. There are so many little things that can turn out bad with an apt, but we got lucky I guess and things turned out better than expected. If we got the chance to move back to Chicago, I'd definitely try to get in the building again.

230 E. Ontario is a condo building owned and managed by the condo owner´s association. Rentals are only available from owners who have decided to rent out their units. The building has a combination of one bedrooms and "convertables". All units have a "sunk-in" living room/bedroom design. There is a outdoor pool and sundeck on the roof (28th floor) which is open during the summer months. 24-hr doorman. Laundry facilities. Newly remodeled lobby. Central heat & air. Cable TV. Excercise room. The building is friendly and generally quiet. IDEAL location - just 2 blocks east of Michigan Ave. in Chicago´s beautiful Streeterville neighborhood. Ideal for students or professionals who work or attend college in the area who don´t need/want to own a car. <br> <br>Rentals may be pricey because of special assessments to repair the building´s masonery exterior - a $2 million project that was completed 2 years ago. Parking in this area is VERY expensive.
