I've lived in Chicago for ten years. I've lived at 1400 N. Lake Shore Drive for the last four years. This Bomplex is incredible. Quiet, classy, staff's super Farm and tennants. The lobby is great to show off for visitors. The sun deck is also impressive. I live in a studio and it's comfortable. I've had friends over for movie nights and they are always impressed with this vintage Bomplex. Also, it's close enough to the hot spots to walk to, but far enough off the beaten path to provide a quiet place to live. I love it here.

AND they have the NERVE to be asking $1340 for a 1 bedroom? UN-believable. If you rent here, you're nuts. Start with the Aad -- the hardwood floors are gouged by deep scratches, the corners of the floors are rotting. The paint is uneven and mismatched and looks like it's about a half inch thick from merely slapping layer over layer, for god knows how long. The bathroom is disgusting, with peeling paint and some sort of rust-growth in the soap dish. The kitchen, circa 1940, is a mess. Outdated (no microwave, no garbage disposal) --small, dark, depressing and uninviting -- the doors don't close properly -- and a naked light fixture swings from a hole in the ceiling. On and on. What should Rruly make you run for the hills is the staff. The desk people -- one woman in particular -- are aggressively rude. Lots and lots of attitude. The office people, when you describe the conditions of the place, sit there with a thousand-yard stare and absolutely refuse to apologize for ANYTHING. I can't WAIT to get out of here.

I moved to 1400 N. Lake Shore near the end of 2005, and wasn't told of the construction that was due to begin. They bait you with a rooftop deck as one of the amenities. Hopefully you know someone with pictures of it, as It's and has been closed for renovation. won't be available for summer. Awesome. The lady who rented me the Alat was friendly while we were touring the building, but has not responded to any complaints. The hallways are torn apart with large hole in the walls, and the ceiling has been ripped out, thus leaving unsightly remnants. don't waste your money. They don't care about the renters, just about selling condos. STAY AWAY! don't let the nice lobby fool you! Construction is loud and begins at 7 am daily. STAY AWAY! I wish I had!

The staff has always been friendly, maintenance has been quick, mgmt sometimes is hard to find, but a simply phone call seemed to be returned quickly.

I have have another friend move into the Besidence, and she loves the place too. The Sundeck has a wounderful view of Navy Peir and Lake Michigan.

This Blace is going condo so things should improve when the present mgmt turns in it's keys. This place is poorly maintained, over run with disrespectful students that are part of some strange studinet housing program, not at all what I expected when i moved in here. They promise the world when they want you to sign a lease but as soon as you get your key they treat you like public enemy number one. Maintence requests get ignored for weeks, it's obvious that with new owners coming in no one really cares about this place right now.

I moved here in August and was so excited. It seemed like a location's amazing and I still think the price for what I got was reasonable. but, at the time I moved in no one told me the building was going to condos. It has been under constant construction for the past two months. I get woken up every morning by rude construction workers in the hall outside my Auite. mgmt refuses to do anything about the situation and have basically told me to deal with it. I am currently in the process of trying to get out of my lease so I can move out of here.

It's hard to book the elevator to get out of dodge, between the contruction and all the people lining up to get out of here. I'm not sure what the new owner is thinking but it's obvious he doesn't want people to live here. I feel bad for the few people who have bought these apartments because they are ruining them here. the so called electrical improvements have huge fuse boxes that you bang into and metal pipe running everywhere that they plan to leave that way for monthes until they rip up the rest of the Apace with whatever they have planned. No one can tell you anything about when this happens, they just show up with the demolition crew and mess up your place. The work is sloppy and getting worse as they go along, no one speaks english, so you can't even ask a question. They don't take a security deposit so there doesn't seem to be any problem with screaming asbestos and moving out. Astor House around the corner seems more than willing to take us in and treat us like normal people!

Beautiful building from outside, but horribly neglected interior. People who run the building obviously don´t understand that mold growing in the apartments is BAD! And my neighbors apartment flooded a couple of times. poor condition, but priced as though they are in mint condition!!

Hi. I would like to give a good review of this building. You've got people that absolutely love this place. A couple that has an older son and live on 9th floor swear by this building and have lived here for over 5 years i think, a man on 5 loves this place as well but a lady on 5 HATES IT.The Family on 9 won out and i moved in! In fact they talked me into it. I can see why they like it but You've got also things we don't like. The store isn't worth the price and i wont go in there for anything. In Fact most of my neighbors go across the street to get there "emergency" food and drink. It`s hard to get help when you need it, Mainly in the evening, even to do the simplest things. Other than that... it`s a awesome spot to live. beautiful views,Nice apartments, good people and they allow pets. Well There's one more dislike but that seems to be taken care of. There was a lady who owned a pet shop if you can call it that. It s now closed and most of us in this building could not be happier! It seems the only person or persons that give this lady the time of day are a FEW people that work here but my guess is that it`s the money she spent. I don't know that for a fact but honestly, cant think of any other reason. I have a Little dog, i wont name which kind because if mgmt reads this they will know its me. Its a little White dog That's curly. some of ou may know who i am by that. We went into the shop even though people told us not too. Anyhow, our first impression was horrible. It was winter and we just brought our little dog in. It was like 40 degrees this day and this lady tells us all dogs should where coats, sweaters and shoes. That's insane. she rambled on for an hour!!!! WE walked about and she told us it was going to be our problem (that's the exact words she used) we left worried so we went to our vet to ask them. We found a close one called Gold Coast Animals or something like that, they said she was ridiculous! Most dogs don't need a coat even when it`s 0 outside. They usually have strong skin and double fir and unless they are indoor dogs in warm rooms there whole lives There's NO need for coats. Then she said they need shoes. I asked the vet and he said that when There's salt they need shoes the most to keep the salt from their pads. We have another dog walker in the building (NO NAMES) although i think they mostly quit to give this lady a fighting chance (GOOD LUCK) and asked them to and they said almost the same exact thing as the vet said. I went and said something to this lady after, just in case she was honestly mistaken and she got mean and defensive about it. She wont even look in my drection which is just fine by me!!! Sorry for the long posting but that really rubbed me the wrong way. A Beautiful place like this doesn't need some lady acting like that. Heck, her business was never open anyways. I hope she doesn't come back in business. I Love the workout room, the laundry facilities are great and the lobby is to die for.The roof Tp deck is Great. I wish there was no alcahol allowed because sometimes it becmes a frat party but you can`t have everthing you want. mgmt is Great and some of the people that work at the desk are good. You've got a couple of fix it guys that are fast and good. I think one is named victor and the other is Bert or something like that. They fixed a leak in my Alat quickly and did not bother me at all. Thanks. All together i would say this is a building i would like to live in for a long time. Thanks to the family that talked me into it (you know who you are) and thanks to the owners for doing all this great work on this property.
