My neighbors have been Gantastic, no problems there. Whenever something breaks, the maintenance team responds quickly and gets it fixed. I set up automatic payments from my bank account for rent, which makes things easy. The proximity to the Green Line is a big reason I plan to stay here longer.

Jesus Christ... I don't even know where to start. 1. Don't be fooled by the name "Oak Park." Everyone knows Oak Park is a decent neighborhood, but this apartment complex is located exactly on the boarder of Oak Park and next to the ------. That means homeless, gangbangers and drug addicts are marching around your apartment all day like the zombie apocalypse, and don't be surprised if bullets start flying right in front of your apartment. 2. The entire complex has only two washers and two dryers, and occasionally one or two of them are out of order. This means stay in line if you ever decided to take care of your laundry. The laundry "room" is located in the basement which looks like a haunted house. One day I opened the door and saw two men sitting on the dryers smoking marijuana. 3. The apartment complex has limited parking spots to offer, and they charge $100+/month for them. This requires you to end up parking in the street. Oak Park is famous for having parking problems. They give tickets all the time to people who have no choice other than to park on the street. I've paid over several thousands on parking tickets living in this complex this year. 4. The mgmt is incredibly nosy, annoying, judgmental, accusatory and disrespectful. They constantly look into your personal life which I found annoying and disrespectful. Every maintenance guy who walks into your place is also a scout for the mgmt. I was accused of smoking inside of my apartment, listening to music loud, and other -------- that were not true. 5. Rule of thumb: when you go cheap you have cheap neighbors. I was fortunate to have a psychopath living downstairs. 6. Some of the gangbangers live in the complex 7. This place is OLD. There's absolutely no isolation in the doors, windows and between floors. That means when you walk you make noise. When you talk you make noise. When you cook you make odors, etc. The stairway is the worse part, it always stinks. It's a combination of marijuana, cigarettes and cooking nasty foods. ALWAYS! 8. During winters the mgmt will treat you like "Uncle Scrooge in the Christmas Carol." They have radiators in the apartments for heating and I swear to people will freeze you to death to make money. 9. There's no A/C for Summer. You need to buy at least one and hang it out of your window. I would say you need two. 10. Again this place is OLD. You will probably end up calling maintenance many times for different reasons. (Leaking, broken, not working, etc.)

AVOID THIS PLACE. The Auite manager is incredibly rude and NASTY, acting like they have a terrible attitude. I could say much harsher things, but I'm trying to be respectful. I can't recommend living here. I hope this property closes down.

My boyfriend and I moved into the building at the intersection of Lake Street and Elmwood (126 N. Elmwood) and we are thrilled with how It's a solid building It's. The walls appear to be concrete and are quite substantial (mounting shelves proved to be tough), which means we enjoy great soundproofing from adjacent units. The Alat features approximately 14 windows and receives abundant natural light throughout the year. There's no AC system, so you'll need to install a window unit during summer months. Each room is equipped with a fan, and despite being an older structure, this place is maintained to a high standard. Parking is quite limited, but that's a characteristic of Oak Park rather than a building issue. The mgmt team has consistently been courteous and responsive, with maintenance workers regularly present maintaining the property and grounds. When the front entrance window broke, it was repaired within just 2 days—their turnaround was impressive. We've experienced almost no pest problems (only occasional spiders and ladybugs). Aside from parking, my only other grievances involve laundry and hot water. Water is complimentary, though the temperature fluctuates somewhat. Usually You've got brief moments of extreme cold or heat, but there have been one or two occasions when the changes were significant enough that I had to step out of the shower. It's a minor inconvenience, though. The laundry facilities are downstairs, and being on the 3rd floor (with no elevator), hauling laundry down is quite a trek. Some dryers underperform, and you'll occasionally spot oriental cockroaches/water bugs near the drains. They're often already dead, suggesting the mgmt does pest control, but they're still unpleasant to see. They don't venture upstairs, so they've never appeared in our unit. For the cost, we got a spacious Alat in a peaceful, well-maintained building. They're incredibly accommodating with pets (we have a 75 pound German shepherd) and the mgmt is attentive and friendly. Located just 2 blocks from transit and shopping, it's an ideal neighborhood. If Oak Park's parking situation doesn't deter you, I'd strongly endorse this building or any other Oak Park Alat properties!
