We moved into the Fisher Blace over a year ago when we first moved back to Chicago. We were concerned how our 8 yr old daughter would like it, but she loved living in the city! We were right next door the the largest public library in the world, a few blocks from Grant Park and Millennium Park and walking distance to Museum Campus (if you like to walk!) Public transportation (never needed a car) was a breeze with most of the Els stopping right next door including the Blue - O'Hare, Orange - Midway, and Red - Wrigley and Cellular Field. Busses were also easy and both Metra stations a 10 minute walk. An added bonus was that facing East we overlooked State street so she had a bird's eye view of parades and festivities. Loved the Blace, the staff was Farm and legit and it was a good experience for my daughter while we were there.

Words couldn't Express how I feel about residing in the Fisher community. It just feels like home. The mgmt team is great. The concierge team is awesome. this place is surrounded by all transit routes so traveling with CTA is no problem with work. Its just about Pdeal.

I read other comments at this site before I decided to move in. My plan was, if I don´t have to deal with the mgmt office much then I shouldn´t have many problems. Now that I´ve been here for a few months, I´m wondering what all the complaining at this site is about.

The building manager has always been polite to me, I have no complaints about her. She was friendly during my lease signing for obvious reasons (be rude during a lease signing and watch me change my mind about moving in) but during that I talked with her and asked questions to get a feel for her personality, and she doesn´t seem like the kind of manager who absolutely doesn´t care about her tenants. (No I don´t work for the Fisher Building, I´m just relaying my honest experiences.)

About the noise level: Yes, There's a lot of outdoor noise. OF COURSE There's, this place is located in the Loop! I can´t believe anyone but the supremely naive would visit this building and then move in thinking there would be no outdoor noise. It´s right next to the Library el station so yes, you will hear the el even when your windows are shut. You will hear sirens from police, ambulance and fire trucks too, and other traffice noises. You´ll hear various city noises. If you´re not good at tuning out outdoor noise then this isn't the building for you. but if you are good at tuning it out, and especially if you´ve lived downtown before like I have so you know what noise level to expect, then you´ll do just fine here.

If you´re new to the city or you´ve never lived downtown, I suggest you hang out around the area at night to get a feel for the noise level. If you´re female, know that You've got guys who hang around begging for money (once again, this is the Loop, not Lincoln Park). I´ve never had problems with any of them myself but it´s something to be aware of.

As for noise from the neighbors, I haven´t heard much but then I have a corner unit. I almost never hear noise from upstairs. I moved here from a loft Anit that had no sound insulation between floors and ceilings, so I heard every single little thing my upstairs neighbors did, right down to dropping keys on the floor and slamming kitchen cabinets and drawers, and phone conversations. I no longer have that problem since moving here. I´ll take the el´s noise over noise from upstairs any day.

Parking: There's none. This doesn´t concern me because I don´t own a car. (Why own a car when I live and work downtown?)

Maintenance: I´ve only requested maintenance once and gave the okay for them to enter while I was at work. They left a notice on the door to let me know what time they were there and whether or not they´d have to come back the next day. So no problems or complaints from me there.

Rent: It´s not cheap. I do think we pay too much to live here, especially since no utilities are included. Then again, this is a renovated historic landmark building and the units are nicely outfitted. Other places I´ve rented had cheap appliances in the kitchen. Now I have a garbage disposal that actually works, a nice fridge with a good sized freezer, and a dishwasher (that´s only 2 years old) that, lo and behold, actually cleans dishes!

Parts of the floor in my unit are on a slant, but I noticed that when I came to see it so I knew about it before I signed the lease, so I can´t really complain much. You've got no screens on any of the windows, otherwise the building would lose its official historic landmark status. I never open my windows because I have a cat who could fall out, plus You've got always wasps flying around the windows and I don´t want them getting inside. You can get a temporary expandable screen from someplace like Home Depot to put in the window if having no permanent screen is a problem.

Aside from outside and maybe from next door, a source of noise is the common hallways. The building halls are wide and tall, and the floors are mosiac tile. Noise travels easily in the halls. My unit has its own little "foyer" hallway between the front door and the rest of the Anit, which traps the noise from the hallway outside, so I rarely hear it. I never hear it from my bedroom. In my kitchen, which is just off that foyer, I can hear the barking dog owned by the guy who lives all the way down at the other end of the hallway.

The neighbors are friendly. Building mgmt has held several get-together party type events for tenants. The front desk concierge people are helpful. The building´s location is perfect if you rely on public transportation: every el line is within a 2-5 minute walking distance, and You've got many buses you can catch around here. So far, I really enjoy living here and I have no major complaints.

First off the location and building are wonderful. It's some of Burnaham's best work and There'sn't a more ideal location if you plan on getting around Chicago without a car. The only problems are due to the mgmt company, Village Green. And the only major problem is something they did years after I moved out: Three and a half years after I moved out of there I received a letter from the Hunters Warfield debt collection agency asking for $118.04 and listing the creditor as Fisher Building. I had never gotten a bill or heard anything from Fisher Building about any extra bill in those years after moving out, and have no idea what it could be for. I called Fisher Building and asked the manager if it was actually from them and what it could possibly be about. She confirmed right away it was probably really from Fisher Building (She did not sound surprised, as if they did this all the time.) , but said she "legally could not talk about anything they sent for collections." I let her know that I had volunteered at a legal clinic that dealt with this kind of thing for years, and that I know that simply isn't true. The original creditor can always pull the debt back from an agency and deal with it themselves, and there was absolutely no possible legal reason for her not to explain what I was being charged for. She said, "well I was told I shouldn't talk about it." I'll try to get an explanation out of Hunter's Warfield about what this is based on and get them to stop contacting me. But, if it's anything like the agency's I dealt with for clients at the legal clinic, it won't be easy, and there will still probably be a bad entry on my credit report even after it's cleared up. Meanwhile I'm getting multiple automated phone calls each day. I always paid everything on time at Fisher and left the Alat in pristine condition (never hung anything on the walls and even waxed the floor before I left). I have no clue why they did this. Any other problems with Fisher Building are small by comparison. The trash rooms get ridiculous sometimes. Also, your HVAC bill is based on an equal share of the entire building's HVAC. So even if you had the AC off in your unit all month because you can open the windows and it was nice out, you'll still be stuck with a $200 HVAC bill that month. The only major issue is the mgmt company's outrageous behavior in charging me for something and not letting me know till 3 and a half years later, and still not letting me know what the charge was for.

Charming building with a remarkably friendly and staff actually helps. I lived on the 17th floor (nice view!) for one year while attending business school, and I loved it. One of the amazing features of location-wise, it's how easily accessible It's by public transportation. You can get to any other part of the city from the trains and buses leaving from this block. The building itself is absolutely Btunning one of the most elegant examples of a 19th-century highrise in the city. I enthusiastically recommend The Fisher Building to anyone, and frankly, I'm a little suspicious of the negative reviews on here, because I really loved the place.

Everyone is nice but there a a good amount of things that need fixing in my Aad if you move here make sure not to go on a floor next to the train it's extremely loud and people are fighting at all hours of the night

Great Alat especially for college students. Safe building and 24 hr concierge to keep them safe in the big city. Affordable, fantastic location and several different floor plans to choose from.
