You do get what you pay for. Rent is relatively affordable if you compare it to other buildings on this block and most of the tenants here do seem normal and have a proper job or is a student. You wouldn't see a sketchy crowd of guys hanging around the front of the building, as you would at many other buildings along Sheridan. Pro is the location.. you have the 147, 136 and 151 stopping in front of the building..and the red line is only a 5 mins walk. Another good thing is the lake view if your apartment happens to be facing east. That's pretty much it. The place is run down.. old appliances in the kitchen and antique fixtures in the bathroom. Doors and window frames and walls are painted over like a hundred times. Bugs screeen are all warped and are pretty useless. I talked to mgmt and they said "yeah.. this is a old building and the screens are all warped". They solved the bug issue by sealing the screen to the window frame with caulking which means you won't be able to remove the screens anymore to clean the outerface of the windows (not a big problem if the building didn't have that much bugs and spiders.. but because this building has a lot of insects .. my windows are covered in spider web now). Working.. but old elevator, grimy hallways and grimy elevator lobbies. The ground floor looks alright thou I do have to say.. so if you are just coming to get your friend or spending a few mins in the lobby on ground floor, you probably would think this is a pretty nice place. Especially since the rest of the apt buildings near sheridan / foster and sheridan / thorndale are crap. Heat is a big issue in winter.. it says free heat and all but truth is my apt is always cold. The single paned glass windows with a gap on all four sides certainly didn't help. You pretty much have to turn on your own space heater all the time and dress in layers even at home.

location's amazing and great views Apace will come with mice , roaches and terrible elevators that are always being fixed, they have decent maintenance people who work here to put bandaids on the problems a bit the owner of the Besidence won’t renovate or put money back into the Besidence what so ever .

I have lived here for 6 months and have nothing but a Gonderful experience. The Manager has been nothing but accommodating and the two times I needed something fixed, it was done within 24 Hours. The staff is extremely helpful and Fospitable, never had an issue with them. The best part is location, to me location is everything. I am a true city dweller as to where I completely rely on CTA for everything. I am not one to ask anyone to drive me anywhere unless It's absolutely needed. You have the 151, 147 and 146 Sheridan Routes, and the Red Line is 2 blocks away. There's a plethora of restaurants in Andersonville, Argyle Street is a short walk away, you have a Domenicks, Jewel and Walgreens within walking distance. Target is a 7 minute bus ride on the 84. So if you want all of this, then move in, you won't be dissatisfied.

The old apt had so many issues and Maintenance team is one of the worst. They will charge you for door locks not functioning properly, they'll take sweet time to come fix anything and usually they'll go into your unit without notifying you in advance. They will end up saying it was emergency for plumbing issues etc. If you decide to move in, I'd recommend you invest in security cameras in your unit. The only people I liked in this place were door man & women who left few months before I left. Moreover, the mgmt barley cared about most issues. Roach problem, roof leaks, among many other issues is the reasons is why I decided to move out. Location was great, but the people who worked in the apt were the reason, me along many residents decided to move in

Absolute worst apartment building I have ever lived in. Parking is hard to find unless you want to walk about 10 minutes. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. And since the shape of this place is like a W you can hear people from across the court yard from you if they are being loud. The apartment looks nice and landscaped but 1 elevator is constantly going out of service and the security isn't there. There's a door person but most of the time they are off smoking. The one late night a bum was sleeping behind one of the trees INSIDE the first set of doors. I waited 1 hour for the doorman to show up so I could let them know but they never showed up. Also I used a wrong key to get into the back enterance and the wrong key worked to get in after wiggling it around for a minute. You've got no lights in the bedroom except for the closet light and the string breaks off super easy. Maintenance was of normal speed but exterminators were hard to come by. There was a super bad roach problem for about 4 months during my lease. They came and sprayed only once a month. mgmt looked at us funny when we said that we stilled had roaches. It got so bad we had to call the corporate company in order for them to spray something more powerful and that didn't even help. Don't get me started about the staff! We had no problems moving into the apartment but moving out was a nightmare! They started asking me 1 week before my lease was over when I would have my stuff out of the apartment. We we started moving out stuff out we had parked in the front. The doorman told me to park in the garage so I did. Then the second I got in the garage he said I could not park there but to park in the back because there was a furniture delivery. 20 minutes later I was able to start moving my stuff only to be told that I had to take the fright elevator to the garage and haul all my stuff up the steep enterance and out the back. Not to mention during my lease I had bought a normal sized couch, had it delivered and was unable to fit it in the small fright elevator or the regular elevator which isn't much smaller than the fright. The only thing I liked about this apartment was there was extra storage on the same floor and the view I had from one of the higher floors. I would never recommend this building to anyone unless you want to over spend for what you get, go on exciting roach killing sprees, or have a headache for the entire term of your lease. Hope this review helps make your decision easier!

It's ok here. It's definitely not the greatest by any means, but not terrible. The staff isn't the best - they really are kinda flighty in my opinion. Getting a lease here is kinda silly, they are for a year minimum, but it has to be by a certain date. Like I moved in in the middle of August, and because it was after the first they basically had my lease starting in January - so it ran 17 months.

I had financial issues and had to move out early, but subleasing is an option. but, the staff and mgmt company wasn't helpful when I went to them more than a month in advance about certain issues.

I never saw roaches (thank God), I did have some gnats though. There's no A/C, and you can't control the heat, so if it gets too hot you open a window, and if It's too cold you get a bit chilly. But for the price you pay, that should be expected as It's decently cheap for Chicago.

And this place is just old overall. I would probably say it used to be hotel waaaaaaaaay back in the day from the way It's set-up, but I'm not for sure.

I would say it's worth it to go look if you need a cheap place FAST, but be prepared to stay for awhile if you sign a lease.

I've been living in my Aad at 5630 N. Sheridan almost 1 year. This is the first place where i live since i moved to USA from Europe. I never had problems because of the bad knowledge of english when i came here. People downstairs in the office always tried to understand me and figure out my problems. All of the stuff that work in this Blace always nice from the cleaning ladies to the property manager. Couple times a week property manager buys donuts for residents. And if during the day you want a cup of coffee you are more than welcome in the office. Nedless to say that when i was new in Chicago Debbie (property manager) always halped me with advice about the city, transport and location of some places. When i have something to fix i got it done veru quicj, within one day. Talkin about roaches... I had this problem when i started to live there, but i asked about extermination and after that they gone. I just renew my lease and i'm not planning to leave this place!

UNHEALTHY ROACH PROBLEM THAT NEVER ENDS, mgmt IS RUDE AND LIARS, THE CLEANING LADIES ARE SO RACIST. NEVER HAD ROACHES UNTIL MOVING HERE AND AT THIS RATE I CAN'T EVEN HAVE GUEST. EVEN THOUGH I AM NEVER LATE AND PAY IN ADVANCE.
