My wife and I moved into Dayton Court Apartments after we got married and loved our time there. The location was a huge plus for us. It was close to many stores, restaurants, and public transportation. Other than the location itself, the experience at Dayton Court was exceptional. The management was great, as they always responded to anything promptly. Getting packages was extremely convenient and painless. Maintenance responded within the same day, if not the day after. The only problems that I can think of were that our apartment was next to a parking garage, thus we heard car alarms go off, but that did not ruin the experience as a whole at all. Other than that, living there with 2 people in a one bedroom was doable, but we needed more room. Overall, the apartment living experience was great. Highly recommended choice of apartment. 5 Stars!

I lived in a 1-br at Dayton Courts for two years, and had a pretty positive experience. Here's what I thought: Pros: - The location is the major selling point of this property. You can walk to practically anything you could possibly want -- any style of restaurant, grocery store, pharmacy, comedy club, movie theater, arcade bar, night club, lakefront, hospital...you name it. And if you can't find what you want nearby, the brown line, red line, and purple line express are just a few minutes away, and the Clark and Halsted buses are literally right outside the gate. My favorite thing about this place is that it is located in this magical spot that is a stone's throw from multiple fun neighborhoods (Lincoln Park, Boystown, Wrigleyville), while in fact its own neighborhood is comparatively calm and quiet. - Safety is not an issue at all. The property is safely gated, and the neighborhood is very low in crime. Not once did I feel unsafe during my two years there. - The courtyard is very quiet and peaceful despite the bustling main road right next to it. It's super convenient to be able to walk out your door and relax in a nice grassy area. - The staff are very friendly and were always willing to help with any concern that I raised. Their attitude really does contribute to a positive living situation. They also store your delivered packages in the office, which is a nice little security measure. - Maintenance requests are processed very quickly (usually the same day). - The financial management was exceptionally reasonable. They raised the rent only $10 from one year to the next, all utilities were included, and the did not charge any stupid fees (move-in fee, move-out damages, security deposit, etc.). They really only charged rent. Cons: - My apartment itself was not very impressive. I lived in a small, dark, sort of weird basement unit by the laundry room with exposed pipes on the ceiling. The view from the windows was of an alley, another alley, and the rear end of a parked car. The place was sort of beat-up -- appliances were old, surfaces of things were moderately chipped and cracked, etc. You could definitely get a much nicer apartment in a less-exciting neighborhood for the same price. On the other hand, you could probably not find a cheaper 1-bedroom in this location. - Maintenance was performed quickly but not very effectively. I had to complain multiple times about pretty serious problems (cold shower water in the winter, leaky gas stove) before they actually got fixed. In fact, the stove never got fixed. I ended up having to shut off the gas supply valve myself to stop the apartment from smelling like gas. Maybe they would have fixed it had I been more assertive, I don't know. - Although utilities are included, the apartment got very cold. I could not relax at home in the winter without wearing layers of heavy clothing. Overall, my recommendation of this apartment depends on your values. This property was a good match for what I wanted (a quiet, safe, 1-bedroom apartment for a great price in an exciting location). If that's what you value, then you would be hard-pressed to find a better deal than this. If you are looking for spaciousness, luxury, etc., then this is probably not the most suitable for you. Personally, I lived a pretty happy two years here.

I really enjoyed the time I lived here! I had a studio, and even though it was on the smaller side, the layout with the main living being separated from the kitchen, and the hallway/entry/bathroom gave it a nice flow. I had been looking in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area for awhile before I came across this, and again, though it wasn't any bigger than anything else I looked at the extra features (I had a built in breakfast nook/table, and a small balcony), as well as the fact that it was well kept, the location, and the great staff (both in the office and maintenance) sold me right away. I occasionally heard neighbors as they came and went and front doors closed, but never through the walls/floors/ceilings. I was on the side closer to Halsted, so there was a street noise with the three way intersection there, but the location: close to Wellington and Belmont els, as well as the Halsted or Clark buses, and everything else that was steps away was worth that bit of noise to me. I did have to leave this apartment when I took a new job out of state, and the office was super helpful and efficient in assisting me with subleasing and moving in the middle of a lease. Would definitely recommend Dayton Court if you are looking for a place in the area!

I have moved around the Lakeview neighborhood several times over the past 3 years and with that have dealt with several property management companies. Dayton Court Apartments and the Shepherd Property Management Team are far and away at the top of the list as the best. Dayton Court Apartments has a lot going for it. The location can not be beat. It is next door to a Walgreens, Chase, Binnys and a hospital. Additionally it is a max 5 minute walk to the Brown/Purple Line (Wellington Stop) or the Red Line (Belmont). The courtyard is absolutely beautiful. In the warmer months the grass is freshly mowed and flowers are planted. In the colder months the snow is always cleared from the walkway almost immediately. The laundry room is conveniently located in the basement of one of the buildings and there are plenty of washers (fewer dryers but in a year of living there I really never had a problem with their not being a washer/dryer available). The laundry room is also very clean! Compared to what I had in past apartments this was awesome! It is $1.25 for the washer and anywhere between $0.50 - $1.00 for the dryer. This is a little expensive but really no different than a laundry mat. I lived in a 1 bedroom (separate living area, kitchen and eating nook, bedroom, bathroom, and hallway with 2 big closets) and for the price I don't think you can do much better. The building is old/outdated but compared to where I had lived previously it was nice and actually extremely clean when I moved into it. When I was looking for a 1 bedroom/Studio in the Lakeview area I did not come across anything nearly as big for the same price. The Shepherd Property Management team is AWESOME! They are so kind and I was shocked how quickly they knew my name. They are so friendly and helpful. The package pick-up at their office (located on site) was extremely convenient, as well as the ability to drop off rent checks in the mail slot (on site). One enhancement I think they can do is to add the ability to pay rent online. Hopefully in the near future that becomes an option but, again, it isn't that big of a deal because you can drop the rent check off ten steps from your apartment at any hour. The only reason I moved is because I got engaged. Otherwise I would have stayed for another year (and years to come).

Its great to live here and its a very good price on rent. One thing that I can't believe hasn't been mentioned in the reviews I've read is that you will need to buy an air conditioner if you live here. Especially if you are on the third floor, the apartment will be insanely hot. There are times when its mid 60 degrees outside and over 90 degrees inside the apartment, and the heat is not on with fans at full blast. But you can easily afford a cheap air conditioner with the money you will be saving on rent. The heat is literally the only negative, other than that, great place to live.

I lived in Dayton Court for the entire time that I lived in Chicago and had a great experience. The convenience of the location is what attracted me to the place, but the courtyard, on-site management staff (who are both attentive and courteous), and great heat in winter made it a really ideal place to live. My only slightly negative feedback is the lack of flexibility of some of the management company's policies. This is mostly a really, really good thing (they always provide written warning before entering your apartment should they need to, etc.), but in some instances can be overly-rigid in a way that can be inconvenient. They're just very by the book, which of course is mostly a positive thing. Overall, this is a great place to live. I would definitely recommend it highly.

The Dayton Court Apartments was my first apartment upon graduating from college. I lived in a one bedroom for two years and could not have had a more positive experience. The apartments themselves are comfortably laid out with ample room for the kitchen/bedroom/living space. Everything was well maintained, but if there was ever an issue, the maintenance staff was extremely accessible and responsive. The Dayton Court Apartments are centrally located at the ideal intersection of bars/restaurants/shopping/and most importantly, public transportation. Easy walking distance to both the Red and Brown CTA lines. I would highly recommend living there!

I was a resident for 7 years. Great location to enjoy the best of Chicago. Great food and entertainment near by. Restaurants, concerts, and street festivals. Trader Joe's within walking distance and Binny's across the street. Landmark Cinema just down the street. Never had to wait for public transportation as there was always a bus or train waiting. The onsite management is excellent. They were quick to address issues. They even collect packages which is awesome!

I loved living at Dayton Court Apartments. There is so much around the area, easiest walk to the el, and I always felt really safe. I love the inside area and it is always kept up and looks nice. I rented a 1 bedroom by myself and there is plenty of space. If you need something, management is quick to respond and has always resolved any problems I had. I had no noise issues whatsoever. The place was always kept clean as well. I would definitely recommend this to a friend and plan on living here again!

I lived at Dayton Court for two years with a roommate in a two bed/1 bath apartment. We loved our stay there. Highlights include affordable rent, convenient location (steps away from multiple transit options among many dining/entertainment/health/grocery/shopping.) We were also incredibly impressed with the professionalism of the landlords, and their desire to meet the needs of the tenants in a respectful, friendly, and timely fashion. Package pickup at the office, and a large/clean laundry room also stood out as perks for us. Lowlights included 1 set of noisy neighbors for a period of six months (they later moved out), and a no paint policy. But again, we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking.
