I just recently moved into Prairie Shores in October of 2007. The place is quite large for the price I pay. I was paying nearly the same amount for a small 250sq foot studio on the northwest side; I'm now getting 640sq feet. Although the heat is excessive at times (I simply open a window), the view is awesome, the walls and floor are cement so I'm in complete silence, and the tenants are friendly. I can't say that everything is perfect. I first moved in and noticed dozens of maggots on my counters. They wouldn't stop appearing - I could kill them, turn around, a dozen more would appear. After some investigation I found a pile of maggot-infested oatmeal inside the spacer between my cabinets! Needless to say, I took the issue straight to mgmt, right to the building manager herself, who handled the exterminator personally to have the issue cleared up. You've got so many bad reviews of Prairie Shores, but I have to say that when you live with 1600 other people you're bound to have bugs or other issues. The buildings have been around for nearly 50 years now, and not everyone may be as sanitary as you. What I do know is that if you have an issue, be respectful, explain the issue to the Resident Services department, and it will be corrected. When my closet doors broke, I called Resident Services and when I got home, they were fixed. When I first moved in I was nice to the maintenance guy, and he locked the elevator for me to move my stuff up to the 18th floor, without a reservation (normally you call ahead). I've never had issues doing my laundry (I do mine in the off hours of Sunday around 9), and the gym has been great for me. It's easy to get to downtown from here - the #3 bus takes you straight to Water Tower Place. I don't feel unsafe, either, as There's a huge mix of people from all walks of life. It's quiet, and clean. I do recommend Prairie Shores for anyone that needs a nice place to live on the South Side for a good price.

It's almost going to be a year and it has been a wonderful experience. Apartments are Rruly nice and spacious as compared to other ones nearby. The surrounding, lawn area is kept up well. The mgmt staff is also quick.

Overall Gonderful, need more safety. I dont feel safe some times in the stairs or in the lift. Have seen many cases where unauthorized people come in easily and make the residents uncomfortable to live

Good overall. I have a Gutstanding view and a nice easy location to transportation, stores, and if desired, a nice walk to downtown. My place also has what I need pertaining to a certain style and comfort.

Prairie Shores is a nice place to live. The grounds and landscaping are well kept. It's pleasant, spotless and neat and has a location's amazing. You've got many social events and even a few -always enjoyable- breakfast give-aways. We enjoy that...

Horrible experience. mgmt sucks. this Pite is old and ------. Within the year I've lived there, there were 2 fires and someone got stabbed with a fork and nearly beaten to death on the 15th floor (late March, early April of 2018). Save your money and go somewhere else that cares.
