I HATED LIVING HERE. First of all, nobody picks up after their dogs. I call this street "Sh*tley Avenue" instead of Whitley for that reason. You have to watch where you step on this street. It's disgusting. Speaking of disgusting, I found a band-aid in the hot tub on the roof the first time I ever went in it. It shouldn't even be called a hot tub because it was lukewarm. It's never been hot, I've checked. They say it's fully automatic so there's no buttons to press to turn the bubbles or heat on. It's never worked properly, but now they use covid as an excuse for why. The staff is rude and never helpful. When my packages got stolen, they asked me why I didn't call them and have them hold them until I got back into town. I wasn't even expecting the package to get there that early or for it to be an issue sitting in the lobby for TWO days... This has happened 3 times in 2022. Packages being stolen never used to be a problem but now it's an issue I'm experiencing monthly (it is only March 2022 at the time of this review)... My unit has ABSOLUTELY ZERO cellular data so I can't make any calls. It's so annoying to have to walk up the street just to make a phone call. I also can't buzz anyone up because the controlled access buzzer is connected to your phone so if you can't receive a phone call, you can't let anyone in. You can only have Bel Air Internet at this building due to a contract and I'm personally not a fan of the service, there are better providers with better prices but you don't get that choice here. The washing and dryer machines are constantly broken, and the process of filling your card up with money makes zero sense. You have to call a number during specific hours (if you're in my unit - good luck) and then go to a physical machine with a code. Kind of a lot of effort for the world's worst machines that are always messing up and you can never get your money back. The AC in my unit was ancient, hardly worked and made a loud whistling noise. The sliding door to the patio was insecure and I was always afraid one day someone would break in. It would be quite easy for someone to do so! The only good thing I can say is that there were never any roaches in the building. I saw a big one in the garage once, but never in the building. Still hated living here for so long!

Staff is unprofessional and rude. Also, not helpful in resolving issues. The area is noisy and dirty. Some of that is not the fault of the property it's Hollywood. However the building seems to have a lot of young people who party all hours of the evening. They do not keep the grounds very clean there have been instances of dogs going to the bathroom on the grounds in the apartment and left for more than a day before being cleaned up. Also, instances of throw up in the hallway that has stayed for more than a day before being cleaned up. The management company will take you for your deposit with things that are the responsibilities of a management company to repair. However, it's not even worth fighting them as you will probably lose. When I first moved into the building there was a different management team, housekeeping teen, and security. They were amazing! The current staff and security is less than par. Considering how expensive the apartments are you can find more reasonably price with better accommodations.

When I was looking for reviews on this place prior to moving in, I couldn't find a single current remark. The only thing was some negative reviews from what seemed to be outdated. So here's the update. This place ROCKS! The entire place is kept very clean. The management team... Jim, Adam and Ivan... have been nothing short of awesome. I was a little put off by the price... but that's Hollywood! It's actually a bit of a better deal than most considering what you get. Wifi and directv are included in the rent. Seriously... no complaints from me or anyone else I know living here!!!!!! The walls and doors keep the noise in (and out). No street noise (maybe a bit on the weekend).. always a good nights sleep :)

I was a tenant at 1837 Whitley #213 and moved out last month. I have a saved voicemail from you staff (gus and Heidi) regarding the deposit you owe me. Tomorrow marks the 21 day mark where you are legally required to give me my deposit. At this point I will pursue my claim through small claims court. After researching various legal sites I realize I'm subject to further compensation if I don't receive your check by the 28th of this month. I look forward to that! I am also submitting a formal complaint to the BBB who was also CC'd when I submitted my notice to vacate. Furthermore I will post my experience with your company on every social media outlet. PEOPLE READING THIS DO NOT TRUST THE NEW MANAGMENT. I have docs from the Better Business Beaureu about this company.

When I was there late 80s to about 90s or so, it was a great location and the management had changed many times to what I think is the current ones.

The people were cool there and I had a lot of fun there!!!
Someone mentioned the floors or halls looked crooked due to a quake. Could be.
Well I was here during the Northridge quake (1-94) and the placed rocked and I was only on the 3rd floor and was kinda scary being built on that garage below but the place held up as compared to what I saw on Hollywood Blvd that morning!

I miss the cleaning lady who would speak spanish to me! She was sooooooo nice and hope shes there and happy.

My place had VERY noisy neighbors all the time and had no consideration for the time of day.

I had an assigned parking spot on the lower level and the gate worked great.

The AC/fridge etc all were fine.
Had a roach problem once too.......YUK.

All in all I think that place will be near to be cause it was my first LA apartment and spent alot of time there!!!!
2 words: BAD IDEA. The elevator NEVER works, management lies about trying to get you better parking, A/C is old and decrepit, building constantly gets vandalized (grafitti, broken glass, etc), fire alarm system is a JOKE, street noise at night is very loud, rude, and obnoxious, AND I've been solicited for drugs. While I'm not trying to pin everything on management (the area really kind of sucks & is LOW-LIFE), they don't do very much to try and up the ante.

This apartment building stinks. No really it stinks. It has had a bad odor since I moved in and it seems to come and go. On hot days it smells like curry/garbage in the hall way and it ends up in your apartment. All of my friends have commented on it when then come over. So yes it does STINK!

Next is the Dog issue. Yes they take dogs, but there is often dog pee in the elevator. The front lawn smells strongly of dog pee and the grass is completely gone.

No Guest Parking. (True of almost all of the apartments in Hollywood.) And street parking is asking for trouble unless you own a junk car and you have an hour to search for a spot.

The Hot Tub is kind of gross. OMG

Now if you have an issue in your apartment they will do the least amount possible to fix it. In fact, I have called multiple times for one issue and they still have not fixed it. And you are at their mercy to fix it. When you keep calling back they act as if you are the problem for wanting your apartment fixed.

Other annoying issues:
The pink paint in the hallways looks awful. Ewwweee

The mail is a complete mess; the small mailboxes lead to overflow. And overflow is used as a trash bin due to the lack of a trash can in the lobby. So any mail that does not make it to your box is thrown out.

Hope you like to use stairs. Because the elevator is often broke or stuck.

The laundry area is poor. The washers don't fill completely up and the Hot/Warm/Cold settings don't work well.

The floors in the hallway and living areas are uneven. Not a big issue but somewhat annoying. Maybe the last earthquake was not so kind to this building.

Did I mention the smell? PeeU

Also as a female living here I am often a little nervous about the area at night. It isn't real safe and there are many homeless people walking the street.

However it is not all bad here are some positive points:
Lots of hot water and it is real hot.

Good water pressure.

Lots of closet space.

Friendly residents.

Updated bathrooms living areas.

The cleaning lady does clean the lobby everyday and she is friendly.

Good location. Some traffic delay but not that bad.

Parking gates do work.

Other then a few noisy residents for the most part the place is quiet.

IMO: I RECOMMEND AVOIDING DIPLOMAT PROPERTIES IF YOU CAN. THEY MANAGE MANY PROPERTIES ON WHITLEY AVE AND THE SURROUNDING STREETS. Customer satisfaction is not a high priority for them. If they took better care of the property and had a friendly staff to help you with common issues the place would be much better. But that just isn't the case. So keep looking.

Once my lease is up I look forward to moving but I would rather stay if the management would just deal with the issues. It all boils down to customer care. And I would put up with the things I don't like if I felt I was getting my moneys worth. But for the price we pay I expect more.
