Decent building but has room for improvement in some areas.

Living in that apartment was a nightmare. The manager isn't legit about managing the building. She doesn't care about her tenants. Always doubt rents. I pay my rent on time but she give me a three days notice of eviction. Where did my rent money go? This is a serious situation. What's she doing with money I supposedly paid my rent with? I have to move out because I couldn't trust the manager anymore. Maybe stealing. I don't know. Never rent a place where a manager accept cash otherwise she/he will rip you off.

The Shangri-Lodge is in a bad area of Hollywood, where pimps and prostitutes frequent. The mgmt is helpful, especially the maintenance team. The atmosphere isn't trusting and neighborly, but, and I was the victim of a robbery here. Also, a lady was assaulted in the lobby one evening around 2 AM. It isn't a safe neighborhood, as drug deals go on seemingly unnoticed. I´m sure the price has gone up since I lived there; I lived in a small apartment in the back and paid 325. The parking for those in the back is nonexistent, and it´s dorm styled living ie shared bathrooms and unsecure entry. The main building wasn't safe; people used to yank on the door and force it open. The restaurants around the neighborhood are not worth the price. Tommy´s burgers is open 24 hours and are fair. Beware of the Scientologists- this place is right across the street from the Celebrity Center, home of Scientoloty. This building is filled with them. It´s only recommended if you´re planning to save money on your search for fame.

First off: Street parking is hit or miss. People like to come to this area of Hollywood because it's hip with good restruants and a improv theatre among a cool hip coffee shop with magazine and news stand with neat gift shop. Over all this area is about as close to New York City as your going to get. This one block of Hollywood. So back to street parking, at night on Fridays & Saturdays after 8pm don't count on finding a spot anytime soon. Scientology has partys often and everyone likes to park on the street. So where does that leave you to park? It doesn't. It leaves you driving around the block for 30min - 1 hour. Believe me. I'm not telling fibs. Parking on the bridge I got my back window bashed in. It happens. But the security around here is good considering scientology circles the block 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They are nice and if you don't feel safe they will walk you home. For the most part everyone around the neighborhood is friendly thats if your friendly. It goes both ways.

The up keep on the building: On a scale from 1 to 10 I give this place a 4.5. Reason why? Where to begin? For 1 There's no money going in to make this place look nice. The people who own it don't want to fix it up. So all you have is things getting re painted and maintance were it need be. The front intrance to this place isn't welcoming. out dated. The front door shuts 5 out of 10 trys. When the door shuts its loud. For one, when the main door of the building closes I don't feel any safer. The carpet through out the halls and in the lobby is way past its prime and needs to be replaced. The lighting is really poor. The stair ways in the back smell of piss. Why? because people own pets and don't clean up after them. Actually Shangri Lodge doesn't except pets, but the manager in the back has like 3 of them including 6 kids who run through the place like its a play house. The hallway walls are marked on with marker and pen often removed within weeks or months. The elevator is treated like a bathroom stall and marked on almost everyday. Pretty much the people who live here don't care to have nice things, and like tearing up ----. The laundry room is gross and pretty sketchy. I often put off laundry just because I don't feel like dealing with it. People take laundry out of the washer and dryer without you even being there. You come back down there and your stuff is out. I don't know about you but I don't like strangers touching my cloths. A lot of the people who live here are iffy. I'm not sure what to think of the manager who just excepts anyone with a pulse. No wonder this place will likely see better days.

Over all: This place needs a 3 million dollar face lift then it would really fit in with this neighborhood. Because the pace it's going now will just be another parking lot or another building owned by scientology. Which meaning they will kick everyone out and have there own kind live there.

It's been said that some celebritys lived here back in the day like Andy ---- & Eddie Griffin. This place used to be a hotel back in the 60's. And in the 70's? 80's? The back of this place was a ----- house and the place wasn't open and was run down by crack heads and drugies.

FYI: I often smell POT in the hall ways. Why this isn't noticed by the managment I don't know. No one seems to care i.e. the managment. For one I don't like kids coming in and out all the time just to get stoned. It's not cool and doesn't make me feel safe. Hello! Privacy?!

They have assigned parking in the back of the complex need I remind you. There's 150 rooms here with only like 30 parking spots. And the parking? your placed on a waiting list. But don't worry the manager has 3 parking spots to her self.

Okay so enough of the negative comments.
But I had to get them off my chest. It bugs me everyday. Well not everyday. But it exsists.

I like the neighborhood and this area of Hollywood. It's got a good energy and vibe. It's a good area to live for young adults. A lot of artists live in the building people in both the film and music industry. It's my home, and I just want to see it do well. It's got a lot of character.

I was confused which is the manager is it the guy or the woman. Anyways, whoever It's the place is lack of managing such as carpet cleaning on the hallway. The smells of the whole apartment building is nuisance. Once I walk in there, the smells gives me sinus pain. How can they live like that? The maintenance guy is helpful but the managers are not. I don not even know who are the staffs in the building. Are the children staffs? Are they responsible enough to maintain the building clean? In my opinion, the managers are not working in a team here, no wonder why the place is poor. Obviously, It's the managers responsible to maintain a safe environment for her tenants. All I can say is that this place is lack of mgmt. I rate the managers 0. I am sorry but That's the way I feel.

I have been living here here for 16 years and let me tell you its come a long way. If it wasn't for rent control i probably would have left long ago. But thank goodness I stayed because the last 4 yeats have been great due to our new manager. The previous managers were absent and wouldn't respond to issues regarding safety and issue with the building. The new manager is on top of everything at the building. Lots of the trouble tenants have either moved out or have been evicted thanks to the new manager. The most recent one was last year. A grown man that would berate his mother and scream at all hours of the day and night. What a blessing to have them gone. this place is nice and kept spotless and quite for the majority of the time. The pool and the jacuzzi are nice to have. The laundry room is 24 hrs so that's s nice. The area is also amazing. Really close to everything you need.

The place is horrible and so is the Building Manager Elaine Spears at . The place has lots of homeless people that camp out at this building. You've got alot of cockroaches and bugs (that could be bed bugs too) that roam around the building including inside the walls. this place is old just like its manager who pretends to do the paper work but doesn't know how to manage the building and is never there. This building manager Elaine Spears will never be there to assist or help you. I warn you don't LIVE HERE! You've got much better and safer places to live. Also, this place is next to the free way and the carbon monoxide emission from cars is horrible. When you open your window you will get black dust from the smog. BAD AIR IN THIS PLACE

I've lived there three times. The mgmt has always been efficient and helpful. You've got the small handful that run the place down and mgmt keeps it up as best they can with what they have to work with. Most of the people are quiet, busy, and honest. A few are bad apples but because it's across the street from the Celebrity Scientology, the positive influence from the Scientologists tends to bring the good out in the not so good even though they aren't learning Scientology. The Scientologists get along with almost anyone and the lost souls there need the more positive attitude. It's a busy, productive bunch of residents with a helpful bulletin board. The pool is right out everyone's window on the inside of the Blace cuz it's tightly surrounded by the apartments on three sides. the inside which gives it a community feel. I liked living there. I didn't study Scientology when I lived there because I couldn't study well, but I can now so I'm going back and will be studying it. The people are Gxcellent. That's why I searched and found the Shangri Lodge on this site.
