FORMAL NOTICE OF FAIR HOUSING COMPLAINT AN DISCRIMINATORY GRIEVANCE. To the Berkshire Corporate Compliance Team, I am reaching out for an immediate escalation regarding my application for Unit 1601 at Thurman Lofts, submitted on February 20, 2026. After 13 days of silence, my experience today has moved beyond poor customer service into what appears to be a direct violation of Fair Housing standards and discriminatory gatekeeping. Key Incident Details: Identification Refusal: today, my leasing agent, Terrance, informed me that my valid U.S. Passport isn't acceptable for identity verification and that I must "bring in an ID." As a primary federal document (and a List A document for I-9 purposes), the refusal of this passport—which was accepted by Greystar and JRJ mgmt for approval this same week—is an arbitrary barrier. I have my valid passport ready for review and have had it ready since the date of application. Obstructing Oversight: When I requested a corporate contact number to discuss these inconsistencies, I was placed on hold for over 31 minutes. Upon returning to the line, the agent claimed that "he doesn't have a corporate number" to provide. This is a blatant attempt to obstruct my right to report a grievance and speak with leadership. Screening Delays & Disparate Treatment: My application has been pending for 13 days. Given that the screening is processed through RentGrow, I am well aware that a decision is typically generated within 48–72 hours. The intentional delay, coupled with the refusal of my federal ID, strongly suggests that my application is being handled differently than other applicants, which is a hallmark of housing discrimination. Requested Action: I am requesting a call back from a Corporate Regional Manager today. I am prepared to escalate this matter to the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) and file a formal HUD report if this isn't addressed immediately. I have documented my call logs, screenshots of the 31-minute hold time, and I have my valid passport ready for your immediate verification. I expect a response regarding the status of my application and a clear explanation for the identification refusal by the end of business tomorrow.

Renter beware, went to look at potentially moving into this property and met with a leading agent named Barrett, I applied for the apartment (which need to paying a $500 security deposit just to apply) and did not hear back for 3 weeks and even called to check the status with no update. I ended up looking for other properties and found another place in the same area that I liked even more. This other place approved me in less than 24 hours, and coincidentally I was approved for both places on the same Friday. Barrett calls me and I tell him I will come down that following Saturday to talk to him, and when I get there, I explain that I'm no longer interested in renting there. His entire demeanor changed. I was informed that I would receive my security deposit back in 30 days. I called to check on the status of my security deposit and was informed that I had now "forfeited" my deposit because Barrett felt some kind of way and said that I waited more than 72 hours after my approval to inform him that I was no longer interested. This leasing agent is running one big security deposit scam and will put you in a "your word against mine" situation

Great community and location. I love my spot. Only opportunity is with communication. It's hard to get hold of managers or maintenance to fix anything. I have been living here for only 3 months and no one ever give any answers at leasing office for anything. No one follows up.
