“Unit 1B Pros: Right in the middle of HK. Close to many trains & a lively neighborhood. My unit was also renovated therefore I had newer appliances. Heat was good. Cons: Building was dirty and rarely cleaned. The front doors to building were always broken & homeless crackheads would come inside to sleep in the hallway. The basement was dirty and filled with pests. One time a homeless man pooped in the laundry room sink. The washer/dryer would often break & be out of order. I had a 2-year leak in my bathroom. Occasional roaches (not many, I could manage) but still.. Advice to landlord: Clean the building more please”

“Pros: Apartment was sunny and a spacious for the price. Cons: THIS IS A SLUM LORD SITUATION, BEWARE! Building management was extremely unresponsive. They did not fix ESSENTIAL issues like a hole in the ceiling causing a leak. Once you complained they would often ignore your calls for days or weeks making it impossible to get in touch with them or fix any issues. One of the neighbors had a severe roach infestation affecting a large part of the building and responses to that were either slow or nonexistent. The super once told me being locked out of my apartment wasn’t an emergency and that he wasn’t in town to let me in, and after escalating the issue through several channels he showed up in 15 minutes - he was clearly in the neighborhood and just didn’t want to come. This cost me hundreds of dollars and he was willing to leave me without a lock on my apartment overnight as a woman who lived alone in a building that often had people breaking in who didn’t live there to steal packages or cause other mischief. Backyard is poorly maintained and one of the tenants volunteered to do all the maintenance there but last I heard that tenant was moving out . They would try to save money on heat by freezing you in the winter. Roaches are everywhere. Do not rent from Brusco!! Only two washers and dryers in the basement that was shared with the next door building, so 40 apartments total!! They were always in use and I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to hope they would be open. I ended up using an outside laundry too. Took a month to receive the laundry card. Package theft was also the norm and I lost hundreds of dollars of packages. I also had poor experiences with the realtors who do the listings for this building. Advice to landlord: Actually take tenants issues seriously and take pride in providing a livable situation and answer the phone when we call, or don’t be a landlord.”

“Unit 1C Pros: The constant heat is probably the only perk. Cons: They do not clean up the building, Pest control does not come monthly as they state. The super doesn't pick up his phone nor fix anything. Management will repair things when they deem it fit... I've been in this unit for about 3 years and they're yet to replace my stove, the oven doesn't work. We also have a camera in the entrance and it doesn't work!!! so packages do get stolen. They don't maintain the laundry room. They don't have a work email so they're isn't a paper trail. They're legit shitty people all they care about is collecting a check. Advice to landlord: Care about your renters, they LIVE here so it's suppose to be our sanctuary so maintain it. I understand that some people don't care but for those who do care and maintain it put in the work to give them peace of mind.”

“Pros: Newly renovated apartment, location is convenient, Super is pretty responsive Cons: Dirty basement, cockroaches every once and a while, neighbor had a mouse issue. Thin walls. Came home to a random maintenance man in my apartment without my consent. Management had given him keys without asking me ... that was the final straw for me. Advice to landlord: Clean the basement and respect your tenants space and privacy.”

“Pros: Apartment was in reasonably good condition Supers over the years were attentive. There was a nice backyard area. Cons: Once the former owner, Mr. Damascus, sold to the Bruscos, things went downhill fast. Multiple stabilized tenants left after being falsely accused of violating leases and deciding it wasn't worth fighting. Rents went up rapidly. Maintenance and extermination became less regular. People didn't get their deposits back. Brusco flat out admitted he had been in my apartment without my consent when I wasn't there. Just look up Brusco Realty on Yelp (or Westside Management--suddenly they got a new name after their Yelp score went below 2 stars). Advice to landlord: Stop being greedy. Stop breaking the law. Stop harassing tenants. Return deposits.”
