“Unit 41 Pros: location. working washer/dryer Cons: location, its loud, noisy, we haven't had a working over for 4 months, they keep adding on late fees for an increase we TOLD the management that they are improperly charging us as we have a 2 year lease. Had to pay for my own exterminate as the Mickey Mouse club was all up in my clothes and bed. Hope you know some DIY cuz the lazy maintenance dude don't do anything Advice to landlord: Don't be a landlord if you don't want to properly manage your property”
— 536 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 42 Pros: Cheaper than most buildings. Cons: Pests (roaches and mice) Unfixed water damage Water shut off without notice Inconsistent landlord communication Inaccurate rental balance statements Advice to landlord: Communicate with your tenants via email, send rent receipts, and do better.”
— 536 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: -Good water temp Cons: -No laundry -Not well maintained or cleanly -Unresponsive/unwilling super -No secure place for packages”
— 536 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 25 Pros: The neighborhood/location is amazing. You can find other creatives in the area, lots of food options, bars and restaurants, schools and close walks to the train. Cons: These apartments are unlivable. Management covers up the damage by putting pretty bandages that last 6 months to a year. You can never get a hold of them, the super is an older guy who can’t fix things and doesn’t show up, there’s a SERIOUS Mold issue and pests problem in building. The hallway is falling apart. Building is leaning and has no heat or hot water. They just replaced the intercom system but now visitor’s calls go to our phone … if we have service which is terrible in the building. Some apartments have missing ceilings and walls, as well as a bad leak through out the building you can see in the hallways. Advice to landlord: I suggest you not only buy property but also take care of it. Check the integrity of the property and yours as well.”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: location for city college students Cons: bugs, mice, super was awful, basic nyc apartment stuff Advice to landlord: I would say care about your tenants but yall know how it is”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Good location next to the 1 train and multiple restaurants. Cons: - Thin walls and lots of noise. (There is constant loud music with a deep and high bass playing in the basement of the building that penetrates to the first few floors and is extremely annoying). - During the winter, there were multiple weeks without hot water. - Mice living in the walls rent-free. - I regret moving into this building and I wouldn’t recommend it to others. Advice to landlord: Lower the noise levels, get rid of the mice, clean the hallways better, and fix the hot water.”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Non noisy neighbors, great location, attention to trash pickup Cons: Stairs, hallways frequently dirty . Overall cleanliness”
— 536 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: It’s a relatively clean and well kept building, the super does his best, but it’s an older building with issues that need to be addressed. Rent is pretty good for the area. Cons: Bathroom layout is very cramped, almost impossible to get something taken care of in the unit. If you have issues with rent or anything else, it’s an incredibly unresponsive management team. Advice to landlord: Please make it easier to get in contact with management, and a more efficient process. You never know if they actually got a message through the app or on the voicemail.”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Good location, next to subway, NO bedbugs, good supper. Cons: Loud music, walls not soundproof, windows aren’t weather proof, heating is too hot or too cold, never perfect. I did have mice in my apartment.”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Quiet block near some decent stuff in Hamilton Heights. Not worth the headaches. Cons: The bed bugs were outrageous. They came in from the apartment next door. Multiple tenants moved out at the same time because of them. And “gut renovated” is a sham. The ceiling collapsed in the bathroom and we found an entire ceiling including a light fixture behind the ‘new ceiling’. Living here was an absolute nightmare and I’m coming back years later to tell people to avoid at all costs!”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: - Apartment was relatively clean when we moved in - The apartment had been recently renovated - The super was quick to respond although repairs took a while Cons: - Hallways were rarely cleaned - Very noisy - while the super was quick to respond to requests, any repair took a very long time - incredibly noisy radiators Advice to landlord: Better upkeep on the building hallways”
— 532 WEST 143 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Not many kids in the building, neighbors are nice and often leave household items downstairs for free exchange, never had any packages stolen. We never had roaches or mice so that was great! Cons: Management isn’t the most responsive. The guy they sent to spray for the bed bugs we had gotten wasn’t the best at all, but they did call him and he did come Advice to landlord: Please fix up the hallways- pay your super better so he is more equipped to take care of problems. Fire the grouchy lady who answers the phone for management/ be more responsive”
