“Pros: Great layout, big sunny windows, renovated recently Cons: The property management does not keep up the outside of the building. Does not take care of the trash or keep hallways clean. Poor insulation on the beautiful windows mean very high utility bills. Advice to landlord: Take better care of your property!”
— 2144 5 AVENUE · Manhattan“Unit 2 Pros: Beautiful space, exposed brick, laundry Cons: One time, the building door was jammed shut and we were all locked inside. The landlord said he’d send someone within 48 hours. Another time, the neighbors plumbing was leaking through my ceiling, management couldn’t come for 48 hours. Washing machine broke and in order to repair they needed to put dryer in the living room. They left it there for 4 weeks because they “forgot they had to put it back”. I’ve climbed over piles of trash to get into the building while 9 months pregnant because they never come to clean. Building was mopped once a year after we complained. I called 311 frequently because it was the only way to get them to do anything. Nightmarish. Advice to landlord: Do your job”
— 2144 5 AVENUE · Manhattan“Pros: In-unit laundry, dishwasher, central heat/air, big kitchen, lots of sunlight, tall ceilings, pet-friendly Cons: Management is incredibly slow to respond, maintenance requests are rarely completed, and never completed by a qualified professional. Maintenance requests are often flagged as completed even though no one has ever come to even take a look. Trash management is beyond abysmal. The building is never cleaned, most of the lights in the lobby and stairwell have been out for months. Both front doors to the building were broken for months leaving the building wide-open. Packages are stolen constantly. The building was updated nicely some time ago, and they have never looked back since. It could be a really great spot if they just took the time to actually maintain and fix things. The apartment was filthy when we moved in. Advice to landlord: Just fix things appropriately, pay the little bit extra money so someone who can actually fix things does the work.”
— 2144 5 AVENUE · Manhattan“Unit 2 Pros: the neighborhood and neighbors Cons: The management is operating illegally. They fail to complete basic maintenance. They left a broken washing machine in our kitchen for 3 months. They are rude on the phone. They stiff workers. They have a horrible reputation around the block. They let trash pile up. All around they are genuinely terrible people. Avoid at all costs!!!! Advice to landlord: Stop being terrible people. Be human. There are people that live here and you treat them like trash.”
— 2144 5 AVENUE · Manhattan“Pros: central heat and air, spacious with high celings, washer/dryer un unit, dishwasher, garbage disposal, deep window sills, exposed brick, hardwood floors Cons: front door often doesn't shut & lock, several burglaries, trash management/removal inconsistent, mgmt company difficult to reach by phone Advice to landlord: spend the money to improve security and garbage management. Make the roof accessible for common space”
