“Awful cockroach infested and mice.. save your self from a costly move and rent someplace else. I have lived here for two years and management can’t seem to get control of the cockroach infestation I move in to a different apartment that was newly renovated but have been having issues first with a swear smell throughout the apartment that lasted 5 months before they were able to fix it, and now 3 months of cockroaches. The apartment prior to this had mice and cockroaches”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“Pros: Cleanliness given the number of apartments; lovely staff; quiet; great views of the Hudson Cons: Tenants violating smoking rules; thin walls; lots and lots of pets Advice to landlord: More enforcement of building rules”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“Pros: Friendly staff, laundry room on site, concierge means I never miss or lose a package. Maintenance staff is very responsive to requests. Cons: The rents are extremely high. I find that they may be doing some shady business, especially after I obtained my apartment registration. It feels like they are doing their best to take advantage of their tenants... they advertise lots of amenities, but none of the amenities are free. Parking is a few hundred dollars a month. the gym is a huge monthly cost, especially in comparison to other gyms. It's just ridiculous that they make it seem like these amenities are a plus if you are a tenant, but in reality, they re not! Advice to landlord: Be transparent”
“Pros: The gym is great ( but it’s an extra 250 dollars charge per family) Relatively close to public transport Walking distance to the bus and metro north Only 20 minutes walk downhill to the subway Great view Hudson river or city and Harlem river Cons: 1. Victor is the biggest incompetent property manager I have ever seen. He doesn’t care barely answers and when he does he will twist your words and won’t do anything. 2. Neighbors can be noisy, I have a psycho living next door who screams at odd hours and punch the walls. Several complaints to the management didn’t really help. 3. The building doesn’t enforce the lease clauses except for the payment. They won’t provide quite enjoyment they don’t enforce their own carpeting law which is sad because the neighbors above you can really open a gym above your head 4. It’s a 500 families building so there is always someone moving in or out and that means slow elevators and construction! A lot of construction! You won’t have a moment of quiet. Oh and did I mention that the walls are paper thin? You can literally hear your neighbors snoring at night. Advice to landlord: Fire Victor, invest in better insulation, treat your tenants with respect”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“This building is just a piece of crap, walls are paper thin. The management is crap, they don't deal with any issue. If you happen to live next to a crazy neighbor who rages or pound the walls they won't bother helping or even sending them letters. I was living next to a family that had a rouge visitor for 1 year. That family told the building that the visitor is not a rouge tenant rather he comes and go, however, that was a lie. Management were informed however they did nothing about it. If you are looking for a quite living look elsewhere this building is really that bad!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUILDING,NO SERVICE, NO HEAT ,NO SECURITY,DOORMAN WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR! SUPER- BIG IDIOT-DOESN'T WORK ON SATURDAYS-IF HE IS IN THE BUILDING.RENT IS JUST CRAZY!!!BUT NOT FOR EVERYBODY,SPECIAL TENANTS GETS ALL THE ATTENTION!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“Unit 1112 Pros: Concierge in basement is convenient and safe so I know my packages won’t be stolen. Big Landry room. Convenient to metro north and big parking garage and gym in building. Rooms and windows are big and plenty kitchen cabinets and closet space. Cons: The air conditioner and heat come from the same built in unit and the building decides when it switches over, and they actually have to come into the apartment to physically switch it. The a/c and heat are not very good. Only two elevators per tower and they are crowded at rush rime and slow. The discount for gym and parking in basement is minimal, so they’re both still ridiculous expensive. Some of the doormen are nice but others are rude and mean and one is a lech and makes me and my daughter feel unsafe. What’s up with the bathroom vent and what lives in There? I HAD TO THREATEN TI SUE TO GET MY DEPOSIT REFUNDED Advice to landlord: Update the a/c and heating units and bathrooms instead of wasting money on new wallpaper and carpets in hallways and lobby. Get ride of the lech doorman. Close up vents and get better pest management.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“Unit 1525 Pros: The rental cost Cons: I have recently moved out of the building, I hesitated to write a review but I think it is important because I would not want someone to go through something similar. I lived there for several years and I could no longer take living here. Management: The building is having a lot of tenant turn over. A lot of younger tenants are moving in and the amount of marijuana smell is ridiculously strong. A lot of the older tenants with families are leaving and even the older tenants without kids because of this. I complained to management for two years straight and nothing major was done, after 1 year they told me to place a draft stopper under my door, NO they did not do it, they suggested that I do it. I put the draft stopper, and nothing happened. Some of the apartments, like mine have a balcony. I was up high on the 15th floor and I could see the younger tenants growing marijuana plants on their balcony. I would send management pictures too and still they did not address or even reply to my emails or calls. Even living in a higher floor you would think that it would be better with the smell but it wasn't. Repairs – The building does not like to repair. They have a portal that you place your repairs and they never look at it. But then again there are close to 600 units in the building and about 2-3 handy men to service it all. And the handy men are not very good handy men. They expect tips to just look at the issue in your apartment then to fix it. I complained to management about this, because this should be part of our rental fee and no tip should be expected and their response was that they would look into it but never got back to me and next time I had an issue the same thing happened. The super Krish is non responsive and of no help. All he does is stand around and say no to everything or instruct to have a crappy job to be done. Its all about doing a botched job on top of the error or repair, not starting from scratch. Does not matter if there is mold or anything. Again, I had YouTube or had to outsource a handy man to fix it. Rodents – yes there is rodents and lots. When I told the buildings super, he told me to put my name and apt on a list and that on Wednesdays an exterminator comes to inspect. The exterminator is one of the handy men, and he knocks, and gives you traps for me to place myself. And for the roaches, the same, they gave me roach spray so I can spray myself. How is that proper service? Laundry room – the machines never work, something is always wrong. And the room is so small for close to 600 units. Plumbing – the water pressure is not great and the drains are always getting clogged. Luckily there is YouTube that can always help in tough situations. Building parking – extremely expensive. When I left, I was paying $475 a month. They are icon parking a separate company from the building management, but they pretend they are a one stop shop and they are NOT. There is also a lock out time when gates are closed. If you want 24/7 access, it is a different fee and you have to pay for a key for access aside from the monthly fee. Building amenities – The gym and pool are extremely expensive. Location & Commute to the City – aside from management, this was one of the reasons I moved. I work in the city and there are no trains just express bus to the city. The express bus is by schedule only, if you miss it you are screwed. And the commute is NOT the 20 minutes they say, it is 50 minutes on a good day into the city. Coming home is another beast. It is close to 2 + hours back home during the rush hour and forget it if its raining or snowing. Rent - The rental increase and hidden charges are ridiculous. I tried fighting some and because of the fine print, I could not dispute it. Stolen packages – Do not bother having a delivery service bring you something. They leave it at your door and it is stolen. You ask the doorman and its like speaking to a wall. They do not see anyone because they are fake doormen. Especially at night, the night doorman is sleeping and anyone from the street can just walk in. Advice to landlord: Be attentive to your tenants, make sure you stay on top of the marijuana smell throughout the building and stop ignoring it. The younger tenants are ruining the building with their marijuana use/smell. When tenants report this issue and show you pictures of other tenants growing marijuana on their balcony, address the issue, do not ignore it. Also, keep tabs on the people with pets. They need to have rules because their is urine and poo in the elevators or in the carpet in the hallway, imagine stepping on urine when you exit the elevator, disgusting. The super needs to be a real super and be on top of repairs and fix the rodent issues. Management needs to get better doormen that are alert and not allow anyone in and do a real doorman job for the rental price. Attend to fixing the laundry room or get another one, its not enough for the amount of units! And lastly, stop it with the hidden cost of AC, heat, renewal fees/increases and closing costs and ALSO RETURN DEPOSITS TO TENANTS LEAVING!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“Pros: Close to metro north Cons: Thin walls. You can hear everything Advice to landlord: Insulate walls to reduce noise”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“The doorman don't ask people want apartment they going to and don't call up the apartment and strangers come and go as they went and that's no good and I don't like that the management got to something about that”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“You’d think with such a high end place the front desk could be of some assistance to deliverers. They’ll be sure to help themselves to a front row seat in watching but refrain from getting up and opening the door for someone struggling to make an entrance.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“Pros: Fairly priced Fairly clean Fairly safe Working to upgrade entire building Building staff for most part great guys Cons: Be careful with Hampton Managment, they verbally offered a two year lease, refused to honor it at closing. Apt was infested w roaches and grout in bath covered with caulk to mask moldy grout, refused to change grout ( absolutely disgusting!) . “Included A/C” is only 2 months. No civility, people let dogs urinate in elevators, lobby and in areas w no dog signs, don’t clean up poo, heavy pot smell throughout building, noisy neighbors with no response from management, no system for having carts in lobby to carry groceries upstairs. Lobby often left unattended by night doorman, they offer deals on apt that are only available to new tenants unfairly preventing existing tenants from getting an = deal. Advice to landlord: Do what you say you are going to do, honor and keep great tenants by treating them fairly. Offer good paying tenants same deals as you offer incoming new tenants take care of quality of life issues in building”

— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I CURRENTLY Live here and I must say...the BIGGEST COMPLAINT I have is the unprofessional service that is displayed by the management office! On site & Off Site! They advertise numerous apartments with a "1 month free" stipulation and add additional months on to your lease in order to retract the offer. The woman in the management office are all rude. Its beyond evident these woman more than likely have no knowledge of real estate and simply acquired their jobs off of a craigslist ad..but be that as it may if you even decide to live here be prepared to deal with things on your own. They also make hard attempts to dock the security deposit thatis due back when you leave..my neighbor left and ended up in court after they tried to give her back 900.00 of a 2950.00 deposit because they claim the walls needed no be painted at her expense and grease on the cabinets that needed to be cleaned...Pure nonsense. My rent is 2900.00...that's over 34k a year! And im telling you all...DO NOT be fooled by the interior of the hallways or the lobby...The building is OLD! The Ventilation is Horrible! Summer time they charge an additional $60.00 on your rent for AC but the air is ALWAYS Hot and barely works! The Plumbing sucks..Water pressure so low u have to run around in the shower to get wet! The building has a Gym that Charges Families an ADDITIONAL $228.00 A month TO USE! The Parking SUCKS! and the building parking is also $230 per month Per Car! This place is like the Taj Mahal of Skid Row! A Total ---- hole and run by Idiots. Good Luck!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I disliked this community because of its rude and dismissive management and horrifically poor upkeep of the common areas of the building. While the maintenance staff, concierge and doormen were, for the most part, pleasant, I found the management unhelpful in addressing and resolving issues related to maintenance, building upkeep and extending common courtesies. In my observation the maintenance staff worked hard but were severely understaffed for a building the size of the Century. As a result, maintenance requests were not always addressed in a timely manner and to no fault of their own. I lived there for 10 years. Over time, the hallway carpets and walls became filthy. When things fell apart they weren't fixed, they were patched up. Something as simple as the hallway and elevator signage, after many fixes, could still be found on the floor as it had fallen off time and time again. I endured the infestation of mice; it took months to get rid of them. There was a persistent leak in one of the closets that was never addressed. When I finally moved out, what appeared to be black mold lined the closet. For the rent we paid, and though yes it was in the lease, the longer I lived there it seemed inconceivable that management thought it had no responsibility for putting a new coat of paint on the walls every few years. Even in NYC, residents who live in the "projects" get a new coat of paint every three years. I bring these things up because The Century is advertised as a "LUXURY RENTAL" with increasingly little luxuries. More, when they were repointing the bricks on the building façade those of us with terraces were without access to them for months. When we inquired about when the work would be finished management became increasingly hostile about the constant inquiry. Rent was NOT adjusted to compensate for this inconvenience and wrought iron furniture brought for a terrace had to sit in the living room or placed in storage at the resident's expense. When I decided to exercise my right to move based on a loophole in their lease agreement and attempted to communicate this to management with the desire to resolve the matter amicably and above board, I was appalled to find that after 10 years of being a "model" tenant (one who paid their rent on time always, lived well within a community environment, up-kept the unit I lived in) that I would be threatened with a bogus law suit and dragged through court for two years. Though the case was resolved in my favor, I was sadly reminded of how low this management group had sunk. When management sinks this low it is hard to imagine a comeback. As a result, I would never refer the Century to anyone.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“The women in the office are not to polite or professional. The building smells like marijuana. The carpets in the hallways are filthy. The elevators are always out of service. You pay big bucks for the gym and parking. I am really rethinking renewing my lease when it comes up. For the amount of rent you pay you would expect a lot more. It's sad because all the maintenance guys and concierge and doorman are fantastic. It's there management that sucks !!!!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“expensive dump!!!noise 24/7,no proper security,no management.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“The apartments are very large and spacious. I am currently living here now. however I will be moving soon. The benefits are the staff, they are very courteous and kind. The neighbors are also very friendly. The building consist of mostly elderly people, families with A LOT of children and dogs, none of which I mind as a single person in a one bedroom. What I hate about the building is the leasing office/management staff. They are absolutely horrible. The rent is astronomically too high for what you're getting. (one BR starting at $2,700) The apartments are nice but the building itself is old, the hallways are horrific. They look like a hotel in a scary movie. I hate the fact the amenities are separate from the building which cost $1,100 a year and you MUST sign a contract. The Garage is also separate from the building which cost about $331 per month and you must put down 1st month rent and security deposit when you sign up) So for a 1BR you have to pay 1st mth rent & sec. dep = $5,400 plus $1,100 for the club, plus $662 for the garage if you drive (street parking is horrible) so that a total of $7,162 you would have to put upfront to live here and enjoy all it has. Now let me remind you this is still the BRONX, not Manhattan. This is just my opinion!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“The apartments are very big with great closets and views. There is a 24 hour doorman but the gym is privately owned and there are doctors and dentists offices in the building so anyone can go up the elevators -- thus its not entirely safe. Parking is very expensive. There are a lot of kids and elderly people. I lived there for two years, and overall had a poor experience. Thus, I would not recommend it for the reasons listed above.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I lived there for 2 years. it was terrible experience ,even now that I moved till this moment I can not stop thinking about it . They broke in to my apartment in 18 flower with the keys that some how they manage to obtain it, and they took almost what ever had value and that was very easy to take; like all my jewelry that was our saving as a young couple and computer what ever you might think about it, but the worse part was that the management did not even care about it, although they knew it was inside job. I am out that horrible building almost year and half but even today that I am in a lost of debt and you can think selling piece of that jewelry which was for a rainy day it would help me to have easier life it make me cry.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I lived there for 2 years, and that was a real nightmare. NO WINDOW on the kitchens!!!!!!!!!!! Normally I never had any problem with anybody, accept this "super" (some naughty Irish guy). Live in this building like being under magnifying glass. Walls extremely THIN!!!! But, perfect for people who's paying but living somewhere else, or going home IN TIME from work, sleeping, and that's it. Be careful.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I have lived in the Century for almost the last five years with my well behaved, trained, little dog. I have lived in the same apartment the whole time. My neighbors are wonderful, and my floor is a dream. Consistantly, clean and quiet w/ passing pleasentries. My view is unbelievable. When you walk into my apartment for the first time you are immediately forced to the window to get a closer look of the panaramic views of the East and West River, city skyline, GW Brigge, and on a clear day Long Island Sound. I will never get tired of the view. My apaerment was renovated before I moved in, and was in exellent shape. Odviousley cleaning was still required. No stainless, or granite as is the phase right now in NYC, but none the less standard sized appliances gas stove/oven, fridge, as well as a dishwasher, and new cabinetts and tile floor (white). I will admit it has become a litte sterale- Parkey floor was new. Reguardless of apartment size closets are great ! Tiles in bathroom although were aparently new at time of move in, but are dated. However, amazing water pressure ! Biggest down fall is the windows, and heating / cooling system. Which can often make it tricky to achieve a comfortable tempature, and a good fan, and hummidifer are necessary. I must agree with the other postings that dogs were much more welcomed when I first moved it, and have been written-up for the stupidest little things. There use to be a better screening process of the animals, but now it is a come one come all. Worse than the dogs is the conclave of stollers. The building has a general population of at least 49% new large familiys. Who I suspect live in tight quarters, because when the children are in public areas act wild w/ out any acknowledgement for their parents or building staff. I have almost been run over several times, by small children on bikes, skateboards, roller blades, scotters, and of more often strollers ! Forget the dogs, the strollers are the real problem in this building. 30% are young single, married professionals relocated from the city. The remainning 21% are retired, or elderly. The buildings diversity steams from housing both the Riverdale Senior Center, as well as a hebrew day school. Yeah 8:30am in the lobby can look like Grand Centeral Station. The building staff are good, but yes repairs are usually medeocor at best ! Some times it is due to lack of skill, while other times it is due to management cuts on quality supplies. The management sucks without question. The office within the building is like a mirage. I can't pay my rent there, and anytime I brought a problem to them I have been directed to call someone downtown. Where I have to go through an autimatedphone system, and then put on my Jphnny Cockran to get what ever it is I need done. I do feel very safe here. The garage is necessary, but I too agree extermely over priced, as is the rent. The staff only speak spanish, except for the manager, but he is only on during the day when your out working to pay the rent. Constantly agraviting problems, and no one to help. Those men stit in there office and watch TV. Ask them for anything, and they yell- little considersation from neighbors to park within lines, and often my car suffers dings and scraps. But there really is no other choice. The gym. Well it's convient ! management is crazy ! but if you go and do your thing, and add three years onto any promise they make you won't be disappointed. Overall, does it have everthing from great closents and views, parking , laundry, gym, and a full staff, yes. but, this is one of few rental probperties in riverdale so it gets a diverse mix of people. Way to many strollers. you must fight to get what you need from management, and the rental increases are high. it serves my purposes, with its close proximity to NYC, Westchester, as well as mass transit. Like everything in NYC you have to decide what you priorties are.”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I lived in the Century for 2 years and my experience was not a great one. For one, I was probably the youngest tenant in the building and although I am white, my boyfried is Puerto Rican--and we were not accepted by many. The majority of the staff was kind, but one of the doormen was very rude to me, my boyfriend and my guests (who were usually not white). He often lied to us (telling us the phone was broken and he couldn't call a cab--did this several times, including on xmas eve, only to see him call a cab for a white man 5 min later) and would badger us if we were waiting in the lobby for someone. We later found out that he had a history of this; several years back someone sued him and won a settlement--yet he is still there. The apartments have a great view and I had new appliances, but that's about it. The "wood floors" that they boast are simply glue down squares that crack when you walk on them. The floors are thin and the walls have been repainted without being scraped. Although I paid my rent on time everyone month for the 2 years I lived there, they opted not to renew my lease because they claimed that when a worker was in my apartment to repair my broken (new) dishwasher, they saw roaches and thus my apartment was deemed to be "filthy." Number one, there is an exterminator that comes every week to the building, so I know I'm not the only person in the building that had roaches. Number 2, try have a broken dishwasher with water sitting in it and tell me that roaches won't flock to it. They also claimed that worker reported that there was dog feces all over my apartment and I didn't pick it up. That is such a blatant lie it was amazing. They had me on camera walking my dog at least 3 times a day, so I don't know when she found the time to poop everywhere...they also claimed that my dog urinated in the hallway, the elevator and the entrance way--again a lie. I've heard that the building is no longer pet friendly--but there were a lot of dogs when I lived there--the super had a dog as well--so don't know if that rule applies to older tenants. I felt unwelcome from the start. Many of the people-although not all-have an attitude problem. Seeing a young, inter-racial couple, that were doing well for themselves did not sit well with many people. I never had loud parties, never trashed my apartment, and was either at work, at school, or at home studying, so I did not create a lot of noise. The best part was that after they said they would not renew my lease, they wouldn't let me move out a month early, so I was paying rent on my new apartment and the century for a month while I wasn't even living there. If you are looking to live there, be prepared for a high rent, that will increase at least $100 when you renew it (and this was only for a studio), problems finding parking (unless you get a spot in the overpriced parking garage--about $300 a month) and people with attitudes. Good Luck!”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“My experience in this building was such a huge disappointment. The walls are paper-thin, and if you're unfortunate enough to live near noisy neighbors (which I was), it can be unbearable. Rents have been climbing at an alarming rate as Manhattanites flee to the less-expensive enclave of Riverdale, and the building is reaping huge rewards with 10-20% annual rent increases. The building is also no longer pet friendly, probably because they allowed so many nasty, badly-trained dogs people started to complain. So if you have a pet, the Century is out.

The building staff is OK, though most of their work is no better than a handy brother or uncle could do. The management office, on the other hand, is a joke. They act all simpathetic to your concerns on the phone, but probably laugh behind your back as they ignore your requests. I had absolutely horrible neighbors who were exposing my family to noises and other "things" I would never want. The building claimed they contacted them about my concerns, but if they did, those concerns went unnoticed. (I suspect the building didn't do a thing). I requested to be moved to a different apartment, but was told no. They said they won't move you until you're in the building a year, no matter how awful your situation is. After the year was up, it was "Sorry, no other apartments are available, but you can renew your current lease at a 15-20% rate hike".

I guess if you're lucky enough to live on a quiet floor, you'll be OK. The views are often quite wonderful, and the health club in the building is pretty good (though you only get a 20% discounted rate off as it's separately owned). Street parking is pretty much impossible within 5 blocks of the building, but there is a very expensive garage in the building ($300 a month). The doormen are usually very nice.

”
— 2600 NETHERLAND AVENUE · Bronx“I lived there for 3 years and there are certainly some good things I could say: The staff (repairmen, door men, concierge, are great people, things get fixed quickly, great neighborhood, beautiful views (it is the tallest building in the Bronx), it's quiet, and the schools are excellent. My problem is that nothing ever got updated. The cheap press down parqey floors are a definite throw back to the 70's as are the fixtures and come loose, the "modern" amenities, as the rental office like to call them are anything but - the dishwasher, range, and oven were at least 15-20 years old. The hallway carpeting does not look as though is has been changed in 25 years either. The windows are archaic, insecure, and often don't latch properly providing nasty drafts during winter months. The air conditioner/heating unit gets maintained spring and fall but you'll find it does little to change the temperature adequately so expect high energy bills. Also the air that this unit emits is horrible. Expect constant sinus infections and other respiratory problems. Most importantly the biggest gripe is the rent. Previously, the tenants were neighborhood folks but they obviously attempted to cater to the yuppie exodus which occurs when the Manhattan born baby becomes school age. The rents get jacked up 25% or more a year and forget negotiating. The management office are rude and inconsiderate, and THAT is IF you can get them on the phone. So basically expect to pay a lot and see no improvement. My rent went up $300 a month over the course of 3 years. I heard from another tenant that there was an elderly lady who had lived there for many many years and when her rent was raised she simply could not afford to pay it. The management office told her "then move."”
