“Pros: The location, but the location alone did not make living in this place worth it. Cons: This building is a slum. It is physically crumbling. There are cracks in the walls and ceilings, and paint peeling in the halls and units. There were rats living in the walls on the ground floor and tunneling under the basement from 2021-2024 (the floor down there was literal dirt). The halls do not get cleaned. The bathrooms are not water sealed, and there is mold in them. You will pay hundreds in utilities each month - heat and hot water are not included - and during the winter, you pay for the gas that heats forced hot water baseboard heating, which doesn't work well and has not been updated in decades. You may request repairs, but they will not be completed. A window in my bedroom was rotting out of the wall for almost two years with no fix despite repeated requests. A slightly lower rent than what is average for the area does not make up for the hell that you will endure living here. The heat is insufficient (below 60 degrees inside upwards of 15 times per year for the several years that I lived here), and the landlord's response to the heat being insufficient was "It's not my fault it's cold outside. There's nothing I can do about it." He then attempted to illegally evict me in response to my filing a 311 complaint. He received 9 housing violations as a result, NOT including the heat issue, which I can assure you has persisted. Live anywhere else.”

— 191 KNICKERBOCKER AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Location is great, down the street from great cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Building is on a busy street though and bedrooms overlook Knickerbocker so expect it to be noisy, especially in the summer. Cons: You’ll pay hundreds of dollars a month for heating and the apartment will rarely get above 68 in the winter. Made a written complain to the landlord about lack of heat, and response was “it’s not my fault it’s cold outside,” so we filed a 311 complaint. He then told us he would not renew our lease because we filed a complaint, which is flat out illegal. Building fixes are consistently bandaids over bullet holes. Don’t expect help for most of your issues. The super is NOT live in, but lives down the street. Building is generally in disrepair, rarely cleaned unless they’re actively finding a new tenant. Floors very slanted. Stayed for so long because the rent was good, but they’ve raised the price on every unit about $1000 when old tenants have moved out, and are making no major repairs to warrant the price jump.”
— 191 KNICKERBOCKER AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: I lived here for a few years. I liked the location, 8 min to the L, and that I only had 3 neighbors. It had great light for a railroad, at least on my side of the building. Cons: The owner is a nightmare. She does not listen, only yells, rarely responds to calls/texts. Plan on taking care of anything busted yourself. When we moved in, our refrigerator ROLLED thru the kitchen due to the lop sided floor. I had to put a 2x4 under the fridge to keep it in place. When we moved out, we left our place absolutely SPOTLESS with zero damage, sealed nail holes, etc. and we never saw our deposit back. Our neighbors were also moving out at the same time, I saw their empty apartment and it too, was nice and clean. They did not get their deposit back either. The landlord just keeps deposits, no explanation. And she never cleaned the disgusting hallway or fixed the busted mailboxes. You can’t get fed ex or Ups packages. No access. Knickerbocker Ave is LOUD. Big MAC trucks hitting potholes and horns will wake you early in the am, kids throwing up in trash cans, bar fights, loud street music. Advice to landlord: Get some therapy”
