“Pros: Cheap, prewar details, newer management is more responsive Cons: Loud unruly confrontational neighbors, poor insulation between floors makes bass carry. Advice to landlord: Enforce noise rules in the building”

“Pros: Honestly, just the location of the building and the east access to prospect park and Brooklyn museum. Cons: The apartment, irrespective of how clean it is, always had roaches. The neighbor is really REALLY loud and harassed us multiple times. Advice to landlord: Cleaning on garbage days isn’t enough. There are roaches.”

“Pros: Location is great Cons: Literally everything. The place is a mess, there are roaches and mice. So many HUGE houseflies. So many drain flies. Leaks all the time. No water pressure. Moldy bathroom. A neighbor who bangs on the wall so much that glasses fall and break. Advice to landlord: Invest in your building and do some repairs.”

“Unit B4 Pros: Cheap rent, though I think they raised our old unit. Cons: Terrible super who kept animals, neglected them and let them die outside our windows. Body count: 2 dogs?, 6 chickens, 2 rabbits. Mold, roaches, and mice in the walls. Ceiling caves in sometimes. Water pours into rooms. Owner seems to have no idea Ian is incompetent and disgusting. Trash area is a rat infested nightmare. Advice to landlord: Actually fix major leaks. Putting plaster of it is not enough. One day a bathtub is going to crush a tenant. Floors and walls are rotting. Hope the Hamptons is nice.”

“Pros: Super is responsive and lives on-site Cons: Issues with pest control in common areas and in unit Basement laundry is hit or miss; only one or two machines working at any given time Having issues with stolen packages Advice to landlord: Pest control needs to be a bigger priority, both within units and in common spaces”

“Pros: The location is the best thing here. Right next to prospect park. Cons: Mice problem that you’ll have to take care yourself. The floor is not leveled. It’s on a slant. Good luck with your back problems. You may have bed bugs at some point, oh and good luck trying to sleep with your neighbors making so much noise walking on old wood floors that haven’t been renovated since 1923. Advice to landlord: You suck maybe use some money to demolish the whole place. Stop tricking young and new apartment owners to live in this garbage.”

“Pros: Affordable building in a good area, relatively quiet. Cons: Very old large building so have had problems with pests. Renovations are shoddy.”

“Pros: Great neighborhood, elevator building, pay laundry in basement, rent-stabilized apartments. The super is very responsive and kind. It’s right on the 2345, so easy to get to. Cons: The roaches!!!!!!!! Even the massive ones that are usually just in the street make it into the apartments. The building is absolutely infested. Traps helped immensely, but everyone in the building needs to be using the same ones at the same time, or the roaches will just come back. Spraying doesn’t do anything. There are also reports of mice and rats in apartments, which you can see on the listing downstairs for tenants asking for pest assistance. You can also smell cigarette smoke coming through the walls, and bc it’s a old building you can hear all the tenants in the adjacent apartments.”

“Pros: Neighborhood: pretty streets, quiet, families, near park and good trains Size of bedroom + living room Cheap Cons: Super: misogynistic jerk, keeps animals and kills them through neglect in a courtyard that is visible to many units (also attracts rats), improperly fixes everything, yells at tenants, spends more time on his man cave than working on building, rude to women, passive-aggressive notes on wall Infestations: cockroaches and mice. Leaks: multiple ceiling collapses, water/pipe leaks Noise: distressed animals sounds, super's loud music Cleanliness: dirty floors, dirty smelly mop water, overflowing trash bins that attract rats, smoking in hallways, major leaks and water in common areas, possible mold/asbestos/lead, dirty water Management: passive aggressive notes, ignored requests, old faulty appliances, poor electricity, no notice for building work (example: wet paint or no running water with no signage. Advice to landlord: Fire your super. He sucks and wastes your money re-fixing simple jobs he failed to do right the first time.”

“Pros: Good Super, good neighbors, pet friendly Cons: Packages get stolen all the time, and i had a homeless person who refused to leave the hallway. Landlord did nothing and had to call the cops to get it sorted”
