“Pros: Rent stabilized, aspects of the neighborhood (so many grocery stores!), the layout and closet space is amazing Cons: The walls are super thin, some issues within the building (people smoking in the lobby, the buzzer in the apt didn’t work, less than responsive mgt, packages get stolen) Advice to landlord: Better insulation, faster maintenance, the super needs to address some of the tenant behavior”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 4M Pros: The building has beautiful bones, and so much potential. It’s a good community of neighbors! Cons: We have lead in our tap water coming from lead pipes in/just outside of the building, which the landlord has not yet replaced. The lobby area, stairs, halls, and elevators are rarely (if ever) cleaned, and we would love to see that happen! The courtyard is almost always filled with trash, in spite of community efforts to keep it clean. Packages are stolen regularly. Advice to landlord: Hire a weekly cleaner for public spaces (clean floors, windows, mirrors), hire a plumber to identify and replace lead pipes, replace shattered window on second floor that’s been covered with plywood, add a trash bin to the courtyard for people to dispose of their trash, repair out of order washers and dryers. I’m happy to update/improve my review when these circumstances change!”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 5j Pros: Generally neighbors are decent but some play VERY loud music in the middle of the day and at night Cons: ROACHES, ROACHES, ROACHES, also management is not responsive. I've had packages stolen from my doorstep multiple times and management refuses to look at the cameras Advice to landlord: sell the building to owners who actually care”
“Unit 6N Pros: Our apartment has plenty of closets. Cons: Our packages constantly got stolen because people would jam the front door open. They would shut off the hot water without warning. You have to exit the building and go around the side to do laundry and the ground isn’t even so there’s often puddles and planks of wood in the puddles to use to step over rather than just fixing the uneven ground. We complained about water leaking into our windows and water damage on the ceiling since we moved in and there still hasn’t been fixed after two years. Advice to landlord: Get a lock put in that isn’t so easily broken and jammed. And distribute tap cards to all the residents so they can access the building when the keys aren’t working.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Convenient location, access to Prospect Park Cons: Building management never addressed building-wise issues including: - tremendous water leaking (were told on multiple occasions that it was an overflowed bathtub - but when you talk to neighbors and we are all experiencing water leaking from our ceiling, it can't be one bathtub) - german cockroaches were everywhere. pest management was atrocious. - an electrical fire in the walls knocked out 8 units when we were living there - I found the door to roof locked (this is a fire code issue!!) - Landlord goes by about 6 different names, has been listed as top 10 'slumlords' by NYC Public Advocate and deals in incredibly shady business funneling city funds for a "non-profit" he runs to pay for the rent of certain tenants (that he charges ridiculous rates for). avoid this building at all cost. Advice to landlord: pick one name. let's start there.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: New appliances, good size apartments, a lot of natural light, renovated interiors, it has an elevator, laundry in building Cons: The neighbors are crazy! In more than one occasion we had issues with unattended teenagers smokings in the halls/elevators, verbally and physically attacking residents, package thefts by residents, pets peeing and pooping in the lobby, and rodents in the laundry room Advice to landlord: Take security issues more serious. Their advice was to always to call the police. I never felt safe living in this building”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: The super is great! The porter is too. Like any prewar building, the temperature control isn't great but it's definitely never cold in the winter. Good water pressure and consistent hot water. Cons: There are a few neighbors who can really make it hell for those around them. Trash is often overflowing. People smoke and drink in the hallways. Packages get stolen often because the front door lock is often broken. Advice to landlord: Fix the front door. Hold problematic tenants accountable.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: The best thing was the amount of space and storage and the super was friendly and responsive Cons: Public areas of building not maintained well by tenants and management Advice to landlord: Maintain building better”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 2F Pros: The apartment itself is large with lots of storage, especially for a 1 BR. That's literally it. I recommend you to google this building's address and the landlord. My mistake was not doing my research because I was in a rush to find a place. Hopefully I'm doing a favor for whoever's thinking of moving here. Cons: Lol. Well, my kitchen got demo'd 5 months after moving in because of a leak in the lobby that was "coming from my sink". By the way, the lobby was leaking when I moved in, so it was already an issue they didn't resolve. No warning on the construction by the way, they just started and went on for 6 hours without giving me any sort of heads up. But before that demo, they tore up my closet floor in the hallway as well to see if it was that pipe. It wasn't. The patch up job for both of those were absolutely terrible and disgusting. Leaving moldy, dusty residue all over my items. My downstairs neighbor came to me asking about sink flies. Yeah, my kitchen was infested too. I'm currently on my 3rd ceiling leak within two months. They won't fix it though, they'll just patch it up. The radiator poles go off at 5 am every morning, so you won't get your 8 hours. Hmm.. Oh one of the neighbors uses industrial speakers to listen to their music, which vibrates through my apartment. Which I've complained about, but nothing has happened. About 25% of my packages have been stolen because the lobby door doesn't lock, and it never has. Oh it's the first two freezing days of the year? Don't expect the heat to be on. It's really trashy outside your window if you're looking for a view. Elevators smell like piss. Each floor's trash unit is the size of a small hallway closet, meaning the trash and smell piles up. Meaning you'll have a couple roaches visit you here and there. Advice to landlord: Quit your job?”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: The unit itself wasn't terrible but the building is disgusting. Cons: Roaches, mold, trash, pee in the elevator. In the summer it's not bad but in the winter it stays 85 degrees with none of the radiators even open. Advice to landlord: Do better for your tenants.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: My apartment is nice, pretty quiet as well Cons: Lots of bugs!!!! Elevator smells”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: price, community, size of units Cons: lack of transparency, bugs”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 6N Pros: Close to prospect park Cons: Dirty. Noisy. Loud. Piss on the floor People outside loitering People smoking in hallways Garbage in hallways Loud music Kids in the hallway Packages get stolen No security It’s really disgusting And they won’t give security deposit back Advice to landlord: Shame Shame Shame you are the reason why renting in New York City sucks.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Close by stores , bars and not to far from the Q train Cons: A lot of noise in building with kids running around. Bad pipes had a bad leak from bathroom which caused it to need renovations.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Good location , neighborhood is decent. Good sized apartment Cons: Older finishing throughout building”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: The lobby has potential to be really nice if it was kept up. Cons: I won’t be able to type everything out. But search “60 Clarkson Avenue NYPD” to start. At least get to the NYTimes profile of what this building was in 2015 and then know that little has changed.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Good amount of room and new appliances in the apartment, which at the time had been recently renovated. The heat worked well. Mostly quiet street for NYC. Cons: Serious issues with neighbors. Frequent domestic disputes with police in the building often (we found out days after signing our lease that there had been a murder in the building one year prior). Smoking in the hallways. Absolutely gross hallways and stairways, elevators often had animal urine in them. Trash room would get disgustingly full. Rodents still got into our apartment even though it was renovated. A few roaches, too. Advice to landlord: Do something about crime on your properties, and put a LOT more effort into keeping it clean.”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: - lord of storage space in apartments - huge bedrooms - updated and recently renovated kitchen - but none of that is worth it compared to everything else you have to go through living in this building Cons: - landlord does not care about the building or the tenants and will not fix anything, assist in any issues with apartments or tenants. Think of it like you don’t have a landlord at all, because that’s pretty much what it is. - the building has some... problematic tenants that cause a lot of trouble and violence in the building, of which the landlord and police do nothing - thus building is so regularly riddled with violence and aggression that the cops no linger prioritize coming here. they regard this building as a joke - my apartment was quickly renovated after the previous tenants DIED in the apartment and absolutely nobody mentioned this to me prior to my moving in - there was no mention of a cockroach infestation until I moved my refrigerator and found an open hall filled with cockroach nests - the tenants in this building regularly disobey and disregard the rules posted through the building. They also purposely start fights and attack newer tenants in the building. - the building as a whole is not maintained at all. the outdoor courtyards are riddled with garbage and rotten, moldy furniture. Trash rooms on each floor are overflowing into the hallway on an almost daily basis. Stairs are broken and rarely fixed. The elevators are out nearly every day and people often get trapped in them. - thus building also has a very serious theft problem. some tenants in the building take joy in attempting to (and sometimes succeeding) in breaking into other tenants apartments. it is also best to never have your mail delivered to the building, as mail gets stolen within seconds and again, the landlord does absolutely nothing about it. - all in all, I would suggest you do everything in your power to avoid living in this building. Advice to landlord: take better care of the building and tenants!! if you do so, you will attract more tenants, and tenants who will stay for a long time and become loyal. This disregard you have for this building and your tenants, yet you still expect us to pay rent in full every month? It’s astonishing”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Water pressure is great, no problem with heat. Super and porter are both nice and helpful. Cons: Building is very dirty, on the weekends there is often trash strewn everywhere and overflowing compactor rooms. The elevators always smell of urine. People leave so much trash in the stairwells and I often see and smell people smoking cigarettes and weed in the hallways. Management never responds to maintenance tickets. HUGE problem with package theft and management doesn’t do anything or respond to tenant complaints. There is often dog pee inside the lobby. Front door lock is always having problems -- either difficult to open or completely missing. I've had bedbugs in this building, I don't know why that isn't reflected in the bedbug status of this building (I suspect it's because the building doesn't report the info to the city that they are supposed to). Advice to landlord: Respond to maintenance tickets in a timely fashion, clean the halls, take care of the trash problem, figure out some way to keep the mail area secure”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Renovated apartments (only some are renovated) are fantastic, monthly exterminator but very few bugs anyway. Cons: Everything outside your door is a dumpster: screaming fights in the hallway at all hours, smoking in the hallway that comes through the door, trash and human filth in the elevators, roof access is not allowed and alarmed. Advice to landlord: Hire building security to keep some degree of peace”
— 60 CLARKSON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Close proximity to the train Cons: The noise, the sanitation issues, the constant home repairs needed due to other apartments leaking. Advice to landlord: Don’t just patch up old apartments and make them look new.”
