“Pros: friendly building staff, clean, close to transit. Cons: loud if you are on the side of the building overlooking Bar primi”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Well maintained, responsive super, nice doormen, no stolen packages, renovated Cons: A/C had black dust/dirt coming out of it even after maintenance dropped by, the heat in the building is central and was irregular during the winter (wouldn't be turned on during colder days and on when it wasn't as needed), it gets a bit noisy given it's around Penn and on occasion, there's some homeless people around but didn't make you feel unsafe on the street as there are a lot of people around all times throughout the day.”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Good door men, clean lobby, not noisy Cons: Eh location, too hot, smelled Advice to landlord: Get AC”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Although it is an older building the apartments are nice and great location. The garbage management is great and the doormen are great! Cons: The building is on a busy street so if you are sensitive to noise it can be too loud even on a higher floor.”
“Pros: - really good unit layout (probably unit dependent) and was able to flex the apartment while having windows in every room + living room - fixed issues pretty promptly Cons: - ceiling paint peeled whenever there was a lot of rain. not a big deal just a little annoying - 1 of the 3 non service elevators is occasionally wonky or out of service. Generally not disruptive in day to day life - I’m a sensitive sleeper and street noise pretty audible even in the top floors. Ear plugs at night generally do the job”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: building staff are great, apartment appliances are nice, never had issues w pests/bugs Cons: construction noises at night, elevators often not working”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Location, price, layout Cons: Noise, traffic and no double pane windows”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Doormen, Laundry, Gym, transportation, elevators Cons: Noise from Moynihan train hall construction. I’m sure it’s better now. Advice to landlord: Soundproofing the windows!”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 7G Pros: Staff was very nice, everything was well maintained, maintenance requests were responded to quickly, we saw no pests in our year there, apartment was spacious with big closets Cons: Heat was a bit too high for a bit too long, sometimes maintenance projects took too long”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Clean and nice area Cons: Sometimes rude doormen”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: The staff was always very nice. It was a pre-war building so I didn't really hear my upstairs or next door neighbors. Pet friendly. Allowed for a full wall so I was able to split the rent with a roommate Cons: The elevators broke down from time to time but there were 3 working elevators. There was some construction noise from the building next to ours.”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Convenient location Friendly staff Cons: High rent Not great management”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: I just moved out of this apartment building - was lucky enough to get one of the renovated units right after they finished work, so I'm sad to leave. The doormen ranged from chill/indifferent to friendly/useful, which I'm totally OK with. I think they've done a decent job making an aging building attractive to someone looking for a nicely finished unit without being in a supremo luxury building. The new in-unit finishing is pretty great - pleather lined sinks and med cabinets, slow-closing drawers and cupboards. The common areas like the gym and laundry rooms should be updated soon to keep up with the rest of the common areas. I wasn't able to work out a renewal with the landlord, but didn't have any issues with them (though I was a bit surprised they weren't willing to adjust my rent even towards the covid-market rates). Note that between the front entrance and the 8th Ave subway, there's an AMC that has closed down due to the pandemic and its generous awning has attracted some homeless folks who are looking for shelter. Cons: I must say, if you're considering moving here - the construction noise you will face will be impossible to avoid. With an old building like this, you are going to have a hard time - surrounded not only by construction work on the new Manhattan West building and the new Penn Station, but also consistent road/wiring work along 34th, involving drilling, that often starts at 8p and ends around 5am. I spoke to the foreman of a couple of these sites about 'how many weeks' more they expected this to go on and was sort of laughed off with a 'more like how many months or more, bud'. Further, on the internal forum for tenants, people would regularly share complaints like the one attached and it is in line with my experience. I am not a light sleeper, but found myself to become increasingly anxious and sensitive to the noise in the final months of my occupancy. You can't really deal with construction noise with white noise or earplugs when you *feel* the tremors in bed. I feel like The Sloane would be a great place to live in a couple of years when the surrounding area stabilizes a bit and more units complete their renovations. I'll miss my apartment and some of the staff, but I will not miss the sleepless nights. Advice to landlord: File more 311 requests on behalf of your tenants!”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Well maintained, good doorman Cons: Location is very louder Advice to landlord: Don’t have any”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Doorman building Decent amount of room Okay amenities Not many issues experienced Cons: Doorman have been inefficient and bigotted Amenities were closed for a majority of my 16 month lease Pricy Area could be safer”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Great doormen and clean space Cons: Very loud always Advice to landlord: Nothing you can do about construction noise”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Nice doormen, feels safe Cons: Management is horrible”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Convenient location and laundry on every floor Cons: Noise levels are absurd. Whichever way you're facing, youre bound by loud noise. Facing north or west, you have super loud noise from a really busy intersection Facing south, you have a really loud construction site since theyre building out the the top portion of the Moynihan station. They even do construction through into the night Management is extremely poor. Responsiveness as well as action taking is disappointing. We've had 2 months of no gas with not much communication. We had no one we could talk to since it took them weeks to respond to emails Advice to landlord: Please step it up. Youre charging an arm and leg for disappointing management services”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Nice doorman and staff Cons: Building management is unresponsive Advice to landlord: Reply to tenents”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Convenient location Clean & well maintained building Cons: Difficult and irresponsible management A bit overpriced Noisy neighbors Can be too crowded for the location”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: The building is beautiful and is kept really well. The gym is small but nice! Cons: The management is extremely difficult! They are unorganized and unresponsive. They tried to bill us for rent when we had already moved out. Advice to landlord: Work on organization and responsiveness to tenants.”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: garbage shute, kept clean Cons: they turned the gas off for a month (no burners, laundry dryer) and didn’t care Advice to landlord: give us reimbursements for all the extra food cost given no one month’s gas!”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 4J Pros: The location is very busy, but very convenient. Tends to die down at night which is nice but during the day it can be very busy right at the door. The building staff is very friendly, and the doormen are all on top of it (except for one...) If you're in a remodeled apartment, the appliances are very fairly new. Cons: Management is basically unresponsive. Our rent increased by over $1000 YoY. They don't care about retaining tenants, all about the $$$ Advice to landlord: Do better to create a community, maybe people will stick around longer”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Brand new kitchens/bathrooms, pretty lobby, and full amenities. Cons: A little overpriced and the doormen are sometimes rude or not sober. Also, the surrounding area is polluted with homeless people/drugs but hey that’s New York!”
— 354 WEST 34 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Nice amenities and good sized apartments Cons: Not the best location, sometimes noisy construction, and apartment could be more updated Advice to landlord: Update the rest of the apartments”
