“Pros: Building is clean and maintained with respectful neighbors. Amazing location with train access and local restaurants. Cons: ELECTRIC BILL IS CONSISTENTLY OVER $200!!!!! FOR NEARLY ALL UNITS!!!!! Advice to landlord: This is a great building, but be prepared to spend more then what is asked. Hot water is not included, because you pay for the electric to heat the hot water.”
— 62 EAST 21 STREET · Brooklyn“Unit 2D Pros: The apartments have great bathrooms and the apartments have nice fixtures and details. I liked the layout of my one bedroom. Laundry is in the basement which is great when it’s working. Cons: Honestly, I would advise you don’t live here. I’ve lived here several years and feel the general maintenance of the building has gone way down. The porter does his best but the super is unresponsive and does not take responsibility for anything. Things like repairs of the elevator, laundry machines, heating, and hot water heaters were major issues that were never dealt with promptly. The water heaters are electric and the building is extremely inefficient, resulting in costs of 100-300 dollars per month for electricity in a one bedroom. I found the management company to completely lack care for the tenants and I did not enjoy dealing with them or giving them thousands of dollars a month. At one point, packages were getting stolen multiple times a day and bikes were stolen twice out of the locked bike room. Management would not give camera footage to anyone and would not/did not change the door code for weeks despite multiple calls and complaints. It does not feel like management cares at all. Advice to landlord: Respond to issues promptly, don’t act as though asking for the things we pay for is a bother to you. Take care of the building and help tenants figure out why HVAC and hot water heaters are constantly not working properly. Maintain the common areas and make actual fixes to things like laundry and elevator.”
— 62 EAST 21 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: The porter was very responsive. The super didn’t really seem to care a lot but was responsive to an extent. Cons: In the summer, i started getting roaches but after pest control sprayed once, they stopped. Not great light. Elevator sometimes wasn’t working and shared laundry room gets dirty sometimes because of shedding animals. Advice to landlord: Lower rent”
— 62 EAST 21 STREET · Brooklyn“Unit 1A Pros: There's on-site laundry, roof access, minisplit A/C in-unit, easy access to the Q, there's an on-site gym. Cons: The gym smells terrible, I don't think it gets sanitized. The dryers take forever to dry, and the washing machines can't handle medium size loads. The management can take a long time to respond to support requests, if you live on the first floor be prepared to hate it. During the summer the residents from neighboring buildings will set up speakers on the street and play loud music until 2a - 3a. Living in the front first floor units is noisy, the front door can slam, if the fire panel is broken it will beep for days. Advice to landlord: Sanitize the gym and get better washers and dryers.”
— 62 EAST 21 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Very clean, excellent super. Neighbors in the building very friendly, lots of dogs! Cons: Be prepared to pay upwards of $500 in the winter to heat your apartment and still be freezing. This was truly one of the worst things about living here- our bedroom was 43 degrees several mornings and with the cost of utilities rising continuously, we were at a loss. Had to have someone come by multiple times to fix a draft and they finally said “it’s just how these windows are” and suggested I turn up the heat. Walls are also very thin, you can heat everything in the hallway. Have had issues with packages being stolen, people sleeping in the elevator, someone stole our supers bike out of the basement. Advice to landlord: Replace the doors on the balconies so that they seal and we can heat our apartments without costing us a literal fortune.”
— 62 EAST 21 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: The building is new, well managed, and clean. I’ve never had issues with mail getting stolen or generally feeling unsafe in the building. The other people living in the building are pretty friendly. The gym is small, but barely used, so it’s nice to get in there when you don’t feel like going to your local gym. Cons: Paying for heat this winter has been ridiculously expensive (upwards of $600/mo). This has been a problem for multiple people in the building and has been an issue for more than this year (given increased heating costs). And generally, it feels like the bedrooms don’t retain heat that well, especially if one of the rooms has two external walls. Also, there are 4 washers and dryers and half of them are out of order every now and again.”
