— 237 EAST 53 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 5b Pros: Location: decent restaurants, very close to subway, relatively safe Cons: Noisy corporate tenants on ground level; superintendent is good but owners show very little care for the building; halfway house on block hosts homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics, and recently released inmates, all of which cause various issues; laundry units are shared with restaurants which leave food debris, washers don't clean well, dryers can't handle large loads; rent is about $100/sqft on annualized basis which is far too high, trash management is poor, space between buildings is absolutely filthy, stairway is smelly; windows are never cleaned; doors have large gaps that leak air; intercom is constantly broken. Advice to landlord: Improve the units”
— 237 EAST 53 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Absolutely nothing about this place Cons: EVERYTHING! -apartments are rented to jerks who don’t care what time of day it is, they’ll smoke weed and blast music at 4 am on a Tuesday night -if you like cockroaches and mice in your apartment this is the place for you -your packages will get stolen -the Super is the absolute worst human on the planet. Want people to walk through your apartment without you knowing? You’ve come to the right place -did I say mice already? -the management company is the worst people you’ll have to deal with -ceiling leaks and no response from management! Advice to landlord: You should be ashamed of yourselves for running the most disgusting building in manhattan that should be imploded”
— 220 EAST 25 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: No bugs in apartment Cons: Noise from neighbors and old appliances”
— 237 EAST 53 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Units are large, painted bright white, nice hardwood floors. Semi-updated bathrooms. Multiple windows allowing for a lot of natural light. Street is full of restaurants, safe to live on. Cons: Management is horrendous. Mice constantly in 5th floor walk up. Super avoided solving the mice problem, I decided to call an exterminator, and management wouldn’t pay for it. Turned against me and said I violated my lease. Ignored my phone calls and emails. Same thing happened again when I needed my locks changed/fixed. Called a locksmith and they refused reimbursement. Again calls and emails were ignored. Ended up filing with the small claims court since they were unwilling to settle things. Super is hit or miss with solving problems in a timely manner. Was able to get a new stove quickly after my original one stopped working. However it took over 6 months to get a simple door sweep installed (which wasn’t there upon move in, and attributed to the mice issue). Advice to landlord: Hire better management, overall, do better.”
