“The Sheffield was impeccable but unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my host. Not only did his apartment wreak of taco seasoning but he had the audacity to eat 3 of my 7 cookies. Good apartment, bad hombre. Can't remember his name but I do know that he was named after a cheap Japanese watch.”

“I stayed with a "friend" who lives in the building for one night recently. I thought the building was nice, I enjoyed the pool and the steam room. However this guy ruined the whole trip for me. First of all he ate most of my cookies and didn't even thank me for them. I went out with family and he didn't return my calls. He left my luggage on the street where it got picked apart by the homeless. I'm very upset. I will never stay there again. I give the building 5 stars, but I give my host 0 stars.”

“The Sheffield NYC, Unit 40M, not advisable to rent. Be careful! We had a very bad experience. We had many problems with the unit, and the broker never answered to our claims, nor the owner was very helpful living in Europe. Besides all our problems, and the bad attention, we had to pay a lot of extras to make the unit comfortable, and solving problems that should be managed by the owner. Some of the problems we had were the following: We found bed-bugs, and had to leave the apartment for one week. The owner did not pay for the hotel we had to stay. And do not mention all the trouble we have been through by moving out (without any help of the owner, nor the broker). The air conditioner didn t work for the first month, and it was summer!!! The broker didn t do nothing about it. We had to do all the arrangments on our own, and in our own time. Showers in the bathrooms without proper maintenance and without sealed pipe where roaches enter. Bedrooms without black out curtains. It is impossible to sleep. We had to buy some curtains on our own, not simple if you don t want to spend money or don t want to do a hole in the wall. Our experience in this unit was really a nightmare. I do not recommend to stay in this unit. Nor the broker, nor the owner are to be recommended.”

“I believe I lived in apartment 17G. Got it ahead of 15 other people because my agent got me there first, Lily Sopher I believe. I was thrilled. Health club on the roof, great doormen, excellent location. Two absolutely wonderful years living in New York. Met many people but one young lady that I fell in love with. We spent great times there but we parted ways regretably...wow. wonderful memories. I am so sorry to hear that this building is not as great as it once was...And I paid about $950 for 17G, a one bedroom apartment on the 57th street side.”

“for the price, its not luxurious. i had bugs. there's constant scaffolding and construction. the water isn't always hot. and the shower pressure is more of dribble than full blast because its an older building, so the internal plumbing etc is old despite the newly renovated interior. the floors suck the worst, they used cheap floors that sit on top of mini-stilts which make a lot of creaking noises when with every step, and they dirty easily because its not solid wood, its veneered planks.”

“1. LOUD DRILLING AND CONSTRUCTION occurs mon-fri starting at 8AM. It shakes your apartment and you even with TV on highest volume, you still can't hear the TV. They said it would be over in a month and that was 8 months ago... and there is still construction. 2. THERE IS NO GYM/TENNIS/POOL- We were told that it would be ready and open to the public by June 2009. It's April 2010 and it is still closed and completely under construction. They also refuse to answer how long it will be before it reopens, but it is still under massive construction. We were promised these amenities and never once saw them. DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LIVING HERE.”

“I moved in 6 weeks ago and have been dealing with bug problems. One water bug, and tons of silverfish bugs. They like to live in moisture and because the Sheffield has cheap laminant floorboards with lots of gaps, they live down there and come up at night. After 6 consecutive weeks of extermination (spraying chemicals and leaving monitor glue traps), there are still silverfish coming out. It's really disgusting and for the rent I am paying I shouldn't have to deal with this.”

“theis is a converted condo building . its built in the 70's the conversion started in 2006. If you buy and sublet a renovated unit u will get squeaky floors, some units are getting floods. The wooden floors are on pegs(although the model apartments dont have them) because they didnt want to spend money to even out the concrete.this makes the squueks . the health club wont be ready for a long time.dont believe any dates or get it in writing as of march 2008 there is still water shutoffs and construction noise . get any promise in writing. imo dont pay new construction prices for a building with old infrastructure. besides prices will drop all over manhattan with upcomin Wall St layoffs.”

“JUST MOVED INTO A SUPPOSSIDLY NEW APT FLOORS ARE WARPED THE FINISH OF THE APT IS BELOW AVERAGE TO HORRIBLE DELIVERED WITHOUT NEW WINDOWS AS PROMISED WILL REPLACED MAYBE IN 6-8 MONTHS NO ONE TO SPEAK TO THAT CAN MAKE A DECISION POOL AND HEALTH CLUB ALSO IN THE DISTANT FUTURE G=D KNOWS WHATS GOING ON BEHIND THE WALLS FOR WHAT THEY DELIVERED THEY ARE EITHER LOSING MONEY OR A BUNCH OF GRIDDY PEOPLE”

“Pinnicle Construction involved in the conversion was listed as one of the 10 worst construction firms in the City. Owner Swig walked away from his San Fransisco Conversion Project and stiffed the Banks. He has numerous violations of his building permits, many of which have been pulled. He is in violation of City safty regulations and has lied consistantly about all aspects of his conversion. To make matters worse, he is harassing rent stabilized tenants who have a right to stay in the building. His model apartments are of shabby construction. Don't walk but run away from this building!”

“Architectural eyesore. Nothing above the first few floors is going to look different post-conversion. Low ceilings since the building started as a massive apartment complex...nothing can be done about this. Possible blocked views to the North. Pool pictured on the webite might not look as nice in real life but you will not know for another year. No obligation since that is just an artist rendering. Nice materials are no less important than good installation. And obviously, the building is not registered as being 57 floors with the city...do a search.”

“My wife and I spent a wonderful year at the Sheffield (2005). The house is in great condition, the location is great. What more can you expect?”

“My wife and I are entering into our second year at the Sheffield. We are delighted with the maintenance, service and location. We have a one Bedroom Apt on a high floor. Any minor problems are quickly solved by the hard working maintance staff. The Front Desk personnel are always friendly and go out of their way to help...always with a smile.<br> The full service spa, health club and pool are kept in pristine condition-and because the pool is indoors, is available all year long at very reasonable rates. The views are 360 and from the 50th floor! The views from our apt are also excellent. <br> Our location at 57th and 8th speaks for itself.<br> If you have a car, you can park it in the private garage that you can enter directly from your bld. the current rates are 385 per month. Also be aware that Herst is contructing a new building on the south east side of the Sheffield,so you will have to consider your apt location, and floor with care. In perspective however, new building goes along with living in manhattan. <br> <br> We love it here.”
