“Pros: Location is great, no pests Cons: It’s so poorly insulated, you can hear your neighbors sneeze. There are chronic leaks in the building that are interfering with the electrical system and were never addressed. If you have a complaint or something needs to be fixed, the landlord just sends a super to basically tell you to get over it. The landlord won’t do anything and will try to screw you over but isn’t a complete nut job. Document everything. Advice to landlord: Fix the leaks jeez”
— 628A PRESIDENT STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: The location is great, the apartments are a good size. You never have to see or speak with the landlord. Cons: We had major water leaks for years that didn't get addressed and ruined our property. At one point the front door knob to the building fell off, and it wasn't repaired for months, until 311 was called. There was a dangerous gas leak in the building that was repaired by the landlord's family (no proof they were certified/licensed to do the work). The building had no cooking gas for weeks and had to stay home from work to let the workers in, and the landlord refused to discount the rent. Finally, after many years as a tenant, paying rent on time 100% of the time, the landlord raised the rent as high as she legally could, in the middle of Covid. That's when we left. Overall, the owner is a slum lord who refuses to do even the most basic maintenance to keep her buildings habitable and safe. Advice to landlord: I'm amazed the building hasn't fallen down yet. There will need to be major structural repairs done, not just superficial ones in order to raise the rent.”
