“Pros: Friendly neighbors, amazing staff Cons: Big company took it over so they care a little less about us as individuals but service requests are timely Advice to landlord: Get to know your tenants! Care for them”
— 379 WASHINGTON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 2F Pros: building has high ceilings, natural light, generally clean, very quiet, online task management system worked well, provided quick service for issues. super is the best! Cons: upkeep has gone down hill since 2020 when there were employees in the building daily. however, it still feels well maintained. akelius would not clean windows around lease renewal. packages could be stolen easily.”
— 379 WASHINGTON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Overall it's clean, neighbors keep to themselves and are pretty quiet, great super. Cons: Packages are often stolen; heat issues in the winter; rent increases can be pretty signifant year-to-year.”
— 379 WASHINGTON AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Akelius is super responsive to tenant repair and troubleshooting needs. A+ for communication and accessibility! Maintenance staff are enthusiastic, personable and professional. Cons: Gentrification has ruined diversity because rents are through the roof at market rates. No new black tenants have moved in over the last 3 years since Akelius took over the Mohawk, because new rents are affordable only by the wealthy (who are all white.) Akelius will not offer deals and will not negotiate with legacy tenants who are being priced out of the market. Advice to landlord: Provide low income units to people of color and stop the persistent diversity crush and relentless “whitewashing” of Akelius buildings. Offer infrastructure repairs to legacy tenants in rent stabilized apartments who need new flooring, bathroom installments, or closets, without charging more rent. Ban the use of noisy, inefficient, diesel fume producing leaf blowers to clean a few leaves off the sidewalks, where a broom and dustpan would suffice. The noise and air pollution are offensive and harmful.”
