“Pros: The neighbors and the location are the best parts Cons: Maintenance of the building.”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“Unit B1 Pros: I like that most of my neighbors have lived here for 2+ years. Shows loyalty and that I got a good deal. We have a laundry room in the building. Shout out to my landlord who handles my requests in a timely manner. Love the location and safety of the unit. Does not get too crazy hot in the winter. My appliances are all new, so that is nice. Cons: There’s a bit of a pest problem, but after having the exterminator come in a couple of times this summer, it seems to be improving. I wish the laundry room machines didn’t need coins. I would prefer paying rent through an online system versus check. Advice to landlord: Please update the system where we could pay rent electronically”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Great location, there's an elevator and the upkeep for the apartment building is pretty consistent. Super comes almost immediately to fix issues. Neighbors are great, really chill building. Cons: The elevator door gets stuck every day and sometimes people get stuck in it. Mouse problem for a few months. 75% of the tenants are being ghosted by the landlord on renewing leases. They will not respond to any of us or will say some excuse saying they're busy and haven't gotten to it. We're all almost a year without a lease renewal sitting on the edge nervous that we'll be kicked out at any moment. Advice to landlord: Answer us.”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“The apartments have a great spatial layout and location is very convenient to the subway and restaurants. However, building has issues with leaks, heat going out on cold days, the building isn't kept up well or clean, and there are issues with theft.”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“The owners and super of this building do not care about their tenants. The hot water was out at least 8 times last winter, the heat is either not working at all, or is so high you need to run your AC. The elevator goes out frequently. The apartments are large and its in a good neighborhood which is the only reason they can get away with such terrible management. I have lived in several buildings in NYC and never experienced anything quite this bad. I'm not sure who this good reviews are from because all of the other tenants I interact with are equally dissatisfied.”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“I lived in this building for a year on the 5th floor. I would have to recommend it, despite the high price (this is prospect heights). I'll start with the cons to get the bad news out of the way first. 1.) The apartments are not in immaculate shape. My appliances all work, my space stays warm, but they don't make an effort to repair simple things like small holes in walls. The shower is a plastic shell fitted inside the bathroom. Expect to see Spackle from your apts previous tenants. 2.) The super is diligent, but very strict. Do your recycling properly 3.) The walls are a bit on the thin side. Now, I have a duplex in the building, and am a musician. I was happy that I never got a noise complaint. But, I could hear my neighbors often when I was lying downstairs in my bed- it sounded like we shared the same wall. 4.) The shower takes a while to heat up 5.) The elevator breaks, but is always fixed promptly (within two days or so) 6.) The front could be more secure. The cons were really not significant. Now the pros! AMAZING neighborhood. extremely low crime, right across the street from the police/fire station- you have access to almost every subway, the atlantic terminal mall, close to barclays, and the "infamous" park slope. The building has BLASTING heat in the winter. This is so much better than having it too cold. If it's too hot, just open a window. I've never seen any: Bedbugs, roaches, mice/rats. The only things I have are silverfish (who cares) and centipedes (who cares). Overall, the staff is prompt, the tenants quiet, the area nice, the building good. Just hope you get that raise at work to afford it :-)”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“The bad review here is just crazy to me. I have never once had the hot water go out. One time the front door wasn't shutting securely so I called the landlord and he had it fixed within the hour. Any time I have called him, he has addressed my concern the same day. The super is nice and reliable. Neighbors are friendly and watch out for one another. I have never once seen a bug. I really enjoyed my experience living here.”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“I lived on the second floor and I never had any of those problems. Sometimes I could hear noise from above me, but not that often. There's a lot of space, and I loved living here.”
— 528 BERGEN STREET · Brooklyn“I've been living at this address for 2 years, since the building was first built. I viewed the apartments and saw a clean, modern building with ample space, a block from the subway. I signed the lease. Big mistake. The apartments are far too connected, it's almost like living in a dorm. The walls are practically made out of cardboard. You hear *everything* around you. I have a woman with a baby next door, and I hear her baby crying all the time. In my bedroom, I can hear their breakfast conversation clearly. Not shouting and screaming, things like "could you pass the milk" and "did you see this in the paper." I only assume they hear me, as well. My downstairs neighbor likes to watch basketball. I know this, because I hear his TV the moment he turns it on. What's worse, he smokes, and it makes my apartment smell, too. In fact, I've set off my neighbor's smoke detectors by cooking on my own stove. A simple, clearly spoken "Sorry!" from my own kitchen was enough, as I knew they could hear me. The walls are already separating from the floor, because they were poorly built. I've put up a few very small shelves, all of which have started to come out of the wall. I'm now using toggle bolts to hold up an 18" long shelf in my bathroom, where I hold vitamins, floss, and other lightweight items. The windows leak cold air like you wouldn't believe in the winter. The heat that's provided is not enough to make up for it. I'm 29, male, a little overweight, and run VERY warm. I wake up shivering if I don't turn on the electric heater at night. That's how bad it is. The super, while a very nice guy, is about 1000 years old, legally blind, and mostly useless. The two washers and dryers that were promised, became just one of each. Each costs $2 to run, and is about half the size of the machines you'll find at a laundromat. The elevator breaks all the time. The hot water goes out at least twice a week. The lights by the front door haven't been turned on for about a month. The front door doesn't always latch shut, which means anybody can just stroll right in. The building just sucks, that's the long and short of it.”
