“Pros: Owner is somewhat responsive Cons: Unit is old and dirty”
— 187 METROPOLITAN AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 3 Pros: Great location in Williamsburg. Friendly neighbors. "Affordable" rent. Cons: Persistent leaks in 3rd floor unit in back room and living room. Mold under floor boards, under bathroom caulking, and other areas that were unable to be removed by a tenant. Lack of adequate security systems (no buzzer, simple lock on front door). Lack of smoke detectors. Inefficient electric heating (bills over $700 a month in winter) with poor building insulation. Poor communication by landlord and agent (allowed a new tenant to move in before my lease was up, assumed I had moved because some of our items were moved before end of our lease, sent in cleaner without our permission who threw away some of our items). Advice to landlord: Maintain your property”
— 174 ROEBLING STREET · Brooklyn“Unit 3 Pros: Washer dryer and location are big perks Cons: Apartment wasn’t cleaned, painted or repaired prior to move in. Any complaints made to the landlord were handled with quick patch jobs but the apartment had some fundamental issues. Advice to landlord: Invest in the proper cleaning and repair of your apartments”
— 185 METROPOLITAN AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: The building has only two floors and two units, and it is quiet. Otherwise there is nothing positive to say about this place. Cons: No fire alarms, no carbon monoxide alarms, the water barely ran, sometimes there was no hot water, heat only worked in one room during the winter, and the building’s front door handle was loose, basically ready to fall off. The ceiling started crumbling and was caving in (most likely due to water damage that keeps getting neglected). Advice to landlord: Stay AWAY from this building at all costs. The landlord is very shady and has a horrible track record (he is a notorious scumlord). He refuses fix the issues in the apartment and will even blame them on you. This apartment building is basically illegal and very unsafe for people to live in.”
