“Pros: Next to fire station Cons: Upon receiving the keys for the first time the toilet was used and not flushed, dirty water from all the pipes and the shower clogged, AC was on 60 but felt like 80. Horrible urine smell in the hallway that seeps into the rooms. Dried cement and paint on the windows and floors. Nothing was cleaned and we were promised new appliances but most if not everything is used. No cameras in the hallways, walls need to be repainted and fire sign is broken. The realtor acted like he didn't know the owner changed the keys to ensure we did not get to view the apartment before giving the first check. When we have complaints, we have to go through the landlord's agent who will take responsibility for nothing.”
— 338 EAST 14 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: monthly pest control - spray and glue traps if you ask allows pets new appliances Cons: Unresponsive building management and supers that leave after a few months Little to no notice when the water gets shut off, and the same is true with construction being done in the building (units get renovated poorly after a tenant leaves, jacking up the price for the next one) Broken virtual doorman for months, so many stolen packages It took several hours for someone to check on a heavy leak, and when they did get around to it days later, they just caulked it over.”
— 338 EAST 14 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 1B Pros: Close to the east village Cons: Ownership and location on 14th street Advice to landlord: Pay more attention to your building and tenants”
“Pros: -great neighborhood -reasonable price -natural light Cons: -fire department next door is loud -insulation is bad and heat doesn’t work well, so space heaters are mandatory -air vents are dirty making apartment get dusty quickly Advice to landlord: Clean air vents and turn on heat in winter”
— 338 EAST 14 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: The location is great, the building is clean(ish), and the apartment was fairly large given the price. The other tenants were nice and the building was overall pretty quiet. The super is very nice. Cons: The landlord was generally unresponsive when things went wrong (leaking ceiling, etc.). The top floor is very cold in the winter (low 60s). Most importantly, be warned that the landlord will almost certainly find a reason to withhold your security deposit! (And will probably string you along for a few months by saying it's in the mail). Although I didn't have a terrible experience, I would overall not recommend moving here because of the issues with management. Unless you are a lawyer and enjoy taking landlords to court, in which case, good luck and please know that I am rooting for you! Advice to landlord: Fix the heat on the top floor, hire actual professionals to make repairs, and return people's security deposits”
