RIP my beloved turtlenecks. Extremely thin walls. I cry at how thin they are Advice to landlord: Please be more responsive to repair requests”

“Pros: Near to Columbia University; some apartments have in-unit washer-dryers. Management is generally responsive to service requests. Cons: Some rooms face out onto the subway (which run 24h) AND Broadway, not to mention that the building is right above a bar and the noise can continue late into the night. The rooms facing the subway / street are extremely noisy. The building is also old so we’ve had a bit of a roach problem even though the exterminator comes once a month and we keep our apartment extremely clean.”

“Pros: Clean building with pleasant neighbors. A short walk to Columbia in a fun area to live. Management is very organized and responsive Cons: It’s a little close to the train so occasionally can be somewhat noisy, but management has taken measures like properly sealing windows etc to limit the noise Advice to landlord: We appreciate that you provide AC units, but maybe turn the heat down in the springtime. We found ourselves having to open the windows as the weather changed to cool off the apartment”

“Pros: Has washer/dryer in unit, above cool bar and other restaurants, near Riverside Park. Pet friendly. Seemingly polite neighbors. Sort of a Columbia U student building. Cons: Where to start... The first year was okay. Few minor problems but nothing I haven’t experienced in apartment city living. Then the second year...its like a fever dream. September rolled around and so did the cockroaches. ALL OVER. Everyday. In every room, in the dishwasher, in the coffee maker. And the roaches brought their friends, the mice. The mice also explored every room, including our beds. The property was no help, we had to buy pest traps and manage the whole problem on our own (until FINALLY they sent a helpful exterminator instead of just the super). Other problems we’ve dealt with: mold in the bathroom (since there’s no ventilation), drain flies and pantry moths, stolen packages from the first floor, 85+ degree temps in the winter since there is absolutely no temperature control, broken appliances, internet outages (this is a spectrum only building), etc etc. Literally the only saving grace is the location (which can also be problematic at times but is generally cool) and the in-unit washer/dryer. Advice to landlord: Stop charging absurd rates for such a poorly maintained place. This whole building as a pest infestation and something needs to be done about it from your end — like exterminate the ENTIRE apartment complex. Don’t just make the unit look nice on the surface level (thanks for adding poorly installed hardwood floors that splinter and appliances that are secured to the wall allowing mice to crawl through), but actually keep up the care.”
