157 EAST 57TH STREET · avg 3.7 ★★★★★ · New York City
“Pros: Location because it was convenient to what I needed Cons: Everything. This building is old with no amenities yet they charge nearly luxury rent prices. There were small and big roaches, so you have to be on top of allowing the exterminator in every month. Skip a month at your own risk. The hallway carpeting would smell dank when it rained. Advice to landlord: Upgrade the building.”
— 157 EAST 57 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: - elevators - doormen - lobby renovations Cons: - laundry expensive and there's no way to match up the amount you're forced to load onto your card with the cost of a load of laundry (you're forced to leave money on the table/overload your card) - lived here for 3 years. the super was difficult to deal with, condescending, and not responsive”

— 157 EAST 57 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: The building is very well kept! The doormen are the best and will always keep an eye out for you. Units are fairly large. Cons: Management is not responsive, but on-site super will quickly help deal with any small issues.”
— 157 EAST 57 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: The doormen were so, so nice and awesome Cons: We were living on the 9th floor but there was somehow a mouse that made its way through the radiator and got into the apartment”

— 157 EAST 57 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Super was really nice and relatively responsive; doormen were always very nice; great location; felt safe living here and would've stayed if our third roommate didn't move out. Cons: management wasn't very responsive at all but that happens in basically every high rise building; also didn't always feel super comfortable doing my laundry as the store underneath the building also had access Advice to landlord: is there any way to gate off the area so workers at the store don't have access to the laundry space?”
— 157 EAST 57 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 15A Pros: I love the location of the building and the doormen/super/handymen who work here! They are all incredibly kind and go out of their way to make everyone in the building feel really at home here. Plus, they're just super friendly & are always down for a late night chat over pizza. Cons: The management really couldn't be worse -- our unit has had multiple (I think 4 or 5 total?) water leaks over the course of this year, and the management essentially does not care. They will half ass fix it, and then it will leak again, and then they'll do the same thing again. They show no sympathy for the destruction of our property or the inconvenience of having to vacate (& did not pay for a hotel or alternate living arrangements whenever we've had to vacate), and pretty much told us that a water leak from the apartment above (due to a lack of maintenance in that apartment) wasn't their fault and that they wouldn't pay for any damages. If this building had better management, it would be perfect, but the management alone would make me tell anyone who asks that they should definitely not live here. Advice to landlord: Preventative maintenance & not cutting corners when fixing issues would go a long way.”
