Unit 5H Pros: It’s a location is idle for my family Cons: I don’t like a lot about the building. For starters my family has grown and I am able to move into a bigger apartment, but also can’t break my lease to live somewhere a little more comfortable Advice to landlord: Definitely should come and speak with tenants

I visited this building on seven occasions, asked questions and observed the following: Building is infested with roaches and rodents. It is visible in the laundry room filled with mouse droppings and roaches running around. The tenants name list are posted requesting extermination for roaches and rodents. Rodents are due to the uncleanliness of the building. I observed the garbage is always piled up and the basement always has the smell of garbage. A Super is on site but was very harsh when I asked him how often the building undergoes deep cleaning. His English was also very limited. he pool was very dirty and the grounds are in need of serious maintenance and upgrading. Considering the cost to rent, you are not getting nothing that is luxury as advertised. There are nicer buildings in Staten Island for less.

I have been a resident here since 2010. I am actually quite surprised to read the negative comments other people have posted here. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous, including Camille, Kathy, Vadim, Alberto and the rest. For any maintenance/repair work, they are just a phone call away, drop in a note, or just walk-in to their office to let them know. I have never had to wait for months (the way others have claimed) to get anything done. Vadim will fix anything in no time. We have always had plenty of heat during winter, in fact too much heat, we crack our windows open. As for bugs, roaches, rats and bats (really?), others are complaining about....maybe they need to clean up their apartments, and use some Boric Acid! The only crawling critters I see during summer is little centipedes. I see a couple of them in summer and they are harmless. My apartment is next to the Golf Course, so it is to be expected. My neighbours are very quiet and I have no noise problems, besides I have a corner unit. The Laundry Room is fixed recently with new machines and in better working condition now. No need to worry about quarters anymore. My only concern is the rent that increases considerably everytime I renew my lease. Rent increase is not percentage-wise, but according to the Management's pleasure. I am not happy about it, but then again, we are not being held hostage here, if we don't like it, we can always leave. But I chose to stay! Compared to other apartments in NY, this apartment building is nice, clean and well-maintained. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Update to my October 2012 (below) review. Here since 10/2010, and I have to say I'm looking to get out ASAP. I've lived in two units here - one for 2 years and the remainder in another. The designated smoke area in this building is right at the main entrance (hello smokers) - kuddos to whomever thought of that one. If you live in an apartment facing the front good luck on being able to open your windows year round - hello mold, mildew and the like... especially if you live on the first floor right by the entrance. Management does not care. All they want is your money. The building seems to have deteriorated over the years. The laundry room is beginning to look like something out of a horror flick. Maintenance does what they can. Did I mention the paper thin walls? Let's just say my neighbors must be newlyweds...

Looking for an apartment on Staten Island? My suggestion is to keep moving down the block to some far nicer complexes. I would give Silver Lake apartments a negative star review if it were possible. The latest issue that the main elevator was not working for 3 days on a holiday weekend. The building (s) are about 80 % elderly residents and some mothers with young children. The management could care less that anyone unable to navigate stairs was trapped for the whole weekend. On hot days, with moldy air conditioners provided by the building, which also has moss/mold growing below the filthy windows. Did I mention they are starting construction AGAIN, after completing 3 years worth of shoddy repairs. Management is essentially running a glorified slum, lying to residents left and right and continually demanding more money.

Run far away, if you can; after inhaling all the mold/mildew/toxic carpet cleaner this lovely complex has to offer. I will start with the "management", if you want to call them that. Camille is at the helm within the building and is an outright petty liar. The supers will punch holes in your walls that will never be fixed unless you count cardboard as a proper wall. That is the most they will ever do within the building. Your apartment will look great for the first week after move-in, then the roaches, mold and peeling paint start. There are also an abundance of smokers in the the building who make the hallways smell like a dirty bowling alley 24/7. There is also no stairwell to the basement, so you are forced to take the ancient, creaky elevator down to the moldy hellhole where the laundry room awaits. The fun doesn't stop there, make sure you stock up on quarters when the change machine is actually working, because it will not be fixed for at least a week after breaking down. Get your laundry semi-clean in the nasty washer/dryers and plod back to the elevators, hoping it makes it back down from the 7th floor, before you have an asthma attack from the mold issue. I would give this complex 0 stars if it were possible. Look elsewhere.

Boy I wish i had read this site before renting! I wish I had known that Camille couldnt care less about you or any of your problems. She was so nice when we signed the lease! The maintenance team - where do I start? The work is so, so, so bad. The apartment is held together by paint. it looks ok, and then you move in, and the whole apartment...cracks. ceiling, walls, cracks everywhere that were just painted over. The mold/mildew in the bathroom is also just painted over, so that is fun when it starts coming back through a few weeks after you move in. The grout and bathroom sealing is terrible, mold behind that too. calling for help? get prepared for major attitude from Camille. the elevator opens on my floor, to reveal another door you cannot get out of. I have to go up to a higher floor and back down again to get it to open. The walls are so thin, pray you get a quiet neighbor. the ones above me are nightmares. doors to the building either do not close or open properly (try and get that side one open!) Or, they are always propped open. the front door can be opened with any key, just insert anything into the lock and turn, and you are in! Laundry room - The machines do not fill even 25 percent with water, so you will never be able to rinse the soap out of your clothes - enjoy your rashes everywhere! The change machine is filled once a week at best, there is never change there. there are 7 washers, and 5 dryers, and there are usually at least one or two out of order. stay away, you were warned!

(EDITED to remove the second copy of the same review) We have been living in this apartment complex/community for ~1 year now. I live right near the lobby - so on the first floor, close to the elevator, etc. I don't have any noise problems. Major problem we have is that the apartment floors get too cold during the winter (we are right above the boiler room, but still). It became so bad that we could not use the bathroom pipes for a week because the pipes underneath them froze. However, the super(s) fixed them in a day and no issues since then. We did speak to about 10 residents before, during and after moving in. Average duration of those residents range between 4 and 15 years in this building community. Age ranges are from 30-65. As I saw it, the apartment is decently maintained; there are definitely bugs, etc, but I think that's a given since there is open golf course nearby with trees. etc. Hopefully the maintenance, etc gets a little bit better. Management-wise, it is 50-50 in terms of responding in a timely manner. The community is wonderful, pool is great, parking is not bad. Great thing is the bus stopping right in front of the house to go to the ferry (you can even walk there). Silver lake itself is wonderful to walk around, which is a plus. Overall, we give ~8/10 so far for this apartment. Just renewed/extended the lease; I will post an updated review next year. For people who are suspecting - No, I'm not from the management nor am I being paid to write this review.

I have written a review in my life before but for these apartments, i had to write one so people don't get stuck with such a horrible management. The apartments are horrible, dirty and infested with bugs, rats, and bats...yes BATS! The worst part of it all is management, especially the manager Camille, she is straight up nasty, childish and RUDE!! i'm not even kidding she is the RUDEST person walking the planet. Every time i have called management for anything she has been very rude giving me smart answers, literally telling me "so what do you want me to do about it, i dont care"....and thats not the best part....she went on to hang up the phone on me. so childish!!! She's nothing short of a dictator....once the lease is signed...she becomes a NIGHTMARE! PLS PPL STATY AWAY FROM THESE APARTMENTS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY CAMILLE. everyone in the building dislikes her. I fail to understand why she's still employed here. she is definetly out of her professional boundaries.

I lived in this complex for three and half years. I did my best noy to have any maintenance ssues, as I did not feel confortable having anyone in my apartment. When hurricane Irene hit the area, the damage to my apartment was pretty extensive as water was seeping through the wall. I complained to the management and I was told that I was on the list. Waited several months and was told I was still on the list. The mold around the windows got so bad that I was forced to find a new apartment. The walls are thin and you can definetely hear everything that is going on in you next door aparment as if they were right there with you. Definitely a memorable experience that has taught me what to look for when I was looking for a new place to live.
