Unit D54 Pros: My neighbors are mostly nice people. It's lots of young folks, so there can be noise issues. However, I've found that people are receptive if you ask them to quiet down. The neighborhood is nice overall. There's lots of different food places nearby, and I don't feel unsafe walking alone at night as a young woman. I also love that we're so close to two different train stations, and getting into Manhattan is easy. The super and other maintenance people keep the building and courtyard clean. When I've had to reach out to the super--even at odd times--I've been able to get in contact with him. There's also an app to contact maintenance, though I haven't used it myself. I saw some people mention bugs, but I haven't really seen any since moving in. My apartment doesn't seem to get any roaches, though I have seen a couple centipedes since moving in (probably why I don't see any roaches, ha!). Also, this building is pet-friendly, and I wasn't charged a fee for my pet. Cons: I'm not sure if it's just my building, but these walls are way too thin. I can hear my neighbors having conversations at normal levels and even walking. It's normal to hear noise when you live in an apartment, but I shouldn't be able to hear my neighbors' conversations so well. It can be unnerving. There's also no elevator, so you have to walk up multiple flights of steps to get to your apartment. Not a big deal for a healthy young person, but it can be a lot when you're carrying stuff. Important: There is no central air. In the fall they turn on the heat regularly, which can produce some pipe noises. I'm used to NYC apartment radiators making banging and hissing noises--but the noise the pipe in my bathroom makes is so loud that it wakes me up in the mornings. What's funny about that is despite all this raucus, my apartment doesn't get as warm as I would like. Now, you would think that means that the apartment won't get too hot in the summer, right? Wrong. In the summer, your apartment will become a sauna if you're on one of the upper floors like I am. You WILL need an air conditioner and/or blackout curtains to be comfortable. EDIT: I was wrong. Now that it's colder and the heat has been turned on more frequently, the my apartment feels comfortably warm. I love it! Advice to landlord: Expand the laundry room. Why are there only three washing machines and four dryers for 100 units?

Pros: Neighbors are respectful, decent location with a lot of free street parking, affordable rent Cons: - Horrible roach and bug problem. The winter months aren’t that bad but during the summer it’s terrible - I spent most of the summer months staying with friends and family because it felt disgusting being in my own apartment. For roaches, they offer exterminator services via a sign up sheet in the entry way but they don’t follow it. I needed to follow up with the super because my apartment was being skipped over. Even if the exterminators do come all they do is put bait down which just attracts more bugs into the apartment. They need to find where the roaches are coming from and solve the problem there first. Besides the roaches, there were countless other bugs too. I know this because they all got trapped in the sticky traps I lined my floors with. Bugs that I’ve never seen before, the long ones with the long creepy legs, and surprisingly enough lightning bugs - it was bizarre. - Construction on the neighboring building has caused scaffolding to go up in the garbage alley. It’s always dark even in the day time and there are always rats running around. - The heat is unbearable for apartments on the first floor and non-existent for apartments on the 5th floor. I lived on the first floor and would often wake up to my bathroom being 90 degrees if I forgot to crack my window at night, while neighbors on the 5th floor complained about the cold and had to buy heated blankets - So.much.dust. I have no idea where it all came from, but it never stopped. If you’re signing a lease here, make sure you like dusting. Advice to landlord: Fix your roach problem

Unit C12 Pros: - super was responsive - had a nice courtyard - relatively quiet Cons: - could have used a bit more pest control. Especially for back facing rooms in the summer - mail area is a bit small Advice to landlord: - work on better pest control maybe an exterminator every month or so

Pros: Very quiet and good garbage disposal. Cons: Dust on dust on top of more dust. Very dirty. Looks as though it hasn’t been cleaned or scrubbed in 5 years. Very bad roach problem. When I first moved in, the apt was disgusting. I was cleaning for 3 days (tons of dead roaches, roach droppings and dust and dirt) I had to throw away most of my rags because it was that bad. The super barely replies. Been living here for a year and 3 outlets don’t work. Easier to reach the pope than him. Also, packages are constantly getting stolen. Advice to landlord: Please clean your property. I have severe allergies and since living here, I’ve had to visit my Dr. more often because the air quality is lacking. Pest control. Do something about the stolen packages. I’m grateful Amazon is more accommodating than you.
