I moved to Morningside Heights in Nov. 2013. Recently the new Dermot management has greatly turned things around for the better. The new office team is easy to reach and very friendly. Since Jennifer Steighner has joined the team, I have been able to get my apartment/rent problems fixed promptly. Before our super was impossible to get a hold of, but she is making the transition smoother. The new super, Leroy, is friendly and prompt. Trash tends to accumulate in the stairwell that leads to the trashcans, but he tries to make sure that it gets cleaned quickly. Our one complaint is that there is no laundry in building, we had heard there used to be but they took it out for some reason. Other than that the apartment is nice with a few small fixings here and there, as expected. I would recommend this company so long as this team is still in charge.

I moved to a building managed by The Dermot Company last December, and so far my experience has been great for the most part. My Realtor found me the apartment, and all i had to do was to move my stuff in. My apartment is in a prewar building (I guess), but the finishes inside my apartment are modern (New cabinets, new wood floor and stainless steal appliances). It is a great combination because the contrast is really cool. I love Brooklyn, and i love my neighborhood. The apartment is really well located (Transportation, shops & restaurants are within 2 blocks). In the other hand i had issues with noisy neighbors, and minor repairs (a leak from the above apartmentn, and something wrong with one of my radiators). I contacted the super for the repairs, and he fixed the stuff when we made appointment. I asked the super for the issue with the noise, and he instructed me to call the office. I called the office and i spoke with someone (forgot the name), and i was told that they were going to contact the tenants from the noisy apartment. The noise went from often to occasionally. Overall i love my apartment.

Overall, my experience with Dermot has been pretty good. I moved into a Dermot buidling in 2011 on the Upper West Side. The apartment was renovated and nice with a big kitchen. The lighting is not great because I face the backs of other buildings. The staff at the building is OK. They keep the buildings clean and they are friendly. My experience with the office people was always very good. Sometimes I would have to wait on hold for a bit to get through to someone, but they were always friendly and helpful especially Eric who is awesome. The renewals were pretty fair even though rents in the area have been going up a lot past few years. New management took over earlier this year and they are not nearly as good as Dermot. They started a few projects and then stopped working so the hallways are a mess and look terrible and there is scaffolding up that I think is never coming down.

My experience with Dermot Management has been excellent and except for a few paperwork bumps in the beginning, I do not have any communication issues with them. I will say, though, that since I work in the neighborhood of their office, my rent is delivered either by me or by messenger every month. I pay that cost to absolutely ensure that I do not have any paperwork problems with Dermot and it has worked out just fine. Our super is fantastic. He lives on site and sweeps and mops the lobby, steps and surrounding grounds every single day. Our Inwood building is old I understand, from the late 1920s or early 1930s. There is not a crack or a crevice in any wall, ceiling or floor of the lobby. This place is very well maintained. Our street level basement is always clean and, in fact, the super recently freshly painted the floors and walls down there. We have a small laundry facility of 3 washing machines and 4 dryers, all of which have been functioning the 2 years I've been here and we have a big folding table and 3 of those aluminum laundry baskets as are found in big laundromats. Our garbage area is immaculately maintained and it never has an unacceptable odor back there because the garbage is taken care of on a daily basis. The biggest incident I had was a sewage backup into both bathtubs and both toilets after living here just 30 days. It was 3 days before Christmas of 2011. I called the super. He came immediately, assessed, and called a plumber. The plumber team got there at 5:00 pm that day, assessed, came back the next morning at 7:00 am, replaced a 10-foot piece of sewage pipe that affected the whole building, working all day until about 7:00 pm and not leaving until it was done, then cleaned, deodorized and disinfected both of my bathrooms. Didn't leave a spot of dirt anywhere. Water was fully running the next day. A few months ago I had a leak in my en suite bathroom ceiling. It was repaired, ceiling portion replaced and repainted within 72 hours of my initial call to the super. And I did have a waterbug problem for a minute there but I had the super investigate and found they were coming from a hole in a heat pipe in one of the bedrooms. Since he's plugged that up, no issues. Oh, and I did see one mouse in September, sitting on top of my stove. He was as startled to see me as I was to see him! Again, one call to the super and he pulled out the stove, discovered a hole in something, repaired it, looked under the sink, discovered a hole under there, repaired that - and wa-la - no more mouse issue. From the time of complaint to the time of repair - 24-48 hours. Living in old apartment buildings in New York City one expects from time to time to see a mouse or a waterbug. There should not be an invasion though and these issues should be quickly resolved by the super. If they are not, then you have a lazy super. So, overall, today, I would recommend Dermot Management to anyone looking for a nice place to live in a nice neighborhood. The pricing is competitive and the renovations are nicely done. And if there is a concern about paperwork problems, either visit the office once a month or send rent checks to the office by certified mail, return receipt requested.

REAL ESTATE RAPE! Over priced. For SoHa (south harlem) $2,000 a month for a two bedroom where only one of the rooms is actually livable (other room has no heat or light). Heat intermittent, rats all over the lobby--- Call the super million times before a call back and then he never shows up. Kitchen sink water is ice cold. They take advantage of students who need a safe a reasonable place to live. The company should be ashamed to operate with such little integrity. I would rather lease from ------!

Dermot is awful in every way. They never respond to problems tenants have in their apartments -- I have had a nonworking heater in one room for 3 years! Every time a super or handyman comes to look at it they play around with it for a few minutes, then say they'll have to call a specialist. Most of the times I try to call them I get no response. Their negligence and abuse of their management powers is unethical. Cleanliness standards are as subpar as their customer service. Not to mention they try to screw you with late fees and other nonsense that has no basis in reality.
