The apartments in Stuytown are huge compared to the average New York City apartment - not only is there a lot of space, but There's ample storage via closets (in a true 2 bedroom we have 3 hall closets plus one bedroom closet, all sizeable along with a lot of storage space in the cabinets and pantry). AC is a fixed cost which is helpful in both the summer and the winter - in the summer it can be run without fear of a high ConEd bill, and in the winter it's helpful to offseat the steam heat. Stuytown is an urban oasis in the middle of Manhattan and this unit is far enough away from the street to avoid noise but close enough to avoid a 15-20 minute walk to the subway This particular building seems to have a disproportionate amount of issues with ConEd. At least 1-2 times per month we receive notice - often last minute - that we won't have hot water or heat for 12-24 hours due to ConEd repairs. A lot of Stuytown residents have lived here for years and are locked into hundred dollar rent controlled rates. There's a outspoken community of older original residents who are outwardly unhappy with the decision to sell Stuytown to Blackstone, and they're equally unimpressed and outspoken about changes in policy and programming designed to make the apartments appeal to a younger client base - concerts on the Oval, allowing dogs.

Location Iroves the only positive Everything. Backed up drainage system. Barely any heat. Broken screens. No screens on communicable hallway windows. Open windows in hallways during the summer and no screens so bugs can get in. Wasn’t cleaned before moving in.

Location is Gutstanding, and we had an outdoor space (that was albeit horribly maintained) - mice and cockroaches are abundant and not handled (you could literally see hay from their nests coming through the floorboards) - my Apace felt as if it was upwards of 90 degrees (above a restaurant) at all times (in the dead of winter I wanted to use my AC unit) - when we moved in the unit was clearly not cleaned, random stuff in the fridge and in cabinets - dingy windows looking into courtyards so it was dark no matter time of day - the brick walls look as if they're covered in grease ??? - nothing drained, poor circulation, packages got stolen NUMEROUS times, overall it wasn't a pleasant life here - our lease was only for 10 months and at the end of it all our rent was raised $1,200 I wouldn't have minded the rent and overall small-ness if things were properly updated and looked after
