Unit C9 Pros: Affordable, kind neighbors in building, nice location Cons: - Frequent loss of heat/hot water without communication - Unresponsive management - Regular issues with roaches - Poor trash management system (they use the elevator to bring trash down from each floor to the basement so the elevator always smells like trash) - No cell service in apt - Very few outlets (1-2/room) Advice to landlord: Stop letting things pile up and fix things properly! You can only put so many bandaid fixes on a messed up system. And if you ARE going to have so many building-wide issues, don't go days without communicating anything to your tenants!

Pros: Loved the building staff. Cons: Building managers were rarely responsive, particularly during Covid. The building was infested with roaches, much more so than typically expected in an older Brooklyn building. Had to throw out half my furniture when I moved out. Elevators and common areas were filthy. Advice to landlord: Invest in the people that live in the building. Some have been living there for generations and deserve better than this.

Pros: Decent apartments if renovated, good area and price Cons: Unresponsive management company, failed to notify me about a fire that happened close to my apartment that resulted in damages to my unit while I was out of town. Massive carpentry roach issues from shitty renovation material.

Pros: Elevator (but smells nasty); pet-friendly; close to subway Cons: 1. Terrible rodent/roach infestation. In one night we trapped seven mice in our apartment and that didn’t even put a dent in the problem. Also roaches everywhere and exterminator didn’t come regularly. 2. We went more than 6 months without consistent hot water. The hot water wasn’t working at least 3-4 times a week. Wasn’t resolved after multiple calls to the city. 3. The lock to the front door of building was constantly broken/tampered with. 4. Super was friendly but completely inefficient. 5. Packages constantly stolen, within minutes of delivery and even when left directly outside apartment door. 6. There’s been a sharp increase in gun activity on the block/directly outside building over past year. Advice to landlord: Just do better - they don’t listen, aren’t responsive, blatantly deny any complaints (for example when we told them there was a shooting right outside the building they told me “there has never been a shooting on the block, it is very safe” … even though there had been THREE shootings in one year.) Stop treating tenants like trash.

Pros: Staff in the building are usually easy to find and helpful. Cons: Package theft constantly. Caught my elderly neighbor stealing my packages on multiple occasions. I rarely have mail sent here anymore. Roaches all over the building, pest control comes sometimes but it’s not enough to resolve the volume of them. Advice to landlord: The theft and the roaches are the main reason I have to move. If not for that I had planned to stay here for a while.
