Borough Park is the center of Brooklyn's Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish community — 13th Avenue buzzes with kosher bakeries, clothing shops, and Judaica stores. The neighborhood is deeply religious, family-oriented, and largely self-contained, with its own rhythms dictated by Shabbat and holidays.
