“I am a resident at Brookside Gardens apartments. I have been dealing with ants in my apartments for about six months now now the answers are in my living room crawling all on my wall. I was told that it is not a high priority about my situation. They have came to exterminate which I’ve told him that the exterminate has not done anything. and the manager is aware of it and I’m still living like this with my two daughters and I am allergic to the ants.”

“DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!!!!!! Property Manager: Theresa Arnold is a Lier, does under the table work and very unprofessional!!! I am a former resident and also worked for the previous company that sold this property to 5th Avenue. I was told I had to move immediately by the manager and she also lied to me in my face about a balance that I didn’t owe. When I asked her why did she lie she immediately started yelling and being disrespectful!!! What she doesn’t know is I have her on a recording saying I did not owe a balance and this would not be on my report. As a property manager she was very unprofessional and also a LIER!!! How could 5th Avenue hire someone so ------? I will be taking this situation further and have all the documents and recordings I need. As far as employees 5th Avenue needs to do way better. I am currently still in the industry and would NEVER recommend this property with the management it has. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!!!”

“I rode through the property after a friend suggested I look at the apartments. From the front they look very nice but once inside the property it is very dingy. The building needs to be pressure washed and painted again. The stairs and walkways are nasty. The property is disgusting. The back should look as nice as the leasing office. The front and online is very deceiving.”

“Malinda is a sweetheart if u put in a work order r anything tht needs 2 b done she b right up on it with no problem she is a concern lady abt her residents .and any questions tht needs 2 b answer she will answer the with no problem r no altitude i love it here bcuz of her she makes her residents feel comfortable .i don't have a problem with none of the staff in the office .”

“Visited apartments and was greeted by Malinda. She was very sweet and helpful. I was given a tour and the property was very clean and quiet. They assisted me with the application process and I am looking forward to calling these apartments my new home! I was very impressed with how helpful Malinda was through out the whole process.”

“Staff is EXTREMELY unprofessional and not to knowledgeable about leasing industry in general. There have been more than 3 shootings in the community, one being fatal. DO NOT MOVE here if you are looking for a decent community, at best this community is a 1 (I'm being generous). Something immediate needs to be done to these apartments as it's not safe nor a responsible choice to live here. Please be advised on your safety should you move here. Best of luck to the next company takes over this property, essentially a PR nightmare and major safety hazard.”

“All the reviews are absolutely true. I have been here for two weeks it is the worst apartment I've ever lived in. The kids throw trash everywhere and the adults as well. The dumpsters are too small for the amount of apartments over here. They do not complete there work orders I've been waiting for them to finish the repairs for two weeks. The lady above me walks like she's 400 pounds and her kids run and jump late up in the evening. Do not come here please.”

“Do not move here!!!! I have never encountered such a pack of malicious individuals. Never have I been more disgusted. Once a resident here, you become of lesser value. Work orders are never completed. The maintenance doesn't speak english. The employees Will call the police on you before they call to fix the exit gate and pool. These people wear their emotions on their sleeves and forgets how to conduct themselves in a professional manner. No one in the leasing office is experienced to be an leasing agent. No one. This is an housing property and they could care less. They do not understand the process. You will lose your voucher expecting them to do their job. And once completed it's too late. These people have no problem lying to you or on you. They are only there for personal gratification. Fyi the names of these individuals are Cindy:office manager She is unprofessional,rude,inconsiderate,very uneducated in the field and cantankerous. Getting her to understand you without judgement or making you feel inadequate is her specialty. Don't expect her to fix anything. she'll get Maggie to do it. Smh... Maggie has no idea on how to process paperwork. She has lost copies of birth certificates and ssn for my children. She will lie to save herself as well as Michelle, the youngest and most naive. she is the same as Maggie just with an nasty self indulgent attitude. I have lived here many years with no problems until I met those 3. They are not someone you should entrust with responsibility of your home. Home is suppose to be the one place you have peace of mind....Believe that.... The foundation is trash. Even a small child will sound like an adult walking over your head. Your neighbor above you could slam there door and yours too if left open. It always sounds like someone else is walking in my home. The pool is never clean. There's spiders everywhere. And on call security never my vehicle has been broken in twice.... I could keep going but you came here looking for someone like me. Someone who is going to tell the truth... it isn't worth it. Run for the hills.”

“If you want better for yourself don't move here. The inside of the apartments are spacious. But management is letting the apartments go down the buildings haven't been power washed since they came here. Some of the residents are not civilized, they let there kids run around everywhere without adult supervision also letting them take the trash out so trash be on the ground everywhere. The pool is always a problem it's either dirty because they think it's a restroom or it's not clean. If you don't mind swimming in nasty swap green water then dive in ????.The gym it's always something not workin”

“The new management are rude and do not care about the tenants. My vehicle was broken into and my mailbox was stolen when I asked office personnel to change the mailbox lock I was told I would be charged. I have had to call multiple times for maintenance to do repairs and when I asked corporates number I was given a toll free number that connects to the office voicemail. DO NOT MOVE HERE”

“When I moved in I thought wow this is the nicest place I ever been at. I thought they was gonna treat me bad and the people that were here first did. Now the new ones make me feel good and not acting like they better than me. The resident party lady is so nice and funny and the assistant manger helped me find a job and with my resume. The manager always asks how I am and I feel like I belong. This has made me feel like a better person. If they weren't always full I would try to make everyone I know move here.”

“I absolutely love these apartments. I have lived here going on 3 years and I haven't had a problem they couldn't solve. Let me start by saying the maintenance crew are excellent. My air went out one night after business hours, and I called the main line to report it as an emergency because I have little kids in my home and to my surprise I received a knock at the door 10 minutes later. In no time at all my air was up and running. During the summer there are a lot of activities the office host for the kids and senior citizens. They have bingo night and activity night for the children. All through the summer they also provided free lunch for the children. If your trying to lose weight they have a fitness room with work out equipment. If your anything like me and need that extra motivation you can sign up for the work out classes they offer as well. I can honestly say I am counting the months until I can get a home for me and my children but until then I wouldn't mind Brookside a little while longer. They make it comfortable for me to take my time and look for a nice House instead of having to rush and get out . I have lived in apartments before were I just couldn't take it but Brookside is far from it. It really is a nice place.”

“I have lived here for 11 years and seen too many freaking changes around here. But so far so good with these new management people. I usually don't ever get out the apartment too much but now I just feel like I have to go cut it up with the assistant manager at least once a day. I always walk out of there smiling and not like if I be bothering someone.”

“As long as I have been living here this place has been great . The staff is very polite and accommodating and the apartments are very well taken care of and the pool and gym are in great shape .”

“I have lived here for over 8 years now and they changed the name from Alta Gardens to Brookside Gardens when a new owner and company came in. I am very happy with the new workers and always enjoy myself every time I have to come in and talk to them or get their help.”

“I'm a current resident at Alta Gardens the apartments are beautiful on the inside and outside. It used to be a wonderful place to live but this year has been by far the worse year over here ever. Just last night there was an altercation between some people in building 7 and 6 the constables came out twice but everybody scattered . These new residents with some of the older residents had guns, grown people and teenagers where all starting crap at and ungodly hour at 1a.m. I couldn't sleep because all the yelling. I blame the new management because with the old management team none of this happened over here. If the new management team wouldn't be taken all these section 8 people then everything would be ok. Because working people don't have to much time for this crap. The female from building 7 has nothing but guys living there from grown boys to young boys. So it must be a trap apartment, and building 6 I don't know to much and them other than they been over here for a long time.”

“Do NOT move here, beautiful apartments TERRIBLE environment, I have been robbed during the night my vehicle window smashed! Ever since then I'm afraid to sleep without worrying about my apartment being broken into. Managment is very nice, apartments are great considering price but the BASTARDS that make there way in (easily, especially since the back gate near the overflowing trashcan is broke) have ruined this apartment. I am terminating my lease early”

“I am a current resident at Alta Gardens, and I have to say it has been the best place I have ever lived. The staff is amazing! The community is very clean, yes people say things about the trash compactor but management can only do so much. They are trying to keep the community clean as possible but there are also people who don't care and just throw trash anywhere. Now there is another trash compactor that has been place to prevent the over loading but now that compactor is over loading and the back one is empty. People are being lazy and want management to do everything which is not right. And yes there have been crimes but that's everywhere, my car was even broken into my that was my fault because I forgot to lock my doors other then that no other problems. I love it here and I would recommend these apartments.”

“I just moved to Alta Garden this month August 2014.. only to say I haven't been able to fully move inn my apartment. I love the floor plan both rooms have they own bathrooms. It's seem to be quite. Although I've called mgmt to complain about the fur balls on my clothes when I sit on the floor. PET hair is all in the carpet. So as I'm moving some things inn one night I spot bugs on my sheets that I had laid on the floor. So my apartment has BED BUGS.. ugh! But good thing I spotted them before I moved all my furniture in. They came out and exterminate but I haven't been back there since to see if the bed bugs are gone. Its 3 weeks into the month & I haven't been able to stay..smh! I'll be calling mgmt again tomorrow to see what the hold up see on pulling my carpet up. I don't think the apartment is invested but it's still bugs in it. So maybe it's a problem they can be solved or maybe not but something needs to be done..cause that's just not right.”

“This was a very nice property until section 8 was accepted! I have only lived on this property for a few months and someone has gotten shot, there is trash everywhere in the back of the property and it stays there no ever comes near the back to pick any of the trash up. The trash compactor is for trash but instead has piles of trash all around it almost reaching the parking lot. Yesterday evening when going to my apartment i found a soiled diaper lying on the stairs. I hate that i moved into this dump and I have already started looking some place else. I do NOT feel safe here and can't deal with another month of trash everywhere. The apartments sell you a dream when they show you the front of the property that is the only section of the property that is kept halfway decent. I wouldn't refer anyone to this property it is over priced anyways because of what you have to deal with. My neighbor doesn't leave his home without his hand gun that alone should tell you how bad this property is!!! Please don't waste your time viewing this property it is nothing that the management makes it out to be!!!!!”

“Believe what they are saying nice apts. But trash everywhere section 8 takeover. Someone got shot down in front of my building the neighborhood is great but these apartments are the worst thing in this area. One dumpster that always overrun. Trash everywhere”

“After a few months here I can say the experience has not been terrible but it definitely can be improved. The apartment units are nice and well maintained, maintenance responses fast, as well as management to some issues. The building I live in is quiet. There aren't a lot of kids running around nor is there noise or people hanging out too often. The main issue I have is with the trash. It is unbelievable the amount of trash that piles up daily. There isn't necessarily trash on the grounds but near the compactor. It is sickening to see people walk to the compactor and still through trash all over the ground. At times the smell is unreal. It's tough because as a resident that wants to keep the property nice, you can't even walk to the compactor because there is a mountain (literally) of trash. Management has recently made an effort to control the problem but I am not sure how well it will work.”

“The apartments overall are nice, its just these unruly section 8 individuals that are here that makes the environment bad. They hang out all times of night. They sit out on the stairway and you Damn near gotta make them move so that you can get to your own resident that you work for and pay full rent. Today there was an event held for the kids and of course we had unruly individuals that were there causing chaos over nothing in the presence of the kids. This individual went as far as asking someone to take it to the streets. Now who does this in the presence of their own kids? My point exYactly.... Just ------!”

“I lived at Alta Gardens for 1 yr while my husband was between jobs. The apt was spacious and I loved the garden tubs in the bathrooms. However, my bldg was directly across from the one and only dumpster for the entire complex and it was constantly over filled or the compactor was broken. This created a breeding ground for roaches and rats could be seen in the area at night. In the one year we lived there we were without water at least 4 times! The msg you would get on the office VM was that it was out of their control due to local construction. Water is included in your rent so I would expect a discount for those days we were inconvenienced and had to stay at a hotel just to be able to shower. NO SUCH LUCK!Getting a hold of management or maintenance after hours was often a problem. Once there was a fire on the 3rd floor in my complex on a holiday weekend and I was concerned because I didn't know if I should use any electrical appliances because the water the fire dept used to put out the fire was running down the walls in my neighbors apt. I called several times before the only maint. man on duty called me back and he said he couldn't reach management and was dealing with the aftermath of the fire by HIMSELF! I complained to Lincoln Property about that incident and never received a call back.For the most part everyone kept to themselves and I didn't really have any issues with noise. There were a few cars broken in to while we lived there, but that happens everywhere. Constables patrol the grounds occasionally. Safety did become a concern after my downstairs neighbor was robbed during the day when her daughter was home (she hid in the closet) and the apts never made any mention of it. Our lease was up the next month and we were glad to get out!”

“I have been at this complex for about 6 months. I really like my apartment and floor plan, but I am not sure that it's safe. Managment gave me such a hard time during the application process that I believed it was going to be a great choice. Recently it seems the a lot of undesirables are here. You see boys walking during the night, they are breaking into vehicles like crazy. You get out of your vehicle and they are hollering at you. I am afraid to come in late, and for my daughter to come in late as well. I pay $885 in rent and I have to look at trash all over the ground by the dumpster and the grounds keepers never sweep the trash from the walkways and management dont seem to take things serious. We don't even have the option of using the drop box anymore due to some thieves gaining access to the box. They have made no attempt to work with their tenants. I even think they have started taking housing! But, I guess that's easy money huh? I am so ready to move out so that I don't have to listen for every little noise”

“This apartment complex is a mess. The only good thing is that its quiet at night but thats when the thieves come out. The kids are always running up and down the stairs making too much noise. Sometimes you can hear the neighbors through the wall. Do not stay here. I have had several occassions were the water stopped running for two days and the power goes out all night. I'm moving out asap. Do not waste your money staying here. There are plenty of apartments that are worth paying your money too. They have pretty flowers when you turn into the apartments. lol.”

“I lived here and for the first 2 months that I was there, I encountered mice on a regular basis! I literally caught 10 plus mice in the 1st 2 weeks! The people that live upstairs from me are loud as all hell and my lights flash and dim in and out when they are playing soccer. In all I love the layout and amenities, but I can never use the laundry or weight room because the remote NEVER works! Then when I went to go wash a damn possum was looking right at me and I was too afraid to get out the car! The parking SUCKS! I am about to move soon, and I cant wait. I moved from a townhouse to an apartment and I dont like noise, because Im a respectable neighbor and I know my kids like to play so out of respect and consideration I always pick ground floors and always end up under the loudest damn neighbors. I hope if I move into another apartment I will have quieter neighbors. Did I mention the trash that at the 1 compacter and the dogs that eat through it?”

“I just fill out an application for these apartments i read the reviews and looked over all the negative things that they were saying, because i viewed the apartments and they were nice and you just can't believe what everyone say. But i was trying to reach the manager to check the status of my application and the f@#$% phone is off like where they do this at......this is a place of business WOW...not too sure i'm headed to pick up my deposit and continue my search!!!”

“The people in the office are prejudice. When they first open it was was great! They had activities for the kids, but that all stopped. After all them new people came, the apartments crashed. You would get a violation for small things. They don't even greet you, poor service. Never move here, if you have kids. They don't want them outside or playing at the park. Everyone has moved because of the manager sucks and all them in the office. Its best if you move somewhere family oriented, because they hate kids playing. They don't do anymore activites and its not a great community. The crime rate here is high, my house got broken into and 4 other residents on the same day. It is not safe here people. Please don't move here, this comunity is not safe and the office people are horrible! Alta Gardens is not safe!”

“The interior of these apartments are really nice; however, do not let that fool you! I moved there one year after they were built and I have seen many many good, honest, hard working people move in then out really fast. WARNING: DO NOT PUT RIMS ON YOUR VEHICLE because when you come out, they will definitely be gone. NO EXAGGRATION. What a waste of nice apartments .The office has a big turn around rate. Every time you look up there is someone new and as of right now there is no manager and has not been for last two month. One of the leasing ladies said they should one in January. I really want to move but am unable to find a nice, reasonable priced, three bedroom for me and my teenage son and teenage daughter. Sometimes I m scared that when I come home, my door would have been kicked in.”

“These apartments are a mess from the one trash dumpster! To the towing of your car for being just a little out of space, to the lack of management support, to the breaking in and drug dealers!!! My last straw is now now, they are exspecting us to pay half of the rent from September because our money orders were stolen out of there drop box!! Even though I was able to show them proof that I payed my rent for that month they are threating to evict me and others if we don't pay half the rent because they never got there money back from the issue... Somehow the thieves were able to cash the money orders and now this has become our problem, even though as tenants we did our part the management has demanded that we pay half the rent just weeks from Christmas they put a note on our doors!!! These apartments are so ------!!! If you have children you won't even want them to go outside... Please for your safety don't move over here!!!”

“OMG!!! When I first moved to Alta Gardens it was very clean and nice. I was so prond to say I lived there. Nnow it is a hot mess. They have Rats 30-100 playing and eating by the trash can. They even ttry to attack you if you run and try to empty your trash. The stair are felty with stain and food. I was so shocked to hear that rent has increased. I am so ready to move.”

“ALTA GARDENS LOOK GOOD ON THE OUTSIDE BUT ARE TERRIBLE ON THE INSIDE I RECOMMEND TO WHOMEVER TO KEEP LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE BEFORE SIGNING A YEAR LEASE AND CAN'T GET OUT OF IT I LIVED THERE FOR 3 YEARS AND YEAH WHEN I FIRST MOVED IN THEY WERE NEW NO PROBLEM BUT OVER THE COURSE OF 3 YEARS EVERYTHING WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE I WAS RECENTLY ASKED TO VACATE CAUSE MY TEENAGE SON WAS DRIVING A CAR AROUND THE APARTMENTS WAS STOP BY THERE SECURITY GUARDS THAT THEY HAVE PATROLLING THE APARTMENTS WHICH IS THE HARRIS COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT WHO ARRESTED MY SON FOR NO REASON SO I HAD TO MOVE OUT BUT THEY DID ME A FAVOR CAUSE MY LEASE WAS UP AND I NO LONGER WANTED TO LIVE WITH THE RATS,TRASH ,& HARASSMENT BY THE HARRIS COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT BECAUSE YOU WILL BE HARASSED THE TENANTS AND VISITORS THEY WILL HAVE LIGHTS FLASHING IN YOUR FACE WHEN YOU PULL UP FOR NO REASON YOU ARE BASICALLY TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE CAR BRAKE INS, MURDERS, APARTMENTS BROKE IN AND ALL OF THE ABOVE INSTEAD OF THE SECURITY REALLY DOING THERE JOBS AND FINDING THE CRIMINALS THEY HARASS 15 YEAR OLD'S AND THE TENANTS THAT LIVE THERE AND PAY RENT EVERY MONTH AND MANAGEMENT SUCK THEY DON'T CARE SO THIS IS A WARNING RUN THE OTHER WAY REMEMBER I WAS THERE FOR 3 YEARS AND I'M NOT MAKING ANY OF THIS UP DO TO THE FACT I HAD TO MOVE ITS REALLY THE TRUTH I LIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW AND LOVE IT I NO LONGER HAVE TO COME HOME AND BE HARASSED BY THE SHERIFF'S I DON'T HAVE TO SEE 100 RATS WHEN I PULL UP I DON'T HAVE TO BE SCARED TO GO TO SLEEP ANYMORE BECAUSE I'M AFRAID OF SOMEONE BREAKING INTO MY APARTMENT I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY IF MY CAR IS GOING TO BE NEXT TO GET BROKE INTO AND I DON'T HAVE TO SEE TRASH ALL THROUGH THE COMPLEX EVERYDAY SO JUST REMEMBER TO RUN THE OTHER WAY AND THIS IS FOR MANAGEMENT CHRIS & SHUNTE BEFORE YOU TRY TO SERVE SOMEONE A VACATE NOTICE PLEASE MAKE SURE ITS TO AND ADULT OR TO SOMEONE WHO'S 16 YEARS OR OVER NOT A SIX YEAR OLD CHILD AND THANKS FOR DOING ME A FAVOR AND CLEANING UP THE MESS I LEFT BEHIND FOR YOU GUYS HAVE A GREAT DAY !!!!!!!!!”

“I must say I have never in my life seen or experienced the things I have since I've lived at Alta Gardens. I moved into the complex when things were new and quiet. Soon after, things turned for the worse. I should have known when the old lady downstairs from me moved out, that was a sign to pack my bags as well. I gave the apartments the benefit of the doubt and decided to stay. My apartment has been broken into with the theives stealing my sofa, love seat, and tv, a few months prior, my boyfriends 22 inch rims and tires were stolen right there in the complex with his car left sitting on 4 jacks, prior to that event, they broke in his car and stole his audio. One evening while returning home, and officer was checking vehichles to see where stolen items had come from because he apprehended some theives. He said he wouldn't want his worse enemy to live here. Soon after, there was a murder, more stolen rims, stolen vehicles, more break in, huge RATS, thrash left unattended, poor maintenance, paper thin walls, people working on their vehicles in the parking lot, FECES SMEARED ON THE WALLS NEAR THE POOL AREA, this place is like a zoo. My lease is up in July and I will be moving away from people who don't know how to appreciate anything because they've never been exposed to a better lifestyle. They keep the ------ mentality they have and bring down their environment.”

“Alta Gardens are a great place to live, spacious, great price and convienient! Of course there is some crime but what area doesnt have any crime? There has been a few burglaries, but the staff is very good at alerting residents of everything. Mr.Robert who is the best maintenance guy, fixes things on time and is pleasant. As for some residents, they're the problem! They send there children to drop the trash off and of course they just leave the trash wherever. Mr.Robert work hard to remove trash from the property everyday! Its quiet at night but there are alot of people who roomate here and are of a younger generation and have drama every now and then but you complain enough to the staff and they will evict trouble makers, believe b/c i've had a couple of people evicted. The staff is professional and try hard to remedy problems. There are activities weekly for children, resident mtgs monthly, self defense classes, personal trainers who come out 3days a week to train residents. A few residents' guests constantly break the gate late night to get in, but two wks tops is how long it takes to get the gate fixed. I personally never had any issues here.”

“I would like to start off by saying that when I first moved here I should have saw a sigh then that you could not view the apartment and that you had to wait until the apartment was ready to move in. When I moved in I have been scared as a young black woman the things that were happening around the community. The first month there was a shooting in the building nest to me and one guy got shot and the other guy was shot and killed. What woke me was the police cars that were in front of my window flashing there lights and yellow tape everywhere. A letter was sent out at that time and it is always that person didn't live here, but it happened here. The gates or not secured at all. People break the gated and come in the back all the time. Trash is out awful and when they put the trash on the cars the trash falls down and they leave it there for everyone to run right over it. The guy who lives above me walks 24/7 and I have walked up there and spoke to him and then I went to the office and the officers went to the door to talk to him. After that my car was scratched and then I saw the guy who lived above me outside coming home from work and he just smiled. I left him along because he kept walking and walking. I have had several azures there and in the six month or so I have been in the hospital and did not know what was going on. I also suffer for anxiety as well and on meds for both. This is not healthy for me and the health of my daughter who is pregnant for fear of our lives. My daughter, when she comes she has to call me to the front door because she is pregnant and I have to get out the bed to let her in and she has to fun to the door and look it. She and her friends have been chased to her door by some guys that live in building 10 and the first thing that comes out the managers CHRIS mouth was you know you are not to come thru the back gate. Well at that point I didn t think that was important at the time. No one should be chased to their apartment because we want talk to know one. You don t know who is friendly here and you don t want to get close to anyone because you can t trust anyone. Well it is constantly open and broke all the time she did it one time and the whole complex does it. I have never did it and I told my daughter to go around and not be like these others around here that never get caught The trash compactor is ridiculous and would cause rats and rodents to the property. I pay $678.00 per month but for my safety I would pay more. I I am just scared here for me and my children and cars are being broken into and doors kicked in. There has been several knocking on my door and Officer Mike told me that he think he got the people that was doing it. He also attempted to go up stairs to talk to the people for all the walking. I should not have to turn my TV up just to block the stomping. I have a sheet up in front of my window because you feel that someone is looking into window. I have talked to several people around the complex and the things that I heard or sad. Friday January 9, 2009 a guy driving a old grey car was yelling at me when I got out of my car around 8:00pm saying hey baby and I rushed to my apartment with bags from the store. Wednesday January 7th a guy approached me and asked me about my car and I asked why, he said that he heard some guys talking about it.
